I have my driveway but the street I live in is quite long (has 3 postcodes) and there's always cars parked along the pavements.

I see it everywhere.

Who honestly has never parked on a pavement?

Why is it such an issue?

They don't do it near us as they get a ticket or keyed, whichever happens first.
Sometimes they get both and that's really funny.
Even better is if the wing mirror is done too Grin
It's inconsiderate and another example of entitled folk.

" I have a licence I don't currently drive. Most of my life I've used public transport"

Bully for you. Not smug are we Hmm

Atenco · 25/01/2017 17:40

Iamastonished so now people who use public transport are smug! Maybe the world needs more smug people then.

YouTheCat · 25/01/2017 18:15

Smug and proud. I couldn't give a shit.

Graphista · 25/01/2017 18:19

Not smug. Don't currently drive due to medication.

But as I said in my post I've lived in very rural locations, barring ill health, no reason most people currently using cars can't use public transport. Just requires a little organisation.

EveOnline2016 · 25/01/2017 18:19

I park on pavement but where I live the council filled in the grass verges and there is still loads of space left on the pavement for a triple side by side buggy.

tangerino · 25/01/2017 18:27

Where I live it's illegal to park on the pavement and you'll get towed if you try it, so when I go to places where people can park on the pavement, I find it really odd and entitled-seeming.

Why is that such a good thing? To purposely key someone's car? You clearly live in a shit area.

The attitude in the uk that having a car is somehow a human right is ridiculous. I have a licence I don't currently drive. Most of my life I've used public transport and as an army brat I've lived all over the country and mostly in out of the way places (though I've lived in cities too).

Go to Los Angeles where it's seen an embarrassing to have to get a bus.

I could get a return for a total 2 hour bus journey for $3.

I knew people that used their car to get to the next block. It would have taken 5 minutes.

Well we're not in LA plus that's insane! They're acting very entitled and environmentally unfriendly too.

picklemepopcorn · 26/01/2017 08:47

Particularly frustrating that parking on the pavement is seen as a helpful thing to do in order to make sure the road is not obstructed, regardless of the fact that the footpath is now obstructed.

Deathraystare · 26/01/2017 08:51

Why is it such an issue?

I understood pavements are for pedestrians. Also how do people in wheelchairs/pushchairs and the blind and /or handicapped get around selfish arseholes who park on the pavement???

ShowMePotatoSalad · 26/01/2017 08:54

The main reason I have a problem with it is that people in wheelchairs can't always get past parked cars, meaning they have to go in to the road to get round the car. And there aren't always sloped curbs so they have to find one before they can do that.

It's not a case of them being slightly inconvenienced. It's a massive barrier to people being able to go about their daily lives.

TheSultanofPingu · 26/01/2017 09:06

Cars parking on the pavement can be a danger to pedestrians. That's why many people have an issue with it. It forces people out onto the road who shouldn't have to be there and also damages pavements, making them dangerous.
It really shouldn't be difficult to understand. We have a little bit of space on either side (or sometimes only one side) of the road. Please let us use it safely.

Yokohamajojo · 26/01/2017 09:36

A parent at school got fined yesterday for doing it, it was a bad one as no one with a pram, scooter or wheelchair would have been able to get past without going on the road and at school pick up that is chaotic to say the least

QuinionsRainbow · 26/01/2017 11:13

parking on the pavement is seen as a helpful thing to do in order to make sure the road is not obstructed, regardless of the fact that the footpath is now obstructed.
Amen to that! Parking on the pavement rarely makes the available road space significantly wider, and even more rarely does it increase the road space to the extent that two vehicles can pass simultaneously. It just provides an excuse for inconsiderate entitled drivers to park at locations most convenient for them, regardless of the safety or convenience for others - pedestrians are road users too!
