I had a UKIP supporter reply to one of my tweets today commenting on the crowd size. I countered her argument on Monday and I got the reply today. Was surprised she's going on about that.

Formal statement from FCO expected shortly - sources say assurances mean Mo Farah + others in that position will be able to go home

Suddenly, all certainties look shaky. Residencies, passports, green cards, jobs, mortgages, friends, marriages – all the things you thought fortified you against the mobilisation of state machinery – dissolve. You are only a Muslim. And what does that mean? It is a tag that defies definition, becoming more elusive the more you try to pin it down.

Apologies if this has already been posted. It's worth a read. Not just for the discussion on how it feels to be on the receiving end of this, but for the part about how we got here. Because reprehensible as this is, it hasn't sprung out of nowhere. It's just that now, we can all see that the frog is cooked.

Not read all of this new thread yet, I'm sure there are multiple links to this petition, but here it is again- going up by about 60/70k signatures an hour I think.

I've been upset about what's going on all day, but this has just lightened my mood slightly. I'm going to bed laughing and encouraged by the thought that there does seem to be some fighting back going on. The Senate Minority Leader's speech was very moving.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 20:11

It does worry me because obviously I'm an American in the UK. I am on an ILR, so have indefinite leave to remain. To get my citizenship, I'd have to pay over £1.5K. I have children with disabilities, and just don't have the spare cash for that. If the UK were to go back on the ILR, which is really just the UK equivalent of a green card, it'd be a horrendous ordeal getting things sorted. My ex wouldn't give me permission to take the children out the country, and I wouldn't have the legal permission to stay if they revoked the ILRs. It's scary. At some point, yes, I need to get the citizenship sorted.... but technically the ILR is supposed to be permanent residency.

Promo/headline on Breitbart home page right now: "Another promotion for rising star Bannon." I guess that's one way to look at it.

This is the Turkish press conference with May.

At 21 mins, a UK journalist asks a very hard question of May. You can see the look on his face.

Tim, this is great but the Dems in the Senate actually have to do something about this stuff. You are being left behind by your base

Zebra you can of course sign the Irish petition, the more signatures the better! (Irish here) Though the site seems to have crashed. It's numbers are rising incredibly fast since I signed this morning.

lazarusb · 29/01/2017 20:18

All power to you ZebraOwl. Those individuals need challenging at every turn.

I would love to know what's going at number 10 right now. I hope I'm not right in thinking that the PM will leave this to Boris Johnson and Amber Rudd to address.

No longer irrational to wonder what Trump will use to "justify" total crackdown on democracy and rule of law. Will Congress go along?.

wow - May is very good at non answers. 1st Q deflected.

Turkey's PM gives a very good answer. Try and solve the problems to stop people fleeing.

He shames May with his answer. Turkey has loads of refugees.
