One more thing, I'm really fed up of how the MSM ( more TV tbh) is reporting what's going on. Neutrality and impartiality is NOT appropriate when reporting on fascism IMO...

amispartacus · 02/02/2017 17:30

Will Trump attend every return of a US soldier killed abroad?

He could be very very busy.

The checks and balances don't work when representatives vote out of spite, to protect special interests or for revenge instead of thinking about the people they serve.

Betsy de Vos making it through committee is an example of this. They know she's terrible but enjoy sticking their fingers in Democrats' eyes too much to show integrity.

I guess as long as the deceased soldier isn't Muslim or a bit dark. He probably will block repariation.

I hope the families tell him to fuck off with his insincere self serving bullshit.

amispartacus · 02/02/2017 17:36

From Sydney

Adding insult to injury, the leak was swiftly reinforced by a hostile statement from the US president, in the form of his tweet that he's still considering the "dumb deal" with Australia on refugees.

Says Professor Curran: "I'm not sure the Trump administration gives a crap about the Australian alliance."

And this is the nub of it. An alliance, regardless of the formalities, is a dead letter unless it is infused with political will. Can Australia trust its great and powerful friend?

Or, as James Curran puts it: "If you have this sort of tension this early in the life of the administration over relatively small beer, what will happen in the event of a major crisis?"

One of his big aims is to isolate us. Separate us from the rest of the world and those who would fight with us, in the same way an abusive parent locks a child in a closet. Once we're isolated (and no one wants to come to our defense) it will begin. The wholesale destruction of our lands/environment/natural resources by big oil and lumber, the 'chattelization' of the middle and lower classes by the upper class, and the ruin of our infrastructure. Once that's done and Trump and his rich cronies have sucked us dry they will move on, like a plague of locusts. Who will be next?

Heute USA, morgen die welt.

I love JK Rowling's comments. I wonder does she ever drop into MN?

I was beginning to think this has parallels to Voldamort.

Love the name Twitler Grin

BigBadgers · 02/02/2017 17:56

acrossthepond. I have thought since the election campaign that the tactics used by the Trump posse are very similar to those used by abusers. Reading threads on the relationship boards the arguments and gaslighting and general complete unreasonableness mirrors those of the abusive men. I have also often thought the desperate belief that he would change when he got into power, he would respond to reason, that he cares about anyone but himself is the thought process of a beaten down and abused partner who cannot accept the terrible mistake they made in trusting this person.

Destinysdaughter · 02/02/2017 17:59

Haha that Downfall video is brilliant!!!!! Grin

Destinysdaughter · 02/02/2017 18:01

Bigbadgers yes they are very similar indeed...

AcrossthePond55 · 02/02/2017 18:07

Never, merry, never ever ever. All news media and rational public persons and scholars are saying this is 'unprecedented'.

Looking back, and I'm NOT a historian, I'd say perhaps the closest one might come to this could possibly be Lincoln's declaration of martial law just after the beginning of the Civil War, but that was to try to save the Union. It was approved by Congress two years later, in the midst of the War. I'm sure to many at that time it probably appeared 'Trumpian'. But no President at ANY time has gone out of his way to antagonize parts of the citizenry, not to mention other foreign leaders.

I've disagreed with many Presidents before, the Bushes and Reagan come to mind. But NEVER have I felt a President has so disrespected 'We the People' like Trump has. And never have I seen a President disrespect the leaders of our allies, let alone 'enemies'. Even Reagan referred to the USSR leader as MR Gorbachev when he said 'tear down this wall'.
