AIBU Pret staff say miso and broth are the same thing. I say post-truth, alternative fact rubbish!

Two very patronising staff in Pret tried to tell me that the broth they gave me when I ordered miso was miso and/or the same as miso. I pointed out miso is fermented soy beans and broth is boiled bones and they said 'yes! It's the same'.
WTF?!
I persisted but it was like trying to explain heaven to bears.

I didn't bother asking for a refund. They'd have asked for more money and told me that was the same as a refund.

I didn't know prey sold broth!

Trainspotting1984 · 25/01/2017 21:03

Pret

Misovexed · 25/01/2017 21:08

It's a small cup for £1.99.

And they no longer sell miso (as far as I can tell).

I would say it is a form of broth.

Broth - definition of broth by The Free Dictionary
www.thefreedictionary.com › broth
The water in which meat, fish, or vegetables have been boiled; stock. 2. A thin, clear soup based on stock, to which rice, barley, meat, or vegetables may be added. 3. A liquid containing nutrients for culturing microorganisms: inoculated the broth with bacteria.

Hassled · 25/01/2017 21:10

You're right to be outraged, but you're wrong to have made me ponder explaining heaven to bears.

PickAChew · 25/01/2017 21:11

They had signs up for Miso, last time I was in.

Then again, they still have Chamomile tea on the wall but no longer sell it :(

What sort of broth would they be selling? They wouldn't be able to serve bone broth interchangeably with miso because vegetarians.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/01/2017 21:13

They sell both if you check their menu on line. The are not the same thing so the staff were wrong.

Misovexed · 25/01/2017 21:13

Miso might be a form of broth.
But broth is NOT a form of miso.

OP posts:
PickAChew · 25/01/2017 21:14

Then again, their miso isn't veggie, anyhow!

Their broth is definitely a meaty broth, though

Crispbutty · 25/01/2017 21:14

If you google miso broth it exists Confused

Misovexed · 25/01/2017 21:14

Where I work they sell miso and broth & only have veg and nonveg versions of miso.

LaContessaDiPlump · 25/01/2017 21:16

I like your style op, but am saddened to hear Pret miso is not veggie Sad

Huldra · 25/01/2017 21:20

Watch out for miso sachets and paste in supermarkets too, most aren't veggie.

PickAChew · 25/01/2017 21:20

Well the picture with the veggie miso is of a broth cup, so I can see where the confusion might lie, now

Eatingcheeseontoast · 25/01/2017 21:21

Heaven to bears...god that's good.

Misovexed · 25/01/2017 21:28

Glad you like it but I didn't coin it, sadly.

Sums up our conversation perfectly though. Both sides utterly baffled by the other.

SpiritedLondon · 25/01/2017 21:34

Loving this first world problem. 😉. Surely a broth is any thin style soup.....it's not automatically made from bones (unless it's obviously a bone broth.)

Misovexed · 25/01/2017 21:38

How is it a first world problem? I order one thing in a food outlet and they give me something different. That could occur the world over, regardless of income and would likely make the customer unhappy.

OP posts:
KoalaDownUnder · 25/01/2017 21:38

I didn't bother asking for a refund. They'd have asked for more money and told me that was the same as a refund.

Grin

You are right and they are wrong.

Misovexed · 25/01/2017 21:40

And to be clear I didn't order broth. I ordered miso.

I'm starting to think it's me.

Am I a post-truth snowflake?!

OP posts:
Misovexed · 25/01/2017 21:41

Thank you Koala.

That's all I needed to hear.

OP posts:
Misovexed · 25/01/2017 21:46

This could be a new MN game.
Think of a thing then match it to its post-truth incarnation.

Miso = beef broth
Snowflake = lump of coal

POTUS = (your turn). Or is that too easy?

ILoveDolly · 25/01/2017 21:47

I love "explaining heaven to bears"
I also love miso and I would have got the rage if someone tried to give me broth instead. No. They ABU

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 25/01/2017 21:49

I'm sorry for your miso misery (miso-ry?) but can you please tell me if Pret still sell their delicious chocolate mousse?
