Curious. How much does your DH (or DW!) make in order for you to stay at home and not be skint at the end of the month? I don't know how couples do it!

American women have 6 weeks of maternity leave. Millions of them go back to work a few weeks after having babies.

People who don't spend many years studying aren't "not willing" they are often not afforded the opportunity.

And I can assure you that the millions of women in the US who go straight back to work after child birth aren't all high earners. Babies are put into nursery (full time childcare) from 4 weeks old. Sometimes younger.

No it is not 47%, you get the same free tax allowance as everyone else

That's not correct, you lose it entirely over £150k

You do lose the allowance, Ivana is correct.

£80k plus bonus. We live in London.

Being a higher earner and high rate tax payer does not mean you necessarily work harder than a lower earner. If someone goes back to work a couple of weeks after having a baby (when they didn't have to financially) they are stupid not clever!

I earn approx £35k a year so Dh can be a SAHP. Does that count?
