The man next to me on the train is eating walnuts by using them to scoop butter from a whole block which he has just opened. AIBU to find this odd?

Ketogenic diet for epilepsy?

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 25/01/2017 19:55

He's probably writing his own thread about the strange woman next to him who's sniffing him and looking longingly at his butter.

Olympiathequeen · 25/01/2017 19:56

On a train! People used to just read the paper in my train riding days.

NameChanger22 · 25/01/2017 20:04

Nuts fried in butter and sprinkled with sugar are nice. But raw? - no way.

blankmind · 25/01/2017 20:09

If he smells of coconut, maybe he uses coconut oil as a moisturiser or a hair treatment.

I'd have to ask him about the food and scrounge a solo walnut, don't like the other stuff.

c3pu · 25/01/2017 20:10

This is why I don't use public transport.

Janey50 · 25/01/2017 20:11

It's not so much what he's eating, but where..... On a TRAIN? GrinShock

I used to have a friend who spread butter on Ham and just ate it like that 😷

PickledCauliflower · 25/01/2017 20:17

I would be too self conscious to eat like that on the train.
A packet of crisps or the like, yes - but anything like that seems way too private!

IRegretNothing · 25/01/2017 20:18

queenvomit Your phrasing makes it sound like that's the reason you arent friends anymore Grin

Kanga59 · 25/01/2017 20:19

He must be on a ketogenic diet! ask him..

kennycat · 25/01/2017 20:19

Maybe he's a food pioneer and is trying all sorts of weird combinations till he finds a winner. I don't think he's found it yet tho.
I remember Jamie Oliver telling us to try cheese sprinkled with coffee powder and honey. He said it was pukka, I tried it and it was. But what made him try it in the first place?! I think your man is experimenting.
I hope.

KlingybunFistelvase · 25/01/2017 20:21

My bet is that he has just had coconut oil in a bulletproof coffee! It's all falling into place!

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 25/01/2017 20:21

Any way you look at it, he's one greasy man.

Chloe84 · 25/01/2017 20:22

his arteries must be groaning.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 25/01/2017 20:22

Er, he's got a sharp knife with him on public transport?!!!

ActuallyThatsSUPREMECommander · 25/01/2017 20:23

Atkins is soooo five years ago. What your weirdo travelling companion is doing is Paleo (like Atkins but more expensive and inconvenient).

BakeOffBiscuits · 25/01/2017 20:26

I've heard of Almond Butter but not walnuts and a slab of butter.Hmm

Has he finished yet OP?

Gymnopedies · 25/01/2017 20:28

Paleo is raw stuff, not so new either.

OP, could it be spread cheese instead of butter? That would make slightly more sense.

TheFallenMadonna · 25/01/2017 20:30

I read about bulletproof coffee a while back. Coffee whizzed up with butter. With (IIRC) some added fatty acids or something. Mmmmm.

Farfromtheusual · 25/01/2017 20:31

Butter makes all food 500% better.

Name one thing that butter doesn't make better

YES!!! I have found my people! Grin

Farfromtheusual · 25/01/2017 20:33

queenvomit did we used to be friends?? 😂

picklemepopcorn · 25/01/2017 20:33

Coconut oil, butter, nuts, blue cheese... Definitely LCHF! blue cheese is antisocial though!

TheFallenMadonna · 25/01/2017 20:36

I think coffee might be one thing not improved by butter, to be honest. And I am an ardent fan of both. Separately.
