To think there's a nice way to disagree with people on here?

I've posted a few AIBUs under another name. Sometimes it turns out I am being unreasonable. Which is good to know, after all it's why I asked the question.

Some people manage to communicate this very constructively, encouraging you to see it from the other person's perspective, sharing personal experience etc.

However some replies basically seem to take joy in tearing you down, being consescending/dismissive, not really adding anything to the discussion other than how ridiculous they think you are.

AIBU to think that if you disagree with someone, there's always still a respectful way to communicate that?

Oooh, good idea Purple Grin

user1485424999 · 26/01/2017 13:24

I'm very late to the party responding, but this is my username because it's what MN gives you by default when you sign up and I'm on a mobile and don't know how to change it. It's not some big conspiracy I promise!

LOVE that purple

CallMeAsterisk · 26/01/2017 13:25

I would love to be called * by a young man...
MN includes many, many posters with extensive vocabularies who know lots about lots of stuff who like a bit of a swear.
That's what the site is like,it's why so many of us love it.

CaraAspen · 26/01/2017 13:26

I think some areas of this site are challenging too - but obviously not in the same way. I loved some of the posters on that old site and I miss them. But if the mods stifle the life out of a place and do even permit the use of the word "twerp" it ain't worth bothering with.

FizzBombBathTime · 26/01/2017 13:26

Oh Call you naughty sort! Get over here you *

Doolallylally · 26/01/2017 13:27

It's the internet. Grow a thick skin and if you don't like what someone posts, ignore and move on.

Manumission · 26/01/2017 13:27

Colon works.

"Ampersand off" is also quite satisfying.

Cool. I used my iPhone to join and was able to use my name of choice. Weird!

FizzBombBathTime · 26/01/2017 13:28

8---->,,, for dick splash. Great insult.

(Hope your digestive tract isn't shocked TOO much by that one, Cara)

Lighten up

SmileEachDay · 26/01/2017 13:32

Cara you choose not to use the word cunt. That's fine, obviously. You may have very well thought out reasons for this.

But why so judgey about other people using words?

FizzBombBathTime · 26/01/2017 13:34

Smile can have a backie please?

SmileEachDay · 26/01/2017 13:36

You can but you'll need to be prepared to form a clown pyramid.

Gowgirl · 26/01/2017 13:38

I think cunt is a very special word for very special people......unfortunately there are a lot of them aboutGrin

Gowgirl · 26/01/2017 13:39

Lobs half a dozen creme eggs into the mix cos they make a mess and taste like shit nowdays.

FizzBombBathTime · 26/01/2017 13:41

FizzBombBathTime · 26/01/2017 13:42

I'm confused now. Not that it matters at all but you started your OP by saying, "I've posted a few AIBUs under another name".

So how did you wind up as user1485424999 and unable to change it? Confused

toomuchtooold · 26/01/2017 18:00

I do wish AIBU was a bit nicer. Lots of times it reads (to me anyway) like the person's just looking for a bit of validation and a hand hold and I don't see the harm in giving that as long as they're not asking you to condone puppy torture or something. You know, it's like, maybe the lady in Tesco/the bus queue/the Ikea parking space was giving you evils/totally out of order/completely in the wrong and maybe she wasn't, but you're obviously shaken up, so sit down and have a Brew and rant to us. That's what AIBU would be if I ruled the world.

gandalf456 · 27/01/2017 10:47

Me too too muchSmile

SomethingBorrowed · 27/01/2017 10:55

YANBU
I quite like the bluntness and honesty of AIBU, but some posters seem to just want to take advantage of being hidden behing a screen to be mean.
I still remember being asked "do you even love your children?" - nothing else, that was the full post - while discussing sleep training, tell me what was the point except saying something that you would never dare say IRL?
