To think putting on pyjamas after swimming class at 5pm is a bit weird?

My DD has a swim lesson 4:15 to 4:45 and other children change into their pjs after their class. Is this the new thing? Never seen it before. Is this a little early to be in pjs?

When I've been caught in the rain running I've driven home in my undies

I don't think it's weird at all. My 5 and 8 year olds go to bed at 6pm. If I showered them after swimming and got them dressed then we would get home at about 5:20. They would have their tea and go upstairs for story and bed. What's the point in having to get them into the pyjamas when they get home when I could do it straight after their shower. It's not something I've ever done because I've never had evening swimming lessons (they barely manage to stay awake until 6 so adding in an activity would not go down well). I would imagine that's the reason others do it- I don't see the issue if you're going straight home, it just seems the practical thing to do. Do you were going shopping or something after then I would find it weird

Wearing only a leotard outside in January. Don't think I need to explain that

what even if it's 10 seconds to the car in the car park outside?

Kids often don't feel the cold anyway.

DD used to go to a swim class which was 6-6.45, and there was a class ahead of hers changing too.

Often, the smaller DCs in the earlier class (finished at 6pm) would get into pjs rather than back into clothes. They were cosy, easier to get on when damp, and saved changing again in an hour or so. Often, parents were dealing with organizing 2 wet DCs at the same time.

After DDs class, at 6.45, quite a lot got into PJs - having arrived in school uniforms. They were going straight into cars to go home. DD tried it a few times as she loves her fleece pjs in winter, but preferred to get back into her tracksuit (no school uniform so wears tracksuits always).

I can understand getting into pjs at that hour of night - if you are now nice and clean from the shower, and it's close enough to bedtime anyway so would be changing again in less than 2 hours. If the child is comfortable that way, and you are going home by car. Most had slippers and dressing gowns as well, under their coats.

But, as I said, DD wasn't a huge fan herself and, between a combination of using taxis with the au pair, or me bringing her and collecting her in the car, she was just happier in her tracksuits. But she was the kid who tended to get herself organized, and changed into togs, and back again, without any need for adult help (a classmate was in the earlier class and the DM used to comment to me about it - that the AP would be outside (DD and the AP had come to that agreement) and DD would rock in, find a tiny space, get herself into her gear and head for the pool with no bother - while there were DCs quite a bit older needing a LOT of parental assistance.

We do this. Swimming is 3.45-4.15 and a mad rush. Both kids in the pool at the same time but one has additional needs (wheelchair user) so both require help dressing and it saves the faff of uniform for me. Both are showered before getting dry. Then we get home 4.50ish, dinner and reading before bed at 7. It works perfectly and IDGAF whether people look at us weird.

My DD would just wear her leotard in January. She does have a hoody but coming out of gymnastics she is hot and sweaty and doesn't want it.

Really? Mine has a proper shower and hair wash. Puts on clean pjs and a onesie to keep them warm. It isn't lazy or weird or lax - it is bloody sensible.
Obviously if we were going out I wouldn't do this. But we don't. So I do!
