Iranian leaders dismiss Washington’s warning as “slogans” and “hollow ranting”

Transcript of Trump's speech for Black History Month

Can I get more gobsmacked. Each time I think No. Then along comes something else. How does he make every single speech about him? How can he talk about a former slave/slave abolitionist who died 130 years ago, as if he was alive? (i.e. he doesn't know)

The last three presidents have used the occasion to celebrate black culture, artists, invited guests from civil rights groups... yet DT used the occasion to talk about the MLK bust going missing, fake news, CNN, lovely Fox News, nice people who are nice to him, beautiful.

All crap and a total embarrassment.
I wonder if he is getting ill or something, he was so bad during campaigning but nothing like this.

It's just pathetic verbal diarrhoea of an ageing narcissist.

Beats me, original. I guess that people should have thought that through before voting him in?

What worries me about the end of the world, is that those most likely to survive are the armed, right wing religious nuts. Grin
I don't want them to be responsible for rebuilding civilisation and repopulating the earth!
Maybe we need more liberal preppers....
(sort of joking, sort of not, I'm not sure anymore)

cozietoesie · 02/02/2017 16:37

I should, perhaps, mention that Palin is almost Mike Pence's favourite person. Smile

Lweji · 02/02/2017 16:38

"you read all about dr. Martin Luther King when somebody said I took..."

To an audience of black people around the table. And even to an US audience.
Yes, because that's the first and the most anyone ever read about MLK. Sure.

merrymouse · 02/02/2017 16:38

Australia “takes advantage of us.” How so?

I don't know much about Australian foreign relations, but it strikes me that Australia, despite being pretty well protected by water and geography has often fought with the US. Many Australians (not apparently suffering from 'heel spurs) died in Vietnam.

In an uncertain world, Australia sounds like the kind of friend the US might want to keep.

Roussette · 02/02/2017 16:38

I don't get it either. You couldn't get Joe Bloggs voted in as PM here because he's rich could you? Without coming up through the ranks in some way or another.

Interested in the 'externalisation' theory, sounds so much him doesn't it..

All over twitter it's references to "President Bannon". I think as a pp said.. that will absolutely enrage him. We should keep doing it more and more until he explodes in a fat orange mess.

cozietoesie · 02/02/2017 16:39

No need, I reckon. Smile

Don't worry, the people who survived the last ice age were probably right wing survival nuts. In a few generations I'm sure it works it's way out.

BigBadgers · 02/02/2017 16:44

All this rewriting of the rules by the GOP, how is that democratic? Or even vaguely civilised? It's pure bully tactics. It's worrying because it appears increasingly evident that now they have their feet under the table as a majority they have no intention of ever relinquishing their hold on power. Bye bye democracy, hello one party state. I would say many are self serving enough to ride in the Donald's tumultuous wake, as he bulldozes his way through reason and enlightenment back to the dark ages, and once they feel consolidated enough they will get rid. Whether or not they will manage to dislodge Bannon is another matter.

FarAwayHills · 02/02/2017 16:49

Hilarious that Iran are being dismissive of his rantings. He will not like that one little bit.

ZebraOwl · 02/02/2017 17:04

Gorsuch's "Fascism Forever Club" at school? Twitter informs me that the Heil has managed a new level of [C21] Nazi!apologism by saying it was a way of rebelling against the left-wing views of his teachers. Yes, the Jesuits, those well-known liberals. Practically Communists. The name just demonstrates his "sense of mischief", you see.

AngryEnvyAngry

That is NOT an envious face in the middle there, mes amies.

I know I know I KNOW that the Heil is a filthy fascist rag unfit for lining litter trays with, but I'd somehow, bizarrely, hoped that this time around they might not go Full Nazi. That they'd have a quick flick through their own archives, see that actually Hitler turned out to be not quite the chap they thought, and [unintentionally] cheerleading for genocide doesn't really look good, so perhaps better to not big up the would-be founders of a fecking fourth Reich. (I'm not giving them a capital letter for fourth. Out of SPITE. But obviously Reich has to have one, because German Noun. Some rules are not made to be broken.)

