To think Paperchase have lost their minds over cock and anal cards

Paperchase have a series of Valentine's cards with such witty captions as "I love your big cock" and "nothing says I love you like anal".

As a high street chain hugely popular with young people, I'd kind of expect them to understand some boundaries about graphic and sexually explicit language.

They're brazening it out on Twitter, claiming their minuscule disclaimer about the cards being rude is absolutely adequate.

Grim.

Seems the sun are getting stories from here now

Paperchase? Ha!

They lost me when I saw the purple glitter Jesus money boxes. Offensive on many levels.

RJnomore1 · 26/01/2017 18:33

Ah I e never shopped in scribbler I was just Shock I could actually see them through the window.

BakeOffBiscuits · 26/01/2017 18:35

That's a brilliant result! Arrietty thanks for sending the link to his thread to them.

I actually went into my local Paperchase to complain this afternoon, about 4.00pm and the offending cards weren't there! Not sure if it is because it's a small store in a small market town or because of his thread , but result non the less. Smile

ShatnersBassoon · 26/01/2017 18:35

Great response from Paperchase. They need to concentrate on quirky and leave tasteless well alone.

Keeptrudging · 26/01/2017 18:42

The Jesus money box was disconcerting. I wasn't offended, but could see it might be for others, and did wonder if they'd have risked it with any other religion.

TheCraicDealer · 26/01/2017 18:43

The ad beneath the Mirror article featured Jay from The Inbetweeners. I think even that character's sense of humour was more refined.

Glad they've reconsidered. I've got a card to buy this weekend and now I don't have to avoid them.

nicebiscuit25 · 26/01/2017 19:07

I had a card shop and there best sellers

Trollspoopglitter · 26/01/2017 19:10

They did the same exact thing in 2013?! Those cards are even worse?!

Fuck them. Plenty of stationary stores around that don't try pulling this sort of shite for publicity.

Datun · 26/01/2017 20:20

I think we should agree to boycott them unless they put up a card that says

'Not now darling, can't you see I'm on Mumsnet'.

SixthSenseless · 26/01/2017 20:23

Datun, they should commission you!

What would a MN range of rude cards say?

MetalMidget · 26/01/2017 20:26

Oooh, wedding cards that say, "I've cancelled the cheque" or "Because Maui".

birdsdestiny · 26/01/2017 20:33

"Well that's a red flag if ever I saw one"

Waffles80 · 26/01/2017 20:54

That Sun headline is superb.

'Not that beaker!'

SarfEast1cated · 26/01/2017 20:58

Waffle I agree! The subs must have been whooping and punching the air after using that...

Reminded me of Kenny Everett c1980?

Datun · 26/01/2017 21:02

"I told my wife I wanted something for the shed for my birthday. I got this Korean lady."

They should all be trademarked 'MN'.

Waffles80 · 26/01/2017 21:02

They've had that headline on file for ageeeeees.

"I've got this great headline, yeah. So let me know the MINUTE someone does something fucking thick around Feb 14th."

Mmm, I'm afraid that brand is tainted for me now. Celebrating coercion ("if you love me you'd do this thing that you quite possibly don't want to do") is something I find a bit hard to forgive. Sounds to me as though they have only taken them down because of the complaints, not because they recognise why it was wrong.

OverAndAbove · 26/01/2017 21:07

Ahh God bless Kenny Everett - may he rest in peace!

But seriously, my DDs aged 9 and 11 shop at Paperchase all the time. I am so glad they've stopped this monstrosity

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 26/01/2017 21:13

I showed the photos in the OP to DH just now for a make perspective - he said they were weird and unpleasant.

Waffles80 · 26/01/2017 21:32

My DH too.

Well done. They were shocking and not in a good way. Whoever signed that range off at Paperchase needs their head wobbled.
