I'm relatively new here. Are we allowed to mention a Portuguese Supreme Court ruling today about a missing British child in Praia da Luz.

Don't want to break any rules. Thanks.

New but wanted to start a goady thread anyway when you know full well what the answer to your question would be.

MycatsaPirate · 31/01/2017 20:34

I think they had appealed a court decision which hadn't gone in their favour over the book and lost again.

Originally they had sued for monies and the Court found in their favour, then he appealed and won and there was a whip round for his court costs. Then they appealed and lost again. I think.

It's hard to keep up to be honest, they seem to spend a lot of time suing people.

Fuzzy,

Thanks again.

Disingenuous much?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 31/01/2017 20:37

It always gets messy on a MM thread because armchair detectives inevitably pop up talking bollocks.

QueenMortificado · 31/01/2017 20:38

These threads never go well

Peregrina · 31/01/2017 20:38

So this is a UK court? Is it written up in a newspaper somewhere?

meltownmary · 31/01/2017 20:39

I just wondered what the rules were.

Then I stated the facts nothing else.

If pulled or deleted thread that's ok.

I was just reporting factual news on this.

TheFirstMrsDV · 31/01/2017 20:48

Of course you are allowed to talk about it.
But people can't ever keep it on a sensible level.
They always go totally over the top and then start shouting 'conspiracy' when yet another thread gets pulled.

FWIW I am not convinced you are a.new or b.don't know the answer to your question.

Why on earth would you ask it?

meltownmary · 31/01/2017 20:55

@The First,

Check out my posting history so. I was not around here when this was at its peak, so just checking. No conspiracies, no worries.

Many websites have a policy on this case for various reasons.

So, I didn't know about here, it being so open and fucking and swearing and so all the rest of it!

But I get the message anyway. Thank you.

A UK court asking MN to hand over the contact details of 2 posters who had posted something about a surgeon. Presumably so he can sue them personally for libel.

Would these people have got banned by MN anyway? BTW I think he's a cardiologist rather than a surgeon.

CockacidalManiac · 31/01/2017 21:02

They're very litigious.

mycatwantstokillme1 · 31/01/2017 21:03

I'm also relatively new and wondered why threads regarding this case aren't allowed. Is it the same with Shannon Matthews/Charlene Downes and others? If not I don't really understand it!

Tartyflette · 31/01/2017 21:04

I thought it was a plastic surgeon.

mycatwantstokillme1 · 31/01/2017 21:05

Just seen your post TheFirstMrs DV ok now I see. As I've only been on here for about a year I'd never seen a thread relating to the case so didn't know they got so heated.

Costacoffeeplease · 31/01/2017 21:05

Sunday was a different doctor, not related to the McCanns at all

IamSwitzerland · 31/01/2017 21:06

"Many websites have a policy on this case for various reasons."

So you do this a lot OP?

LouMumsnet · 31/01/2017 21:06

Thanks to those who brought this thread to our attention. To clarify, we allow folk to discuss the McCann case in general on here, but we'd like to remind everyone firstly of our talk guidelines and also that we are here to make parents lives easier, so we will delete any posts which we feel are not in the spirit of the site.

If we feel the thread is beyond the pale, or if we have to delete so many posts that it's full of holes, then we will have to consider deleting the thread. So we'd really appreciate it if everyone could bear this in mind when posting. If there's anything you think we should see, please do report it.

Can we also please remind all that the McCanns are a family who've lost a child. We'd appreciate it if people would avoid speculating about what may or may not have happened and the possible culpability of the parents. We would hope we can all agree that we wouldn't wish these circumstances on anyone.

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 31/01/2017 21:06

Why is there a MNHQ have commented on this thread message when there doesn't appear to be any such comment?

birdybirdywoofwoof · 31/01/2017 21:06

The threads are allowed, but in a few minutes the nutters will arrive full of their bitter nutty theories.

NarkyMcDinkyChops · 31/01/2017 21:07

Weird, it arrived as a x post.

meltownmary · 31/01/2017 21:07

Switzerland.

Do what?
