The man next to me on the train is eating walnuts by using them to scoop butter from a whole block which he has just opened. AIBU to find this odd?

ChickenVindaloo: yes the sharp knife worried me too!

BakeOffBiscuits: yep he's finished and moved onto watching iplayer with headphones so no opportunity to discuss his unusual diet. It definitely wasn't almond butter...I think it was Waitrose essential unsalted.

This was so much more entertaining than what I expected from the title!

My friend used to eat cold lumps of butter on cold boiled eggs! Confused Each to their own!

BakeOffBiscuits · 25/01/2017 20:49

Unsalted butter?

Is he French?

KlingybunFistelvase · 25/01/2017 21:10

Paleo is usually no cheese isn't it? Can't be paleo! He's having blue cheese see? Way too involved

gunsandbanjos · 25/01/2017 21:15

Sounds like LCHF diet, I follow it too. I however don't scoop up clods of butter with nuts!

HerBluebiro · 26/01/2017 09:23

He's braver than I. I can't face going bullet proof. Just weirds me out. I keep meaning to try butter in my coffee, but just don't see it tasting nice!

gunsandbanjos · 26/01/2017 10:29

Double cream in your coffee is delicious though.

LaurieMarlow · 26/01/2017 10:30

Sounds delicious

GoesDownLikeACupOfColdSick · 26/01/2017 10:31

walnuts and blue cheese = fuck yeah

walnuts and butter = fuck off

BathshebaDarkstone · 26/01/2017 10:31

YANBU. Bleurgh.

SmileEachDay · 26/01/2017 10:38

Well now I know it's Waitrose it's obviously fine

🙄 Drip feed, OP tuts

KlingybunFistelvase · 26/01/2017 10:39

I've had bulletproof coffee a few times and it's actually a lot nicer than I imagined. I had to do one with all olive oil once as i'd run out of everything else and it was ok too.

TobleroneBoo · 26/01/2017 10:41

Thick butter on bread, then use crisps to scrape off the excess butter one by one, then have a crisp sandwich!

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 26/01/2017 10:43

'Atkins is so five years ago'

More like 15 years ago! Grin

SmileEachDay · 26/01/2017 10:45

I just googled bulletproof coffee.

It sounds odd. And WTF is brain octane?

KlingybunFistelvase · 26/01/2017 10:53

Lchf is the new name for what is basically Atkins (I think). I did 'Atkins' about 17 years ago and lchf last year. Couldn't tell you the difference!

Allalonenow · 26/01/2017 10:55

Who eats unsalted butter?

MitzyLeFrouf · 26/01/2017 10:57

Deviants.

It's not so much that's it a weird thing to eat (although it is a bit) as that it's a weird thing to eat on a train. I mean, it's hardly a convenient snack, is it? That butter's going to be a in rotten state if he carries it around all day with him.

Having said that, I was once on a train journey with a woman who opened up a packet of smoked mackerel and started eating that. Whole carriage honked of fish for the entire journey. Rank. Also she ate it with her fingers so she had horrible greasy fish hands

My weirdest train snack spot ever was a woman on the Tube who was taking massive bites out of a whole iceberg lettuce, as if it was a giant apple, and also drinking from a bottle of sunflower oil. However, she was also wearing a dressing-grown and talking to herself, so her lettuce and cooking oil diet was the least of her problems really.

NotdeadyetBOING · 26/01/2017 12:25

Definitely a low-carber. And a hardcore one at that…..

VerbenaGirl · 26/01/2017 12:27

The OP did make me laugh! I think I'd have to ask him if it was a good combo!! (Although, I suspect I wouldn't enjoy it - as I like butter on things where it can go all melty)

banivani · 26/01/2017 12:28

Can't wait to hear back from someone who is brave enough to try this combination at home. I could try myself, but not until about eight o'clock tonight. Go on.

dolly omg. I never see weirdos like that on the train. Only people with their feet on the seats and the odd drunk.

seafoodeatit · 26/01/2017 12:29

I hope the butter was in a fancy dish! what a strange thing to eat on a train.

OrchidaceousRose · 26/01/2017 12:31

Primal is a variant of paleo that includes high-fat dairy Klingy. Could be that.

Lots of primal/paleo people using "fat bomb" meals to kick start/supercharge weightloss. A fat bomb meal could be cream cheese wrapped in streaky bacon, cacao and coconut oil cups, macadamias, a bulletproof coffee, so the walnuts and butter and blue cheese meal could easily fit the bill. Primals/paleos also use a lot of coconut oil!

Is he very muscular? He could also be a body builder in a cutting phase, after bulking up over winter.