Mischief. Mischief! How in the name of all that is good & holy can ANYONE characterise starting a pro-fascist club as "mischief"?! Unless they have very little English, lost their place in the dictionary, and in desperation & panic went for that when they went monstrous. (See similarly, "they have neurological issues causing severe confusion/muddling of words". Only other thing I can think of causing/explaining it would be being the fictional character who brings the most crashingly inappropriate malapropisms...)

I suppose Trump's father was only at that KKK rally as a Boyish Prank, too. And getting arrested there was... well, Boys Being Boys, presumably?

When I went to Berlin at the end of Y12 with what was left of my AS-Level German class our Lone Boy & I were looking at the pictures of Nazi book burnings in the Deutsche Dom when an elderly man approached us & started telling us about what he'd seen. He'd been at book burnings, he'd been made to join the HJ... and he was really distressed just by seeing the pictures. And LB kept using du instead of Sie when addressing the poor man so I had to keep elbowing him & I have EXCEPTIONALLY pointy elbows so he got a bit huffy until I pointed out that not only was he being frantically rude Full Stop it might look like he was being Deliberately And Pointedly Rude in the belief the poor old man was a Nazi. But these IDIOTS who seem to think Fascism Is Fun... I can just see that scared-looking old man, almost-crying as he described being forced to watch books being burned as a small boy because he & his mother took a wrong turn on the way home & to walk away would have made them look suspicious. And he was so desperate, so earnest in that "it mustn't ever happen again" - is it really awful that I sort of hope he's not lived to see this? A curator told me he was a frequent visitor & he'd try to talk to visiting teenagers when he could (if they were amenable, they never had any complaints, only people like me coming to say "um, there's an elderly man down there who seems a wee bit upset, I've left him sitting by X & he said he'll be ok, but I thought you should know"). Pretty brave of him in lots of ways - but turns out he was absolutely right to be so constantly vigilant.

Sorry, that was just a huge burble. Am just angry & sad & frustrated. (And still!No-Ballet-For-Zebra. I couldn't even make it up to the hospital today to return the monitor, nor get someone else to. I know they have enough a day delay won't matter, but still feel bad. What got me was that when I rang they were surprised I was letting them know. And checked I meant yesterday-Thursday, not a week+ ago. I actually dread to think how many monitors must Go Walkies for extended periods of time Sad)

People who are different do NOT pose a threat to people - gay marriage and gay rights do not impinge on most people's day to day lives. Life goes on.

But for some reason. some people seem to think that people who are different to them DO pose a threat and deserve to have their rights squashed.

That's scary. People who are different are just trying to get on with their lives in a world that is beginning to accept them. The leader of the 'free' world seems hell bent on taking away those rights - in what way is that a good thing?

Went out for a.few hours today and came back to check in on this.thread. So many emotions! Pure fucking rage, hopelessness but slightly heartened by things like so many big companies deciding not to advertise with Breibart news. There are some big differences between now and the 1930s, one is the fact we have social media and can communicate directly with each other, also, the.world is so much more inter connected than it.was, so it's a lot harder ( hopefully) to generate hate between nations if we personally know pp from different nationalities as we live, work or study alongside them.

I hope these things will make a difference...

MsHooliesCardigan · 02/02/2017 17:24

I just don't get how He can just unilaterally change rules he doesn't like. Where are all the much talked of checks and balances? I thought that the American political system was set up in the way it is precisely to stop this sort of thing happening?

amispartacus · 02/02/2017 17:25

And that's why people stand up for others who are different - because looking away and doing nothing because you are not 'different' has been shown through history to have effects.

The USA is turning its back on a lot of people. The UK needs to think very carefully about decisions it makes.
