To think putting on pyjamas after swimming class at 5pm is a bit weird?

My DD has a swim lesson 4:15 to 4:45 and other children change into their pjs after their class. Is this the new thing? Never seen it before. Is this a little early to be in pjs?

Meanwhile I think the parents at gymnastics who can't be arsed to get their kids changed at all and walk them out in leotards and school shoes are just lazy and negligent.

I both drop my DD at dance and pick her up in her dance clothing. I must be super negligent!

everythingis · 23/01/2017 12:14

Wearing only a leotard outside in January. Don't think I need to explain that

GoLightlyHollie · 23/01/2017 12:17

Hmm, no. Pjs are for home. Shove a pair of trakkies and hoodie on the kids and then take them home in PJs.
For me, you get into bed in PJs, at most you might wear them around the house. You don't wear them outdoors.
I'm actually surprised at how many people seem to do it. Especially for a mumsnet crowd..

hazeyjane · 23/01/2017 12:19

Also, What a lot to have to carry to swimming pool,
not only do you need costumes, towels, hair brushes, shampoos, even conditioner, you also need to carry a whole change of clothes, and then make sure they dont drop on the wet floor

each child has a swim bag with - towel, goggles, costume, pair of pyjamas, small bottle of shower gel and dd2 has eczema cream. They are 10, 9 and 6 and there has never been a dropped soggy clothes incident!

The 10 and 9 year old also do dance, and walk down in their leotards, tights and a hoodie - they would be mortified at the thought of getting changed there!

treaclesoda · 23/01/2017 12:19

ooh, I'm negligent too.

There are no changing facilities at the gym my daughter goes to. Every single child in the class arrives in their leotard and shoes and leaves in their leotard and shoes. There must be 30 sets of negligent parents per hour at her club.

NerrSnerr · 23/01/2017 12:20

Everything if they are literally going from the car park to inside the gym. I assume it's maximum 200 metres. If they had to walk 2 miles home in January I agree but to the car?

This morning I carried my daughter into nursery and didn't put her coat on. It must have been 10 metres from car to door. Wonder if they have reported me?

what the blee blah is that supposed to mean?

SoupDragon · 23/01/2017 12:21

So, what you are actually complaining about is simply that they don't have a coat when it is cold, nothing else...?

tobecontinued2000 · 23/01/2017 12:22

I do this, it makes it so much easier and means I don't need to find another set of clean clothes after my son has got out of the shower after swimming.

hazeyjane · 23/01/2017 12:23

dds wear leotard, tights, boots, bobble hat and hoodie - plenty warm enough for a walk to the end of the road.

everythingis · 23/01/2017 12:24

Golightly - agree. This. I wouldn't let my dc out in their nighties

Who is talking about nighties?!

Personally I won't let any of my children go outside unless they are wearing one of these knitted suits. Anything else is frankly neglectful

norma I have one bag - a small reusable from the supermarket

It has - 3 in 1 wash, a brush, goggles, swim suit, towel PJ's and a plastic bag in it - DD wears her dressing gown - we put dirty clothes in the plastic bag along with the towel and swim suit - the contents are them emptied straight into the washing machine - said bag is neither rammed or heavy

ghostyslovesheets · 23/01/2017 12:45

or maybe this to keep all those awful germs away

Nicolajane83 · 23/01/2017 15:19

Yep we do this too. We don't get home from swimming until 5.45 so she showers and puts pjs and onesie on at the pool. Then we get home there's no need for bath time and getting changed again, and we have extra time for reading getting a game out etc..
lots of kids do this at our pool. Although we don't in the summer! Easier for a shower the a dress and flip flops when it's not cold!

everythingis · 23/01/2017 16:17

Families did this when we were at virgin active. They brushed the kids teeth and everything in the changing rooms.

NataliaOsipova · 23/01/2017 16:37

Interesting how heated this is getting! I always take a sweatshirt and leggings for mine to change into, as I only like to see nightwear on me/mine at home and not after 11.30am. But that's just me and I'm quite sure others would think I'm weird for that. Wouldn't bother me in the slightest what anyone else does (unless, going back to a previous thread, they'd asked me round for a Christmas drink at 4pm, in which case I'd probably hope they weren't secret swingers and that I'd got the wrong end of the stick....)

animals...... no wonder this world is going to hell in a handcart........whatever happened to standards.....bring back the days when leaving the house without a titfer and spats was a hanging offence.......what next, shitting in the corner of the changing rooms......blurble.....

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 23/01/2017 19:59

But what about grown ups after swimming? Would it be ok if I have a shower and hair wash after my swim and then drive home in my pjs? It's a genuine dilemma, I'm v tempted to do it but somethings stopping me!

user1484317265 · 23/01/2017 21:34

I wouldn't notice or care if you did. Some of these gobshites would judge you, but do you care?

CMOTDibbler · 23/01/2017 21:40

I wouldn't care either - I drive home with my hair in its turban and minimal dressing under my coat. When I go open water swimming I peel my wetsuit etc off under my changing robe in a car park and then drive home like that Grin

m0therofdragons · 23/01/2017 23:32

My dc don't own "trackies" but they love their frozen onesies that have hoods and are far too warm to sleep in. Perfect for after swimming before bath and clean night clothes and saves faff of school blouses and tights.
