To ask how much child maintenance

Toodlepip16 · 26/01/2017 22:11

How much child maintenance do you/your DP pay to your ex or receive from ex, and what are the circumstances behind it? ie approx salary of person paying the maintenance and number of days child is with them. Do they take them on annual holiday too?

OP posts:
AyeAmarok · 27/01/2017 11:35

My DP pays £300, earns £50k, pays for DSC phone contract and hobby. Stays with us minimum of twice a weeks and comes on annual holidays with us. We have a DC too.

That's low for his income. Holidays and don't count.

Was just interested to see whether this was around average x

Given your DP's income, it's pretty crap.

If you and he split up, would you be happy if he only paid £150 a month towards your one DC and you had to fund everything else?

No career break, just standard mat leave on full pay when DSC was born and her and my DP were still together.

Bullshit she was on full pay for her whole mat leave. Unless she only took a few weeks.

Considering the ExP also has two incomes in the household.

Irrelevant. And YOU don't pay maintenance, it's not about you having joint finances and so his maintenance coming out of joint funds, it's that it's not calculated based on your joint salary, only his (in fact, it sounds like not even his). So her DP's income is just as irrelevant as yours.

ZouBisou · 27/01/2017 11:40

The new partner's income isn't irrelevant when it comes to their DSC going to university, weirdly.

I agree it should be irrelevant in terms of a lot of things. But in reality given the way that household finances actually work, it probably won't be at least some of the time.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 27/01/2017 11:45

Exh pays 1500 a month for 5 children. He has them overnight 4 nights a week but I have them more during the day.

Doesn't matter who has them during the day, for CM it is nights that count.

As Pp has said he could easily claim too be the resident parent and you would have to pay him.

bibliomania · 27/01/2017 11:48

Nothing at the moment with arrears of around £900 still owing.

He's never paid voluntarily. I didn't even ask for anything the first four years or so, then I went to the CSA. CSA eventually got payments deducted at source, first from his employer, then from his benefits (under a tenner a week). He seems to have got another job a few months ago so I haven't received anything since then. CSA told me their systems wouldn't pick up the change so they wait for me to chase. He should tell them of the change in his circumstances, but yeah, not happening. They'll ask him nicely yet again, and then go back to HMRC. They don't think it will be sorted by the time by case is transferred to CMS in May.

I was on to CMS yesterday to set up the case and pay my £20 for their services. I don't know if my £20 is a good investment and whether and when I'll get anything from him again, but we'll see. I live in hope.

He sees dd(9) for a few hours every fortnight (he would have her more, to be fair, but a court has decided this is not conducive to her wellbeing) and gives her the occasional £5, so I get to listen to her marvelling about how kind and generous daddy is. It leads to a certain amount of gritting of teeth on my part.

He's convinced I'm receiving vast amounts of tax credits (I work full-time and don't get any tax credits) and is deeply indignant at being forced to contribute to what he believes are my bulging coffers.

BitchPeas · 27/01/2017 11:49

£300 every 4 weeks, for 1 child. I have no idea how much he earns, somewhere between 28k-35k plus bonuses I imagine. It's a Private arrangement that I had to blackmail him for, after not receiving a penny for the first 4 years we were split. He sees DS about twice a month for 6-8 hours at a time, has him over night 3-6 times a year, his choice. Never takes him on holiday but does take him shopping for random bits every now and again, will give me half the money for new clothes and shoes a couple of times a year. I hope that his new girlfriend doesn't sub him and this comes out of his money and his alone, but I doubt it. Imo she shouldn't be responsible for his feckless ways and I know she does all the cooking etc for DS when he is there, she's only young so I feel bad for her if she has to pick up the financial slack as DS isn't her responsibility.

AmserGwin · 27/01/2017 11:55

£80 per week for 2 kids. He has another two children living with him, of which one is his. I find doing it weekly rather than monthly works out better, as there are sometimes more than 4 weeks in a month which would leave me short. We don't have a set arrangement but sees them for all the school holidays and the odd weekend. Lives 4hrs drive away, or would be more often

AliceInUnderpants · 27/01/2017 11:55

£35 week for two kids, so around 150 a month. Minimum wage. They stay one night a week. He can usually be persuaded to have them for around 5 nights twice a year, but has never taken them away.

LittleLionMansMummy · 27/01/2017 11:59

Dh earns 27k and was paying £280 for two dc. One is now 20yo so he now pays £230 to his ex for the remaining dsd and gives dad a £50pm allowance. It started at £200 but increased with inflation and as dh earned more over the years. He used to have them every Sunday and one weekend a month overnight. He repeatedly asked for more contact but his ex was very rigid. Dsd2 is now 17. If she goes to uni he'll continue to pay the £280 directly to her until she finishes (voluntary). Sadly dsd1 is nc.

