The man next to me on the train is eating walnuts by using them to scoop butter from a whole block which he has just opened. AIBU to find this odd?

OP posts:
RubyWinterstorm · 26/01/2017 12:38

for some reason the OP made me laugh out loud

Some kind of vegetarian new years no-carb fad diet?!

SasBel · 26/01/2017 12:39

Not place marking whilst I rush out to buy walnuts. Slams door and forgets purse on way out

QuimReaper · 26/01/2017 12:44

I want a fat bomb now Shock

I'm guessing you can't just incorporate them into any diet and lose weight though...

KlingybunFistelvase · 26/01/2017 12:46

Unsalted butter with walnuts is wrong. It has to be salted. So no YANBU.

GrumpyOldBag · 26/01/2017 12:58

I have been known to make a sort of sandwich from large cornflakes and butter. So not all that weird. Blush

MusicToMyEars800 · 26/01/2017 13:07

I like butter but don't think I'd dip walnuts in it though, I do sometimes use it as a cold dip for my cold new potatoes lol, also with ham sometimes i like to spread mayo on to slices of it, roll it up and eat it Grin

amusedbush · 26/01/2017 13:09

Definitely sounds like Atkins! I ate some bizarre but delicious things on that diet!

MsStricty · 26/01/2017 13:14

I was thinking ketogenic diet too.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 26/01/2017 13:22

I was imagining he was all prim and proper and fussy, like Mr Bean. The suggestion upthread that he could be a bodybuilder in a cutting phase has thrown my mental image out completely. OP please come back and tell us about his physique Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 26/01/2017 13:23

As I'm at home having my lunchbreak I tried, in the spirit of scientific inquiry- hm, well, ok I suppose, but not nearly as nice as a walnut eaten simultaneously with a Cheddar. Grin

LaContessaDiPlump · 26/01/2017 13:24

Back when I wasn't vegan I'd have happily eaten cold salted butter by the cube. Sigh.

OverTheGardenGate · 26/01/2017 13:24

The size of my arse

I thought that was very funny.
Just showing my appreciation.

amusedbush · 26/01/2017 13:32

I'll see your mayo and raise you a spoonful of coleslaw rolled up in a bit of ham Grin

Perhaps he Is on the spectrum and only likes or eats certain foods.

PotatoWaffleCob actually I think you'll find it makes food 501.87% better to be precise. Plus is versatile in a whole range of other applications.

In butter we trust.

banivani · 26/01/2017 21:03

Who tried it? I forgot and am eating Nutella now.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 26/01/2017 21:12

I went to buy butter and after this thread just looked at all the wonderful butters - I've only bought Kerrygold for regular use and Lurpak unsalted for baking.

Are the posh looking French butters tasty? And the Swedish whey butter?

Does anyone have a favourite to recommend? I want to try more butter. It can only be a good thing to do.

banivani · 26/01/2017 21:15

I am Swedish and I don't know what whey butter is?

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 26/01/2017 21:19

Fjällbrynt Original whey butter. The Swedish classic Messmör, with a hint of vanilla.

450g.

Ingredients:
Whey (from cow's milk), sugar (5%), butter, vanillin aroma, iron.

gunsandbanjos · 26/01/2017 21:47

That butter sounds weird? Sugar and vanilla in it? What's it for?

BathshebaDarkstone · 26/01/2017 22:24

My dad spreads butter on weetabix and eats it. He's a bit odd though.
Butter in coffee sounds a little odd but I might try it tomorrow if it helps with weight loss.....
Mind you I love Very Thickly Spread butter on cream crackers, got to be proper salted butter though, none of this unsalted rubbish

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 26/01/2017 22:35

I don't know gunsandbanjos I'm not Swedish and the Swedish person apparently hasn't heard of it!

I'd put it on toast or even fresh bread for a sweet snack maybe. I make blueberry whole meal loaf that it might be good on. Maybe on a home made muffin (I tend not to make them very sweet)

I guess you could even eat it raw with walnuts if you like them sweet - I like pecans sweet.

banivani · 26/01/2017 23:10

Oh messmör! Of course then I understand. Yeah that's normal. 😉😎 nothing buttery about it really, you'll be disappointed. Texture closer to condensed milk, very much an acquired taste. I go through phases of craving it. A few christmases ago it was all the rage to add it to truffles, as an interesting ... thing. Keep meaning to try that.

It's sugary but otherwise low fat and quite nutritious I believe. You should try. For the novelty! But it's nothing like butter.
