To bloody love Madonna for doing this?

I've been watching the speeches from the Washington women's march today and have felt so inspired and uplifted by them, it's really given me hope, didn't know Madonna was going to be there and I don't want to take away anything from the other speakers as they've all been brilliant but I just wanted to say well done Madonna for being there and adding your voice ( and admittedly celebrity kudos and attention) to this amazing show of dissent, power and love.

acqua note publicity, yes bad publicity, devaluating the March, with all the others pussy referencing! They want to be taken seriously!

BillSykesDog · 22/01/2017 17:27

I assume one of the big reasons people aren't protesting against Rotherham is because if you organised a protest exactly the people who were on yesterday's march would be screaming 'raaaaaaacist' and hounding the organiser out of their job and home, harassing them and their family and organising violent counter protests.

And it's not like they really care about sexism. It's just a convenient stick to beat their political opponents with. Because of course they are prepared to turn a blind eye to Bill's unpleasant activities which go far beyond a few off colour comments, and Hillary's vileness to the same women. And the unions in this country have a terrible problem with sexual harassment, sexual discrimination and sexism. And despite all their posturing the Labour Party has a notoriously macho culture and hasn't even had one female permanent leader whilst those terrible regressive Tories have had two female PMs and a female Chancellor.

Basically it boils down to the fact that sexism is all fine and dandy if you belong to their favoured groups but if you're an opponent suddenly they're all hot and bothered about it.

Incidentally JFK, who is a democratic hero, had an appalling attitude to women even allowing for the different standards of the day. But he prevented nuclear Armageddon, abolished the federal death penalty, made huge strides forwards in civil rights, invested in public services and made moves to prevent nuclear proliferation.

But by today's standards he would have had the bum rush straight out the door. Although he was a democrat so they'd probably just look the other way.

MuteButtonisOn · 22/01/2017 17:42

Really well said Bill.

surferjet · 22/01/2017 17:44

Exactly BillSykesDog
Where were these women when young girls were being abused in Oldham?
Did they go out & march & scream?
Did they my arse.

TheDayIBroke · 22/01/2017 17:55

Madonna and her ilk have turned a serious March into a farce. She has achieved nothing by behaving like she does and using inflammatory speech.

Rosa Parks achieved more in that one act on the bus - more respect, more admiration, more action and ultimately change - than Madonna will ever do. Parks had grace, Madonna does not. What kind of woman promises BJs for votes? Disgusting!

SuburbanRhonda · 22/01/2017 17:55

Did they go out & march & scream?
Did they my arse.

How do you know what other women did to protest about Rotherham? Are you omniscient?

surferjet · 22/01/2017 17:56

Rotherham even.

surferjet · 22/01/2017 17:57

Did women march & protest about what was going on in Rotherham?
If they did I didn't hear about it.

notangelinajolie · 22/01/2017 17:58

Madonna needs to shut up and stop spouting absolute crap. As do lots of celebrities who seem to think they have some God given right to speak for others. Ummm what did she say? Lets blow up the White House. How can it ever be ok to say something like that? She needs arresting, not praising. Sick. She is an embarrassment to womankind as are lots of those women screaming and shrieking profanities' around the World yesterday. Not in my name thankyou. I am actually embarrassed to be a woman right now 😢

SuburbanRhonda · 22/01/2017 17:59

If they did I didn't hear about it.

Haha - brilliant!

Medeci · 22/01/2017 18:04

BillSykesDog - well put, great post.

Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2017 18:08

billsykes you have hit the nail on the head! Regarding Rosa Parks, I totally agree, that achieved so so much more, than anything could ever, Martin Luther King. Less is more!

surferjet · 22/01/2017 18:10

SuburbanRhonda
Which women's groups marched in protest about what was going on in Rotherham?
Genuine question because I honestly can't remember hearing anything happening at the time.

SuburbanRhonda · 22/01/2017 18:15

That's not what I found funny, surferjet.

It was your assertion that if you didn't hear about it, it clearly didn't happen.

surferjet · 22/01/2017 18:23

But these are the questions that never get answered & leave many people confused.

Why are 1000's of U.K. Women marching in protest against the American president but didn't march in protest about the abuse of women/children happening in their own country?

Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2017 18:36

We can see why Americans voted Trump, not only white American males, but women, black, white and Hispanic people. My Black African friends live Trump😬. Instead of seeing Hilary Clinton as the best of a bad bunch, they are seeing Trump as that. With Hilary they saw more of the same, a corrupt lying politician who cares about no one but Hilary.

TheDayIBroke · 22/01/2017 18:39

Billsykes an excellent post, thank you.

Aeroflotgirl yes, Rosa Parks didn't have to use profanities, didn't have to promise sex acts for votes, didn't have to say she considered using explosives, and she will go down in history as paving the way to change. Quite honestly, I don't know how history will judge Madonna.

Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2017 18:40

I agree surfer, and the treatment of abused women in the family court system, who just cares about the rights of abusive fathers, and not of the rights of children to be safe and well, and also putting the victim of domestic abuse first instead of the perp. That's what I woukd be marching for as my friends are going through this.,

Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2017 18:42

I agree Theday, Martin Luther King speech, "I have a Dream'.

Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2017 18:44

Both extremely powerful, and will remain prominent in history forever, unlike the likes of Madonna.

TheDayIBroke · 22/01/2017 19:06

Aeroflotgirl now that was a speech! And a lesson on how to speak and be heard. No need for rough speech or talk of BJs, just MLK talking and putting a vision in people's minds. No screaming, no baying, he just spoke from the heart.

And that, Madonna, is how you get heard, how you get your message across, how you will be remembered.

BillSykesDog · 22/01/2017 19:14

Actually I live near Rotherham and know one of the victims and their family. There have been EDL marches which obviously nobody including the victims want. There was a very small protest organised by a (male) Muslim youth group but nothing else. The left were silent over the incidents because they allowed them to happen and covered them up and silenced whistleblowers with accusations of racism.

Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2017 19:23

I totally agree, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther King, both extremely intelligent and influential people, nailing it with their words and simple yet powerful actions. No swearing, showing off, hogging the limelight. Both humble and influential people.

Aeroflotgirl · 22/01/2017 19:26

Madonna et al just makes themselves look stupid! The same with those marching without a purpose or for the wrong reasons. They have used the words pussy, more than DT has, in their protests. It devalues and demeans it. I don't think its a march only for women, but for all, for the equal rights for all!

surferjet · 22/01/2017 19:30

The left were silent over the incidents because they allowed them to happen and covered them up and silenced whistleblowers with accusations of racism

But they're quite happy to (hysterically) protest about a rich white man 1000's of miles away.

Who can take them seriously?
No one.