HiggeldyPiggeldy · 27/01/2017 12:05

£0 3 dc his income is £40k ish sees dc 3 times a year has them for 2-3 weeks in the summer, pays for half school trips sometimes

I don't live in the UK, he does though

pishedoff · 27/01/2017 12:05

Wings- Wow Shock, so DS could end up with less than £29 a week ShockConfused. Is it up to me to notify the CMS or Ex? They won't be able to ask me to pay it back will they?!!!

frazzled3ds · 27/01/2017 12:05

No maintenance but paid but he does have the boys one night every week and then alternate weekends from school pick up til tea time Sunday. School holidays are agreed each time, usually he has them for a full week during the summer holidays, and a few extra days over Christmas and New Year, plus a couple of extra days in other school hols. He pays for uniform, school shoes, 50% of school trips, and organises and pays for Scouts/Cubs. Obviously also buys them clothes for when they're with him and has taken them on holiday previously - that may change a bit now as he and his partner have a 6 month old now so unless they change their cars to fit 4 kids in it could be a challenge! Personally felt that time spent with the kids was preferable to payments. He lives quite local, we get on ok, and there's some flexibility in it all too e.g. if additional nights are needed at short notice for emergency then it usually works out (my Nana passed away this morning and he's already said he'll have the boys whilst I take my parents away for the funeral etc).

BitchQueen90 · 27/01/2017 12:06

£450 every 4 weeks for one child, exH earns £38k. He has DS approx 1 night a week. We do not go through CMS, he pays voluntarily through bank transfer. While he has many other faults he always keeps his financial end of the deal, never any late or missed payments and has told me every time he has had a pay rise and increased maintenance accordingly.

helpimitchy · 27/01/2017 12:10

I get £30 a month Hmm

It covers bugger all.

pishedoff · 27/01/2017 12:16

I've just done the calculator and it would appear Ex has to pay £57 a week between the 3 children Sad, so no way that DS is going to keep his £29 a week!

Welshmaenad · 27/01/2017 12:18

Ex earns £20k. Has them 2 nights a week on average. Doesn't pay me any maintenance - which is my choice.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 27/01/2017 12:18

Why are you so obsessed with holidays op? You honestly believe a child is DEPRIVED without an annual holiday?
You're coming across as quite bitter, I'm not sure if you are or your tone is unfortunate.

witsender · 27/01/2017 12:23

Agreed. Your husband pays the bare minimum yet your tone is somewhat martyred, and dripping with hostility towards the ex.

RhodaBorrocks · 27/01/2017 12:23

Nothing. It used to be £100 a month or 10% of his earnings (for 1 DC) but he quit his job and doesn't sign on. He's currently cocklodging somewhere either up north or in Australia but I have no idea where he is.

Zoflorabore · 27/01/2017 12:24

£140 pm for the last 12 years, no increase.
I've given up with him, to me it's more than money even though I do need it.

Would rather he saw ds more than once every couple of weeks and was a nicer dad to him. He's got a wife and a young child and has a salary of around 30k plus his own business at weekends.

I would give him £140 a month to show some interest in my lovely ds.

He's a big present buyer though and likes to show off what he's bought him, mostly ridiculous tech/gadgets that cost a fortuneConfused

BitchQueen90 · 27/01/2017 12:25

£300 out of £50k is not much. My exH pays more than that for one child and his income is lower.

WatchingFromTheWings · 27/01/2017 12:48

Wings- Wow shock, so DS could end up with less than £29 a week shockconfused. Is it up to me to notify the CMS or Ex? They won't be able to ask me to pay it back will they?!!!

I'm not 100% sure.....you may be better off starting your own thread in the appropriate forum. I'm pretty certain it would be up to him to notify and any changes would start from there....I doubt they'd be able to back date it and make you repay. IF that is the case, I'd say nothing and let him notify but it might be worth finding out....I'm sure someone on MN will have a better idea. X

It's pretty shit either way.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 27/01/2017 12:49

I recieve no CM incoming (used to get £20 every 4 weeks) but I do pay 2k a month to the mother of 2 of my step kids and they stay with me when ever they feel like it.

They are lovely kids with a lovely mother it is not their fault she is broke and dad is a liar deadbeat.

The one ex I have who reasonably could be expected to pay (I'm have also been widowed and some of my kids are as a result of donor conception) is self employed
