Will he ban gun sales? Or just ban gun sales to Muslims?

@DamonSilvers thanks. Are they saying people are in Secondary Screening as opposed to detention? Still no access to counsel granted?

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 23:25

You can see the nonsense the ACLU solicitors are having to deal with, trying to help those still detained.

Does this sound like any UK politician?

Steve Bannon is no "man of the people". He's a Goldman Sachs-working, DC townhouse-living racist riding a gravy train built on hate and lies

I suspect CBP really doesn't like the idea of non-citizens getting expanded rights to access an attorney at the border.

The joint statement of former presidential candidates John McCain & Lindsey Graham is wrong - they are sadly weak on immigration. The two...

...Senators should focus their energies on ISIS, illegal immigration and border security instead of always looking to start World War III.

SanFranBear · 29/01/2017 23:28

To be fair to the BBC - I saw a commentator on the papers yesterday get very outspoken and calling him an outright fascist. Trying to remember who it was but there have certainly been a couple over the last few days (I remember Lynn Faulds Wood who used to be on Watchdog not mincing her words in the slightest)...

They have to be careful though but don't forget that it was Laura Kuenssberg, the political editor who got into hot water after 'daring' to question the Emperor on his policies and was branded an embarrassment and rude.

POTUS on Facebook (just in case a newspaper didn't print it properly)

Statement Regarding Recent Executive Order Concerning Extreme Vetting
“America is a proud nation of immigrants and we will continue to show compassion to those fleeing oppression, but we will do so while protecting our own citizens and border. America has always been the land of the free and home of the brave.
We will keep it free and keep it safe, as the media knows, but refuses to say. My policy is similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from Iraq for six months. The seven countries named in the Executive Order are the same countries previously identified by the Obama administration as sources of terror. To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting.
This is not about religion - this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide that are majority Muslim that are not affected by this order. We will again be issuing visas to all countries once we are sure we have reviewed and implemented the most secure policies over the next 90 days.
I have tremendous feeling for the people involved in this horrific humanitarian crisis in Syria. My first priority will always be to protect and serve our country, but as President I will find ways to help all those who are suffering.”

You can tell he's written at least part of it: "I have tremendous feeling"

His "ban" is a total mess.

Regarding Obama and the 2011 ban on Iraqi refugees:

"A 2013 ABC News article reported, “The State Department stopped processing Iraq refugees for six months in 2011, federal officials told ABC News – even for many who had heroically helped U.S. forces as interpreters and intelligence assets.”

Trump’s executive order stops all Iraqi citizens from temporarily entering the U.S. “on any visa category,” affecting those trying to visit family or come here for work, in addition to live. It also affects six other countries, and people with green cards. Trump’s order gives preference to religious minority groups, such as Christians, when the admissions resume, according to The New York Times.

The Mirror describes what Obama did this way: “Paused approvals of refugee applications from Iraq for a period of six months after two Iraqi al-Qaeda terrorists were discovered living as refugees in Kentucky.” The news site says Obama’s action was in response to a “specific event” and designed to give authorities time to do the fingerprint matches off recovered IEDs."

Leading Republican Bob Corker says Trump's immigration order was "poorly implemented." reut.rs/2jk6DQg via @Reuters

PausingFlatly · 29/01/2017 23:44

I caught the main part of the BBC news earlier - substantial coverage of the travel ban, and intro to clip of Trump was "he claimed, without any evidence, that Muslims were let in from Syria but not Christians". And followed that up with clip of Christian family who Trump has just refused entry and have had to return to Mid E, I think Syria.

So I don't think they've ducked out on this one.

Lawyers are advising green card holders to fly into Boston as they're having less hassle there, as judicial order is more expansive there.
