To think putting on pyjamas after swimming class at 5pm is a bit weird?

My DD has a swim lesson 4:15 to 4:45 and other children change into their pjs after their class. Is this the new thing? Never seen it before. Is this a little early to be in pjs?

Most people are just going from the pool to the car. I wouldn't walk around with children in pyjamas but I'd carry a toddler or preschooler out

Lottieloves · 22/01/2017 18:57

I do exactly the same with my kids, dd8 and ds 6. They have a lesson 3.45 till 4.15. They have a shower after swimming, I wash and condition hair, then put pjs on both. Saves putting dirty school uniform back on, they get into the car straight home then have dinner. If they get messy at dinner, they get new pj's. See so many mums doing, so much easier to put them on. Think it's a good idea.

Mine finish swimming at 5.30 and 6pm, showered and into pjs. They're only going home in the car so with a hoodie over the pjs they are warm and cosy and means one less thing to do when we get home. All but one of the children do the same. Why put dirty school uniform back on when you're clean and only going home for tea before bed?

EmmaPoppysMum · 22/01/2017 19:11

We do that as do lots of parents after my DD swimming class. Why is it weird? Weirder to get into dirty uniform after a shower surely? More clever than lazy imo!

hazeyjane · 22/01/2017 19:12

Have just done this today. Makes for an easier Sunday bedtime - showered shampooed eczema creams PJs hoodies home for a film before bed.

Boomerangs · 22/01/2017 19:15

I hate the idea of the pyjamas getting contaminated with the dirt of the public areas or the pyjama bottoms dragging on the floor and then getting into bed with dirty clothing 😳
We don't shower at swimming instead go home and I have a shower dd has a bath

It's sheer laziness to do anything other it takes seconds to change into pyjamas

Tinkerbec · 22/01/2017 19:17

They all put onesies on here too. Saves faffing in a hot packed changing room with sticky clothes.

hazeyjane · 22/01/2017 19:20

....it takes seconds to change into pyjamas

You've never met ds......

We've never had a soggy pj bottom.

exbloomer1 · 22/01/2017 19:26

I actually think it's not your business or anyone else's for that matter .

DameSquashalot · 22/01/2017 19:27

Makes perfect sense to me.

Are you seeing a professionals to deal with these issues? Contaminated, fgs. Pyjama bottoms don't drag along the floor unless they are several sizes too big. And clothing doesn't get "dirty" in a couple of hours before bed, or because they went outside in the air.

Some of you people are quite mad.

I do this with my nearly 4 year old!

I am not at all a pj person, but I noticed kids going home from swimming in PJs and onesies and decided tongue it out. I bought a set of fleecey jimjams for DD (6 then) to put on after swimming - she wears vest and pants then the PJs then her coat and boots. They are not for sleeping in. They are so much quicker and easier to put onto a cold damp body than clothes, and she can just snuggle up and relax when we get home while I get her dinner ready. I would not have her or myself going around town (or at home!) in nightwear, but after late afternoon swimming in the winter they are a great option.

Superwomaninmysparetime · 22/01/2017 19:35

I think it's a sensible thing to do.. my 7 and 8yo DDs finish their swim class at 6pm and we have always showered/washed hair and put clean pjs on after swim class...better for me with one less thing to do and better for DDs being in clean pjs than putting back on they clothes they arrived in..Grin

DebbieDownersGiveItARest · 22/01/2017 19:47

not read thread Grin I look at parents putting pjs onto their dc after our swim class with longing, so much easier than wrestling later - we cant as we walk.

bookeatingboy · 22/01/2017 19:53

I did this when mine were younger (as did most of the other mums) why wouldn't you. Shower and hair wash after swimming, then straight into clean onsie or pj's. In winter would be a fleecy onsie. Quick walk to car and home, all ready for bed.

Why would you shower your child and put dirty school clothes back on, to then go home, wear for possible another hour then get ready for bed.

Craigie · 22/01/2017 19:58

Weird.

Thissideof40 · 22/01/2017 20:05

It's quite common at our pool. I don't put my kids in pjs though. They both think it's weird.

FearandLoathinginLasVegas · 22/01/2017 20:08

I do it. It saves so much time.

Rainydayspending · 22/01/2017 20:12

Lots do. But we have dinner after swimming lessons and I just know that they're potentially going to spill something (usually a soup night after swimming to save time with hungry swimmers).
I do have a zip up hoodie onesie for my toddler post swimming. I bought it for thst purpose though. (Swim 3 times a week after which he naps).

Lou1878 · 22/01/2017 20:12

My ds has just turned 4. His lesson is 4.30 til 5, after a full day at pre school. I always put his pjs on afterwards- he has a shower obvs. We go home, have tea, watch the simpsons then it's story & bed time. He's shattered by 7pm. Why faff about changing clothes?
In summer hols he puts shorts & t shirt and clean undies back on as later bedtime (unless he's really tired)
We are straight in the car then home. And he's 4, it's not lazy.

WelliesAndPyjamas · 22/01/2017 20:17

I've seen this a lot but could never bring myself to allow the dc to do it, whatever their age. I even feel all wrong about letting dc walk to school in pyjamas for one of those fundraising days! 😄 The most I was ever able to do was have a toddler in pyjamas but well covered up out of sight in a pushchair!

I can't quite explain why it bugs me so much. The best I can come up with is that my grandmother (who was very kind and laid back btw) would never have done it and I like to keep up her high standards 😄
