So, I'm on a Facebook forum. Someone is going through a divorce and is finding it hard.

Someone else said 'You are going to be okay! Divorce is tough but it won't last.'

I REALLLLLY want to ask what kind of crappy divorce lawyer did she have that it didn't last. The whole point of divorce is that it is permanent.

But I can't. Because someone is going through a hard time.

But I have a pent up response that needs to be posted, so iabu and posting it here instead.

Sorry to waste your time!

I doubt they meant the divorce wouldn't last but the feelings associated and surrounding it would eventually disperse. I think you're misinterpreting it.

AWaspOnAWindowInAHeatwave · 21/01/2017 10:55

If divorce didn't last, I'm sure a lot fewer people would be arsed with the whole process.

stitchglitched · 21/01/2017 10:55

I assume they meant the process of divorcing and the tough time, sadness etc surrounding it won't last.

ChuckSnowballs · 21/01/2017 10:56

'Of course Divorce lasts - that's the beauty of it'

PenguinsandPebbles · 21/01/2017 10:56

Your reading it wrong, it's regarding the feelings not the actually divorce

ilovegin112 · 21/01/2017 10:56

I'm presuming the op person meant that the feeling tough and hard won't be forever not that the divorce isn't permanent

ilovegin112 · 21/01/2017 10:57

Sorry crossed post due to my slow typing

TheNewSchmoo · 21/01/2017 10:58

I think you know what is meant, try being a bit more supportive of someone having a hard time rather than correcting the grammar of others who are.

RainbowChasing · 21/01/2017 10:59

The tough, difficult times won't last. It's badly worded but clear what was meant.

Casmama · 21/01/2017 10:59

I think the op realises what they meant but just had a sarcastic response that needed venting somewhere

redexpat · 21/01/2017 11:02

Grin Thats one of those thoughts you can think but probably should not express to anyone.

Oysterbabe · 21/01/2017 11:02

It's obvious what they meant, stop being a dick.

BewtySkoolDropowt · 21/01/2017 11:04

Of course I knew what they meant! And the whole point of posting here was so that I didn't make light on the actual post itself.

Dear me, do I really come across as that dim?

Sorry - my post was what I'd suggest as a response to the FB post - I had gathered you didn't take the FB post literally.

Magzmarsh · 21/01/2017 11:07

Well now you know how the author of the FB post would have felt if you had said something. Not very nice is it?

dowhatnow · 21/01/2017 11:08

Yep, you came across as that dim Grin

BewtySkoolDropowt · 21/01/2017 11:08

Awasp, I got that, :) cas and redexpat got it too, thanks guys :)

Magz, it's pretty nice actually. I like a laugh, and this amused me.

Yes

BewtySkoolDropowt · 21/01/2017 11:11

Pot.. Kettle... Grin

That's you told then. How dare you have a terribly inappropriate response pop into your head and refrain from actually responding, and then tell us about it.

You'd better get over to the thread where everyone's telling dirty secrets, it'll cheer you right up :)

Magzmarsh · 21/01/2017 11:21

Fair enough op Grin

Magzmarsh · 21/01/2017 11:22

....wait there's a dirty secret thread???? Confused

chocolateworshipper · 21/01/2017 11:28

I agree that it is very poorly worded

LucklessMonster · 21/01/2017 11:31

Dear me, do I really come across as that dim?

You did actually, but that's the problem with reading text without expressions and body language Grin

I feel your pain. I often want to post the first smart-arse thing that comes to mind.
