Assuming you are a right thinking individual, who thinks kissing the short fingered vulgarian's arse is demeaning to this country, please could you:

  1. Sign a petition against his getting the full state visit treatment. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/171928
  1. Post below, to bump the thread. Give us your best insults about President Fart, link to an anti-trump memes, or just suggest candidates for the worst thing he's ever said.

Feel free to disagree vociferously below as well :-)

"Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.

Donald Trump's well documented misogyny and vulgarity disqualifies him from being received by Her Majesty the Queen or the Prince of Wales. Therefore during the term of his presidency Donald Trump should not be invited to the United Kingdom for an official State Visit."

Of all his "issues" vulgarity gets a mention and racism doesn't?

OpalMoon · 29/01/2017 20:12

Signed.

Count at 630 000+

I looked at the map of votes. Every area has given over 1% but Brighton has given an impressive 3.6%.

Jellykat · 29/01/2017 20:14

Signed.. the figures are going up so fast, great!

notangelinajolie · 29/01/2017 20:21

No, I won't be signing. Petitions are pointless and don't prove anything - anyone can click on them.

ARumWithAView · 29/01/2017 20:25

This is one of the huge problems with Trump, isn't it?

He's so fucking awful on so many different fronts, any statement or petition against him invariably risks missing out or appearing to de-prioritise one, and then we end up discussing that while he rolls on.

The petition wording is far from perfect. I'm not signing it because I worry about embarrassment for the Queen, or because his vulgarity bothers me more than anything else. I'm signing it because he's putting harmful, hateful policies into practice every day, and there's every reason to believe he'll continue to do this; because he's normalizing terrible discrimination, prejudice, injustice and misogyny; because he's a narcissistic prick who loves the pomp and legitimacy of a big old ceremonious show, and the hell is he going to get it here. But I'm not going to start a new petition stating that, or refuse to sign this one which doesn't comprehensively state my views, because one million-plus petition will garner more attention and headlines than a group of smaller ones. Sometimes you just need a sledgehammer.

Figure17a · 29/01/2017 20:27

I'm struggling with the reason given for not having a state visit - because it would embarrass the Queen. I can think of lots of reasons he shouldn't be given that honour, most of them seen on here today, but I don't think the Queen's embarrassment is our biggest issue. Apart from anything else, I think she's quite able to look after herself on that front.

Figure17a · 29/01/2017 20:28

It's going to have a million before midnight, is my prediction. Have there been others with this many responses?

OpalMoon · 29/01/2017 20:29

Well said Rum

OneWithTheForce · 29/01/2017 20:29

650k now!

noeffingidea · 29/01/2017 20:36

I've signed. I feel sick inside whenever I read about Trump and whatever his latest 'stunt' is.

donquixotedelamancha · 29/01/2017 20:41

"I can think of lots of reasons he shouldn't be given that honour, most of them seen on here today, but I don't think the Queen's embarrassment is our biggest issue"

Indeed. She's hosted far worse dictators (though I can't think of one with less dignity than him). I think Queenie is being used as a proxy for the national humiliation we'd suffer if Mango Mussolini receives the same fawning treatment that Obama did. I'd rather support a petition that mentions all the issues discussed above, but this one is coming towards 700,000 sigs already, so we should all get behind it.

P.S. Can we all try to be a bit ruder about Fuckface von Clownstick please? This must be the only MN thread not to have degenerated into childish name calling by this point- and that's the point of the thread.

OP posts:
donquixotedelamancha · 29/01/2017 20:43

Also.............

"Please could everyone signing the petition also email their MP with your views and ask for a reply a) stating their views and b) confirming that the will share your thoughts with the PM and FCO."

This!!!

Because it needs to be said again:

*First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.*

This is us speaking out, cobweb.

Someone called you lazy, smug, etc etc upthread. I went back to look for your post. Now I think they didn't do you justice. I think you are an obvious example of what has gone wrong in this country and in US. I also think when the history will get written, people like you will be considered complicit. putting your faith in establishment, you are the prototypical Dudley of JK Rowling.
And no you are most certainly not right.

