To bloody love Madonna for doing this?

I've been watching the speeches from the Washington women's march today and have felt so inspired and uplifted by them, it's really given me hope, didn't know Madonna was going to be there and I don't want to take away anything from the other speakers as they've all been brilliant but I just wanted to say well done Madonna for being there and adding your voice ( and admittedly celebrity kudos and attention) to this amazing show of dissent, power and love.

I agree surferjet, this is why Americans voted DT, they were fed up of the liberal left running the country into the ground, with DT, they saw hope for a new and better country. If only white men voted for him, he would not get in, Women voted, so did, black and hispanic people. The hysteria of the left on social media lately on my Facebook, does them no favours, this is not the American people I know, its the white British females. It quite frankly is embarrassing.

PrettyBotanicals · 22/01/2017 19:40

The racialism, hypocrisy and gut-churning smugness of this march is foul.

Where the fuck were all these vocal selfie-taking Facebook posting women when there were true atrocities against girls in Nigeria? Philippine house maids? Saudi rape victims?

Or even acknowledging the sexual power abuses of Clinton and JFK?

Linking arms with thousands of likeminded women in pink hats, to protest against a yet-unproven claim that the rights of American women are under threat, does not a human rights protester make.

A bandwaggoning show off, yes.

A safety in numbers groupthink twerp, definitely.

I see no iconoclastic courage here.

And Madonna? A fighter for female equality and solidarity? Ho ho ho.

surferjet · 22/01/2017 19:51

Exactly Aeroflotgirl - loads of women voted for him, but these women are too stupid to vote apparently. That's sisterhood for you.

stubbornstains · 22/01/2017 20:31

I'm impressed by your passion for justice prettybotanicals. I'm sure you're the veteran of hundreds of marches condemning atrocities against girls in Nigeria, Philippine house maids and Saudi rape victims; perhaps you could tell me when the next march is on? I'm up for it!

Or, failing that, perhaps link to some useful campaign sites? TIA Wink

Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2017 20:40

I know super sisterhood when it suits them!

Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2017 20:44

My Ugandan friend, had live streaming of the inaugRation speech on her Facebook, changed her profile picture to Trump. So not just white men voted, people like my friend.

TheDayIBroke · 22/01/2017 20:47

How about these women march in support of freeing Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, and allowing her and her daughter to return to her husband. A worthy cause, surely?

EmeraldScorn · 22/01/2017 20:52

If only wealthy people would be as outraged when it came to tax evasion, homelessness, starvation, etc and I certainly feel no need to praise a person based on their bank balance, how many albums they've sold or what words of apparent wisdom they've publicly shared in yet another self serving and self promoting PR stunt.

People are very gullible!

SuburbanRhonda · 22/01/2017 20:57

Many of us have been lobbying for her release for months.

But if you're organising a march, do please start a thread and let us know when and where.

stubbornstains · 22/01/2017 21:01

I'm still waiting for these passionate campaigners for the rights of developing-world women to tell us what they're organising and how we can get involved rhonda Wink

BillSykesDog · 22/01/2017 21:07

Well as I've said, of course you couldn't march against the way women are treated in Saudi. Because exactly the same people who marched against Trump would probably have it stopped because it was terribly racist, culturally insensitive and Islamophobic to complain about women being viewed as objects of property and oppressed to the point where being locked to spend their lives in cages is okay.

And their complaints aren't idle either. They hound people out of their jobs and harass them. No matter how strongly people feel about those issues they won't protest them as it's too dangerous in the left wing created climate of fear.

Oh you are a card Bill. Cheered me right up on a chilly night. Please do tell me how precisely these terrible left wingers would stop you marching in favour of human rights? Grin.

stubbornstains · 22/01/2017 21:16

It's particularly ironic given that Jeremy Corbyn et al never stop banging on about the Saudis (and have actually gained some ground recently on blocking some British arms sales to Saudi Arabia).

SuburbanRhonda · 22/01/2017 21:17

You sound a bit paranoid tbh bill.

Fortnum · 22/01/2017 21:18

attention seeking cow ! celebs should stick to their Art and stop lecturing ! Same ref Meryl Streep - When hollywoods diverse are deported (which will never happen btw) They will be watching football and Mixed martial Arts - which are not the arts" - really ? MMA is probably the most diverse sport / pursuit / Art in the world. The UFC has combatants from The USA, Africa, Europe, Russia, Asia, The middle East, Australia, The Pacific Islands. The Current womans bantam weight champion is an out Lesbian who's girlfriend also practices in the sport. Fuck off with your condescending crap celebs !

stubbornstains · 22/01/2017 21:19

mmmmm'kay Hmm

stubbornstains · 22/01/2017 21:24

I'm getting a bit concerned about bill. She hasn't got back to us yet. I think (whispers) the lefties have got her Shock.

MuteButtonisOn · 22/01/2017 21:25

Like Hirsi Ali Rhonda? How very dare she be the wrong sort of feminist.

TheDayIBroke · 22/01/2017 21:38

SuburbanRhonda I am not organising a march. I have been doing other things with regards to Nazanin's release.

This anti-Trump March, masquerading as a Women's March, was a waste when it could have made a huge impact if they had marched for a worthy cause like Nazanin.

BillSykes again, excellent post. Unfortunately, some don't want to hear the truth.

HattiesBackpack · 22/01/2017 21:39

mothertruck..., Billsykes.., surferjet etc - (sorry I don't know how to bold)
you all have it spot on! I think you are absolutely right, and to be honest I'm so damn relived it's not just me!! I've been feeling really odd about these marches and you have all pinpointed exactly why - and I can't believe people are using words like 'courage' and 'inspirational' about any of this!
If you want to see what courage looks like check out the Kurdish Women's Army.

SuburbanRhonda · 22/01/2017 21:40

stubborn - I think you could be right. They're probably force-feeding her old copies of Marxism Today even as we speak!

stubbornstains · 22/01/2017 21:42

It's entirely possible to support both the Kurdish Womens' Army and yesterday's march, you know Hmm. As well as many other pro women causes globally.

SuburbanRhonda · 22/01/2017 21:43

SuburbanRhonda I am not organising a march.

But you're quite happy to criticise others who, like you, are also not organising a march and like you, are engaging in other forms of protest?

TheDayIBroke · 22/01/2017 22:08

HattiesBackpack precisely how I feel. How is it "courageous " to march at an anti-Trump/women's march and shout, swear, be plain vulgar, whilst damaging shops and property? How the hell is it inspirational to wear pink "pussy" hats (not all pussies are pink, either) and talk about demolishing the WH?

This march was neither courageous nor inspiring, it made a mockery of genuine marches. They achieved nothing. I felt quite sickened by it.
