He is using "don't trivialise the Holocaust" to minimise the dangers here. Fucker.

Lab MP gets booed by Tories when she says the Holocaust didn't start with the gas chambers...

No, it started with appeasement from the UK

Gingerivy. I imagine in New York there are plenty of restaurants you can eat in that keep a kosher kitchen although you'd be limited anywhere without a largish Jewish population.

Ginger

The GCC countries also ban Israeli landing stamps in any passport. The solution is to have two and the Passport office will issue an additional passport so that one is free from Israeli stamps

Weedsnseeds1 · 30/01/2017 17:21

ginger , because Orthodox Jewish women are supposed to cover arms, legs and chest to show modesty. Tgey often wear a strappy dress, but layered with a long sleeved top underneath. They are also supposed to eat Kosher.
Sorry if someone answered already, I can't keep up with the speed of this thread!

Destinysdaughter · 30/01/2017 17:22

"Its up to the Americans how they defend their borders " ( from some grey Tory)

Yep that about sums up their position

Which is why we NEED demonstrations and activism in this country as they won't do anything about it...

BigBadgers · 30/01/2017 17:23

I didn't realise all 7 of those banned countries also banned Israel passport holders

This has become the standard response form people defending trump. It is the 'well George down the road stole a car, so why can't I' arguement. It annoys the hell out of me.

My response is:
-Just because some countries have objectionable policies does not mean we should not call out America's.

  • Two wrongs do not make a right.
  • I expect better from the supposed leader of the free world who should be leading by example
  • it is not simply the policy, but the way it has been implemented that is objectionable. If it had gone through the correct scrutiny and government procedures, and been put in place with time for legitimate travellers to adjust we may not be seeing the protests we have now.
GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 17:25

Weeds so how does that marry up with her posting all those pics of her in strapless dresses? (and appearing in public events in them?)

ginger, it doesn't, hence the comments on it!

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 17:41

I guess I'm not shocked. Hmm

I am, however, sitting here seething over Boris Johnson. How fucking dare he downplay everything that is going on by saying "don't trivialise the Holocaust by comparing this to it"?!?!! Is he serious!?! There are thousands of people that have had relatives that died in the Holocaust that are screaming that this is just how it all started last time. There are experts everywhere saying over and over that it's very very similar and very concerning!

And Boris can't be bothered. I hope it doesn't happen, but if it does, I hope Boris is remembered in the history books as "not bothered" by it and "not concerned." Just think of every shitty word descriptor we think of on MN.... put them all together... that's what I think of him right now.

This will be worth listening to I think. Tonight Radio4 8.30pm (should be available on iplayer afterwards)
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08bzdd1

The journey of an American 'cold warrior' from nuclear deterrence to nuclear disarmament. Former US Secretary of Defence William J Perry has spent his entire seven-decade career on the nuclear brink. A brilliant mathematician, he became involved in the development of weapons-related technology in the aftermath of World War II. As an analyst working at the heart of the Cuban Missile Crisis, he thought each day could be "my last day on earth." He was undersecretary for defence under President Carter in the 1970s, and secretary for defence under President Clinton in the 1990s. He arranged the dismantling of thousands of nuclear weapons in former Soviet republics after the collapse of the USSR, used strategic diplomacy with nuclear nations to prevent escalation, and argued - unsuccessfully - against the NATO expansion that Russia continues to find so threatening.
Now Secretary Perry is worried. Very worried. President Trump and President Putin are both ramping up their bellicose rhetoric. Mr Perry sees an increasing risk of nuclear conflagration in South Asia and the Korean peninsula, and in the face of an on-going terrorism threat, he is concerned unsecured nuclear materials could fall into the wrong hands.
"Today, the danger of some sort of nuclear catastrophe is greater than it was during the Cold War and most people are blissfully unaware of this danger," he argues.
What can be done? In a challenging interview with Edward Stourton, Secretary Perry reflects on the nuclear nightmare, and lays out his formula for nuclear security in our changing world.

BigBadgers · 30/01/2017 17:46

That eo on removing 2 regulations for every new one is absolutely crazy. Regulation just didn't work like that. It's not a fucking club in Woking on a Friday night. A regulation should be put in place or removed based on the priorities of the government and the merits of the regulation itself. I can't get my head round this one at all.

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 17:49

Badgers It'll be used as an excuse to get of regulations to help him. Not the country.