SanityAssassin · 29/01/2017 21:23

Our Heads of States visit and are visited by leaders from all over - Many of which I would chose Trump over (Saudi Arabia anyone??) or maybe China.

Errr... USA is a CONTINENT. Saudis are not.
USA is a world power. Saudis are not?
USA has bombed over 80 nations in the last few decades. Saudis have not.
USA has Harvard/MIT/Stanford. Saudis don't.
USA has killed MILLIONS in other countries in the last few decades. Saudis have not.

And I am never taking either of them. Why would I? Why SHOULD I? That's not even an argument: since I was raped by one man, I might as well accept gang rape now.
No thanks.

Figure17a · 29/01/2017 21:35

I don't think USA is a continent, but actually all of those are arguments for why we should receive America and shouldn't receive Saudia Arabia.

I can't abide him or what he's doing but I'm not sure why he should be denied a state visit when China got one.

MercyMyJewels · 29/01/2017 21:45

North and South America together is a continent

SanityAssassin · 29/01/2017 21:49

Errr... USA is a CONTINENT. Saudis are not. Err not entirely sure you're correct there but Saudi Arabia is still a very powerful country in World Politics so I think that's a fair comparison (plus we bend over backwards for them too)

USA is a world power. Saudis are not? As above pretty powerful as in WHY no one has bombed them yet despite their appalling Human Rights.

USA has bombed over 80 nations in the last few decades But not under Trump . Saudis have not. No but they have stoned a good few people.
USA has Harvard/MIT/Stanford. Saudis don't. WTF??

USA has killed MILLIONS in other countries in the last few decades. Saudis have not. Not under Trump Administration - and plenty of other countries are not squeaky clean of tis either?

And I am never taking either of them. Why would I? Why SHOULD I? That's not even an argument: since I was raped by one man, I might as well accept gang rape now. ????? Really sorry about your rape but............. WTF

Valentine2 · 29/01/2017 21:52

figure
I didn't know that. I never considered any of the countries when it came to US. It is disturbing isn't it?
But back to my question please: I don't think it's ok to bow to him. I don't think it would have been ok to let Hitler visit UK. I think we should protest every such dictator, more so if they come from and apparently civilised country because then the havoc they can create becomes hundred fold or so.
I think if we hadn't bowed to Bush, we wouldn't have had this refugee crisis. But getting Saudis here was different Saudi elite worship white skin because they have this fucked up mentality because they weren't the ones attacking Iraq directly.
I wish I could see the world with your naive eyes. But I don't think it's as simple as "if we can have China, why not Trump".

Valentine2 · 29/01/2017 21:56

Since you didn't get my Hardvard/MIT point, no point in discussing with you.
I replied the US = continent point upthread.

Bestthingever · 29/01/2017 21:58

USA is a continent. No it isn't. North America is a continent. USA is a country. Wow.

Darlink · 29/01/2017 21:59

You are wasting your time.

SanityAssassin · 29/01/2017 22:07

Since you didn't get my Hardvard/MIT point, no point in discussing with you.

I am no fan of Trump but interestingly as you seem so against him do you EVER protest about all the other really awful world leader who are actually non democratically elected and embezzling their countries monies, open to bribes, raping and killing, etc etc it goes on and the Royal Family and MPs visit those counties and invite them here - We even give loads of money in State Aid to some of these too (not USA obs) - you know just interested. He's a twat but a lesser one than some (so far).

FlabbyFantastic · 29/01/2017 22:15

If the Cambridges let the Foreign Office pimp them out to this arsehole then my currently high esteem of them will be seriously damaged. Given his comments of Kate's topless photos I hope they both have the pride and courage to tell the powers that be to well and truly fuck off.

We have a Monarch. We have an heir to the throne. He does not need to meet 2nd in line to the throne!

If President Pop-Off is too yellow-belly to hold an intelligent conversation with the Prince of Wales hen perhaps he should stay the right side of the Atlantic!!
