Nazi jibes at Donald Trump demean the Holocaust, says Boris Johnson www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/01/30/nazi-jibes-donald-trump-demean-holocaust-says-boris-johnson/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

I was very angry at Johnson when he said that. No wonder people minimise the risk until all hell breaks loose.

Ratbagcatbag · 30/01/2017 22:22

Finally at the end and place marking.

Ginger - thanks so much for the tweets! Twitter scares me, I can't figure it out so I appreciate them all being copied in here.

Lweji Mention health care free at POS for everyone, government organised, and many people in the US run screaming socialism. I don't see it ever happening. Not to mention that insurance and pharmaceuticals is far too big a business to ever let it go that way.

amispartacus · 30/01/2017 22:24

Meanwhile in Iran....

Iran fires its first medium range ballistic missile test in violation of UN resolution....

Benjamin Netanyahu is calling for more sanctions on Iran.

1 million Iranian Americans live in the USA...

Rat no worries. I'm kinda new to it too. I've had a couple big names retweet or like or follow and I kind gasp and think "okay, don't say anything stupid now!" hahahahaahaha Like they'd notice. It can be a bit unnerving.

Lweji · 30/01/2017 22:25

On things getting tougher, I got an, effectively, 30% pay cut.
It was the crisis that unregulated banking created. Which was taken advantage of by Trump and his mates.

Roussette · 30/01/2017 22:26

To lighten the mood a bit before I go to sleep... an old tweet from Trump Hotels has been revitalised with hilarious results.

Original tweet...
"Tell us your favourite travel memory, was it a picture, a souvenir, a sunset? We'd love to hear it!"

Replies today...
"It was this beautiful dream where the doors to all your hotels were closed for business"
and
"I remember the old days when you could travel abroad without being ashamed of being an American in the Trump era"
"My favourite travel memory? My grandfather landing on Ellis Island after dodging bullets in Eastern Europe. Thanks for asking!"
"1922 when my Grandma sailed the haverford to flee violence - and was welcomed in America by a Republican President"
"The time I fled communist Romania to a refugee camp in Austria, and years later became an Exec at Google and created 10,000 jobs"

It's so good to see Twitter working against Trump.

Destinysdaughter · 30/01/2017 22:26

On a slightly more trivial note, been watching Celeb Big Brother. They're going to come out of the House to an utterly changed world!

Abbylee, I understand that many people took a gamble on Trump. I understand the feeling that "whoever you vote for the government always gets in". I can see the logic in the belief that a vote for Trump would at least shake the other politicians out of their complacency.

The problem is that it turns out that he is much worse than anybody else. He actually is a narcissistic con artist who'll say anything to anyone to get what he wants, and it turns out that Steve Bannon is in charge.

We do buy healthcare in the UK, it's just that we all pay into the common pot. The American attitude to healthcare is as alien to most Brits as the American attitude to guns. I can't imagine the republicans agreeing to anything even approaching the UK system. However, you will never get a healthcare system that doesn't cost money.

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 22:30

Destiny I thought that about CBB too. I don't really watch it, but yes, isn't it ending soon? Think of all they've missed.

Destinysdaughter · 30/01/2017 22:30

For my sins I only really learnt how to use Twitter when all that 1 Direction Larry stuff was going on Blush

Didn't realise how useful it would become!

Lweji · 30/01/2017 22:30

GingerIvy

I know. Just pointing out that the US health problems are much bigger than Obamacare.
That the way it was allowed through is what caused the problems. They can't force people to take up insurance but forced insurers to accept preexisting conditions.
Good thing you were not in that group, hey, Abby.
I'd be blaming GOP, not Obama.
But guess who you have now?
Don't be too excited about how good things will be for you now, because they won't. Sad

Roussette · 30/01/2017 22:31

Abby... I'm only going to pick you up on this you said Trump is not against LGBT

Please come back to this thread in a few days and I think you will be eating your words. Another EO is on its way allowing for discrimination againgst LGBT folk

So Trump told Mrs May about the #MuslimBan on Friday and she still hadn't worked out what she thought by Saturday? Is that right?

amispartacus · 30/01/2017 22:32

I have to admit this is one hell of a leading question:

Do you favor or oppose a temporary ban on refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen until the federal government improves its ability to screen out potential terrorists from coming here

Maybe they should say:

Do you favor or oppose a temporary ban on refugees from Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen who are fleeing torture, rape, ISIS and their homes being bombed and destroyed?

Just to get a different answer....

The US Press were crap at that press conference. Does no one hold them accountable?

Watching Newsnight now. This thread is the most up to date news source right now tho. Smile

And Twitter.

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 22:33

Obamacare brought in some very important legislation that is in great danger of being lost. The pre-existing conditions, for example. That is YUGE!! The best!! (no, it really is) It absolutely cannot be lost.

JeffreyArchersUnderpants · 30/01/2017 22:34

I've been working my way through these threads feeling more than a bit horrified and like I need to wake up from a nightmare.

I'm also procrastinating. I'm supposed to be writing an essay about coercion and consent in 1930s European dictatorships, it's all rather surreal.

But thanks for the tweets and updates.

amispartacus · 30/01/2017 22:34

Another EO is on its way allowing for discrimination againgst LGBT folk

That's the great thing about Trump supporters. They tend to forget that he changes his mind a lot.

You can simply point out facts and real quotes.

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 22:34

ami they're a different breed to the UK media. Really.
