Was I being unreasonable to ask this woman to stop making 'aww' noises?

Blush I think I might have just been quite rude, so do tell me if you think I was and I will apologise to her.

She was asking me questions - are you married, do you have kids and so on, and I was responding in the negative. She then kept saying 'awwwww' sympathetically, with a head tilt. I said in the end politely but a bit tersely 'please don't do that!'

Was I? I feel bad now!

She sounds annoying!

Arkhamasylum · 28/01/2017 11:44

You were being unreasonable.

You should have nutted her.

DJBaggySmalls · 28/01/2017 11:45

WTF did she mean? I would have been a lot ruder.

Bailey101 · 28/01/2017 11:46

If she'd done that to me on a good day, I'd probably have responded the same way you did. Otherwise, I doubt I would have been so polite.

She was rude and you shouldn't be expected to get patronised like that!

bobbinpop · 28/01/2017 11:46

YWNBU!

Who was she in relation to you?

AliciaMayEmory · 28/01/2017 11:47

A bit defensive of you I think. Some people are just trying to make small talk and are not all that good at it. Your response may make her less inclined to try again in the future. I understand it may be annoying, but I think you were a bit rude.

unflinchingasaphotograph · 28/01/2017 11:48

Most people think I wasn't being unreasonable, phew!

Alicia I know but it made me feel like an unwanted dog, or something!

No you weren't rude. She was being weird

Reality16 · 28/01/2017 11:50

Context?

unflinchingasaphotograph · 28/01/2017 11:51

That was the context Reality. I met her at a friends party, she was chatting to me, and then I got the questions and there must have been nine or ten of them, I got an 'awwwwww' sympathetic noise too!

Random person you met at a party - I would have asked her to elaborate on her awwwwing lol

unflinchingasaphotograph · 28/01/2017 11:54

She then stopped asking questions, which was a relief to be honest.

AntiQuitty · 28/01/2017 11:54

Awwwwww don't feel bad!

milkshake1973 · 28/01/2017 11:54

YANBU IMO... who is this woman anyway? Hmm

CaoNiMa · 28/01/2017 11:55

I get this sometimes, when people ask if I'm married with children and I say I'm not. I just do the classic "tinkly laugh" and say "No, it's fine. I prefer it this way!"

ilovesooty · 28/01/2017 11:56

Why were you even answering?

ToastOfLondon · 28/01/2017 12:00

I think I would have said something too. Id have only nutted her if she continued.

I'm curious how old she was and where she was from.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 28/01/2017 12:01

Maybe she'd been playing with baby chicks previously and said 'awwwwww' so many times now it's all she can say.

Like non-heroic, non-loveable version of Hodor.

unflinchingasaphotograph · 28/01/2017 12:02

ilovesooty I think she was trying to be friendly and "get to know me." It was uncomfortable really as I kept trying to turn the questions back on her ("so, how about you?") but she then would ask me another question.

She was my age - mid/late thirties. Northern. Like me. :)

When I'm asked that, I just say "god no" as if the thought fills me with horror.
Works a treat.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/01/2017 12:03

She's the one being rude asking personal questions.

CaraAspen · 28/01/2017 12:05

OP:
You were rude when she was just trying to empathise. Good grief.
