AIBU to think I need to report this? Or that I might lose job?

I've found out recently that a few people in my company do drugs.

Not at work, obviously, but they do it regularly outside of work. If they have done it outside of work, then I wouldn't know about it.

One of these people is a very very close friend, and it's no secret that we are good friends

Do I need to report? Drugs are strictly forbidden in our employee contracts. If it came to be known that I knew, and didn't say anything, I might get into trouble...

Part of me thinks that it's off work premises so it's none of my business

Thank you Lnd. no need to report it.

The point is OP asked. MN overwhelmingly replied that there was no evidence and to leave it. OP has argued and squirmed to put over reasons why she should get her little thrill by reporting.

OP you could wreck a career and a life of someone on your desire for drama. Anxiety would be no defence for doing so.

Suppose someone reported YOU for malicious reporting and slanderous career limiting accusations , based on a suspicion you might. You hadn't. But you might. .... but in your world that's enough is it?

At a general level, risk-taking and ignoring of warnings, poor judgement in financial trading may be related to risk taking/drug use.

Drug-induced bravado could be partly to blame for the reckless deals that lead to the financial crisis

The OP is right to be worried

a very very close friend

PrincessCarrieFisher, go directly to the person concerned

"I'm not judging you, but this is starting to affect your performance at work

I suspect other people are noticing it

Let's try and get this sorted out before anyone reports it"

I work in financial services and also have to declare trading accounts to our compliance department.

The reason is because the company has to prove to the FCA and SEC (US authority) that they have proper checks and balances in place to to prevent things like Insider trading (where I would use confidential knowledge about something that is about to happen to a company to buy or sell shares because I know the share price will move when the information becomes public knowledge)

I also have to do a quarterly declaration that I haven't bought or sold shares without pre-clearing the trade with work, and that all my trading accounts are declared.

The reason for this is because the company and me would be jointly liable for criminal and civil charges if I have been doing insider trading.

Totally, totally different and non-comparable situation with what you've described

OP, it makes sense now that you have said you are suffering from anxiety. I think it might be that your anxiety is causing you to overthink this, and feel you have a lot more responsibility, and are subject to a lot more risk, than you actually are. I hope you get some effective help, and get relief from your anxiety soon.
