AIBU Pret staff say miso and broth are the same thing. I say post-truth, alternative fact rubbish!

Two very patronising staff in Pret tried to tell me that the broth they gave me when I ordered miso was miso and/or the same as miso. I pointed out miso is fermented soy beans and broth is boiled bones and they said 'yes! It's the same'.
WTF?!
I persisted but it was like trying to explain heaven to bears.

I didn't bother asking for a refund. They'd have asked for more money and told me that was the same as a refund.

Miso is a paste. It needs to be mixed with a stock/broth to become miso soup.

Misovexed · 25/01/2017 21:54

Sorry Bunty, no idea, I was in too much of a rush to order a yoghurt and find out what the mousse is like.

Pret no longer do miso?!

Brexit, Trump, and now this. What will be the fourth horseman of the apocalypse?

cries and rocks in the corner

Wish pret would say what ingredients are in bone broth. I can't have onion or garlic but at my local pret they say that they aren't sure what's in it

PickAChew · 25/01/2017 23:33

I'd be guessing at onion, carrot, celery and possibly leek as a minimum in the "vegetable extracts" Bloomed.

I've been enjoying the Pret's Hot rack, this winter. Went in before the soups went out, a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised that the bean pot was as far removed from Heinz as you could imagine! (Definitely had onion in!)

caroldecker · 25/01/2017 23:34

Bloomed Ingredients here. Would assume vegetable extract may contain onions.

My pret does Miso (v) and bone broth. Surely they all do the same? Confused

Shallishanti · 25/01/2017 23:39

did you just make up explaining heaven to bears OP? or is that a thing?
I think you may be a genius
YADNBU, I'd be on to the council about this, and as for non vegetarian miso, my mind is totally boggled.

PickAChew · 25/01/2017 23:43

It's got fish sauce in, Shalli - perfectly authentic as a variant, but obvs not veggie!

TheSpottedZebra · 25/01/2017 23:55

Most miso (soup) isn't veggie -it has dashi in it, which is a stock made of seaweed and fish flakes.

Look what popped up on my FB feed...

Thanks Pick and Carol. Probably can't risk it.
