I don't understand why the president would have to create an emergency ban on all Syrians entering the US, even if they are dentists who have lived most of their lives in Surbiton, but he talks about 'pushing' the NRA to allow him to pass legislation to stop selling guns to people in the US who are actually on the watch list.

Genuine question - do the NRA have democratic power beyond being a lobbying group?

It sounds as though people aren't so much locking their doors against terrorists as trapping themselves in the panic room with the armed terrorists.

Not technically. But they are very very powerful. It's pretty much a "what we want, we get" situation for the most part. The US is very big on "right to bear arms."

@wokeuplikethis that is an interesting hypothesis. I honestly thought it was an interesting possible link it was a reputable source - maybe not peer reviewed - but a reputable source all the same. If you have other information alternative facts, post truthism, fair enough.

If it was misinformation then I apologise as there has been an awful lot of information flying around the internet and fact checking is becoming harder based on the volume.

Maybe I should just go back to lurking.

CNN on Gorsuch. Religiously conservative - backed the rights of religiously-owned companies to opt out of providing contraception as part of company health care (one of the over-rides Obama put in place - though apparently he had to be pushed to do it...) Contraception, not abortion! That's how illiberal this guy is. He interprets freedom of religion to mean freedom to impose your religious beliefs on others (specifically your employees).

space83, I find it quite difficult to keep track of what is real and not at the moment! There's so much flying around, and things move so fast. Plus, often what seems like wild conjecture initially can later turn out to be true.

I do really like that on this thread people challenge misinformation, because otherwise it can spread so fast and undermine genuine issues. Don't feel bad though - I've seen that Rosnet rumour posted elsewhere so you're not the only who thought it seemed credible.
