I'd have thought that his profile is getting a little too high for his own comfort in the current climate.

((Sorry - and that last post should have referred to CWHS and not COS.)

@matthewamiller @KatCapps One Republican has sent request to Chair to put him back before Congress to question specially about this. Said can't confirm until then

People are rumbling that they want Sessions questioned about that clip of Sally Yates and him questioning her about whether or not she would disobey a president if he instructed her to do something against the constitution. At the time, of course, when she said that yes, she would disobey the president as her job is to obey the constitution, not the president. And that, of course, was the correct answer.

The Senate is trying to use it as a back door to fix this Yates thing.

GingerIvy · 31/01/2017 17:47

Or at the very least a way to push Sessions out.

He thinks Holocaust survivors should shut up about it too...

Nic Dakin (Scunthorpe) (Lab)
Holocaust survivors have said that this reminds them of the 1930s, so is this a time for appeasement or a time for standing up for British values?

Boris Johnson
I think that it is time for perspective and time to stop demeaning the holocaust.

(Taken from Hansard, of course.)

GingerIvy · 31/01/2017 17:57

Zebra I find Boris Johnson's continual wittering on about "stop demeaning the holocaust" an attempt to shut down any dissent and to silence any anti-Trump sentiment. Clearly he's not looked out the window, as nobody is listening. The people that are relatives of those who died in the Holocaust seem to be the most vocal about this - so obviously THEY don't feel that comparing it is demeaning. They feel it is CRUCIAL!

Jeff Sessions is so dangerous that a Republican-controlled Senate rejected his nomination to a federal judgeship 30 years ago.

The talk about getting past paywalls has made me think.

Maybe we could think about suggesting that we each subscribe to one paper/buy a physical paper as well? And that we don't advise each other how to get past paywalls?

For the first time in years I'm not resenting the TV licence and not wishing to cancel the weekend newspapers.... DH will be delighted!

lingle · 31/01/2017 18:00

"We have to be better than them. This is too important.!"

I think that is right.

No shit, Ginger! You think he's going to hand 'the winner' a rose or point to the others and say 'You're fired!'. He is turning this country into a fucking side-show!

Comparisons to Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre are a bit misguided, in that Nixon at least had a general idea of what the hell he was doing.

Yeah, but remember, Trump is for non-intervention, no more overseas adventures, no US lives at risk.

Or did I misunderstand his pitch? (Admittedly, I mostly heard this shit via the busy little Trump bees on MN.)

BigBadgers · 31/01/2017 18:13

Do about think trump is going to make the supreme court favourites do a special task before he chooses which one. Maybe come up with a way to remove abortion rights while claiming it is to promote women's rights. Hmm

originalmavis · 31/01/2017 18:15

But seriously, does anyone know if they can get rid of this clown before he starts ww3 by either mistaking the nuclear launch button for a game show buzzer, or deciding to blow up Iran in an attempt to make everyone 'look over THERE!!!' so that they aren't looking at him.

I'm not joking. Either scenario seems likely.

I'm sorry Boris, but we talk about WW2 and the holocaust because that is our reference point in western Europe. That was supposed to be the low point. The EU and NATO came out of the wreckage of Europe. Now we see that being intentionally pulled apart by the likes of Bannon, and we aren't supposed to mention the holocaust?

birdybirdywoofwoof · 31/01/2017 18:28

cozietoesie · 31/01/2017 18:31

He treads dangerous ground.

The United States is a collection of States loosely bound - some more loosely than others - by the President and the Constitution. If he rides roughshod over the Constitution, there are a number of states, many with established separatist movements, who might then feel that the advantages of separation outweigh the disadvantages.

And Texas? Well. Texas is a law unto itself.

I can only hope that he doesn't take the rest of the world down with him.
