sk themhow they feel about having their mobile phone contacts harvested & their social media scrutinised at the airport border control before they are let into the US & how they'd feel if one of their party, say husband or SIL was deemed unacceptable & bounced home onthe next return flight. That has to put a downer on anyone's dream family holiday

Given some Americans views, I feel we should look at their social media before they come to the UK. Just in case they have views that are different to British values...

What's the betting the screening will be racially profiled?

"I wonder what will happen when a religiously inspired terrorist attack occurs in the USA? An attack on Muslims carried out by a Christian fundamentalist using weapons acquired legally in the USA?"

They will say, it's a terrible tragedy, but we need to examine the underlying issues to prevent this happening again. What drove that Christian to such a drastic act? For too long many Christian Americans have seen the values of their country eroded ..etc ..etc.. blame it on the Muslims. Sad

Quick thank you for the thread.
Sad to hear of Canada shooting.

Usernumber, I have a friend who has posted pictures of 9/11 all over FB, saying stop picking on Trump, look what these countries have done, let him build his wall to keep all these people out and build it across the sea and keep his country safe!

SERIOUSLY?!?!

merrymouse · 30/01/2017 09:05

Certainly, since 9/11, more people have been killed by aeroplanes mysteriously dropping out of the sky for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with Russia than have been killed in America by refugees.

I think that if Trump is this risk averse he should be rethinking that jet.

amispartacus · 30/01/2017 09:08

and build it across the sea and keep his country safe

The biggest danger to Americans is other Americans.

The biggest danger to American Muslims is American who don't like Muslims and who have guns.

Ask your friend that and see what they say..

Wasn't that clothing label picture doing the rounds under Bush's presidency? Don't want to put a downer on what is a brilliant thread, but I think we have to query anything that might be fake.

Otherwise keep up the great work guys.

Roussette · 30/01/2017 09:15

oh it could have been chicken, someone sent it to me so I presumed it was new! Blush

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 09:18

I'd prefer we not ban Americans from the UK, if you don't mind. I'm American, and as my ex would never agree to me taking our children out of the country, I'd literally be ripped away from my two disabled children and they'd be left with an abusive British parent.

I am, however, noting that news reports are saying that the terrorists in the overnight shooting in Canada had Canadian accents and were likely Canadian (although I don't think it's been confirmed officially yet?). Will Trump now ban Canadians? No. Why? Because 1. he has an agenda and Canadian terrorists don't fit that agenda 2. the terrorists killed people that Trump doesn't want in the US so it's all good to him 3. nobody from the US was killed, so he doesn't care (although to be fair, I don't think it's been confirmed whether or not anyone injured or killed was actually American).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2017 09:19

Someone on r4 this morning was saying that Trump is considering naming the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organisation.
I know that we have done that in the UK, but I don't know enough about them to really know if it is justified? Would it be the equivalent of labelling Sinn Fein a terrorist group?

It does worry me though that it is another step of 'othering'.

merrymouse · 30/01/2017 09:19

The biggest danger to American Muslims is American who don't like Muslims and who have guns.

Although I suspect the biggest danger for everyone is being accidentally shot because of the rubbish gun laws.

But apparently getting shot by a toddler is a risk worth taking.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2017 09:20

Actually, I need to correct that - Cameron said it was a terrorist organisation, but it seems that the conclusion after debate was that it is not.

GingerIvy · 30/01/2017 09:22

I'd like to think that, if nothing else, this entire shambles could teach us one thing -
All Canadians are not terrorists simply because 2 committed a terrorist act.
All Americans are not Trump supporters simply because he was voted President.
All Brits do not have bad teeth.
All leavers are not racist.

The moment you start with "ALL" in these situations, you're already in the wrong.

This is the kind of thinking that Trump and his ilk don't get. It's labelling of groups and the fact that logic only applies to people who he doesn't like. I bet he would have major issues if American Christians were extremely vetted around the world because some of them hold extremist views - or if they were asked to show their social media records.

It's cognitive dissonance - a great way to fuck people's minds up.
