BathshebaDarkstone · 12/01/2017 04:33

WTF is thundersnow? Confused

steff13 · 12/01/2017 04:44

Snow inconveniences a lot of people, we can't get out, we can't do what we need to do, it makes driving scary and dangerous, so yeah, it's unreasonable, because it's not fun for everyone, for some it's hard and it's dangerous and that's worth remembering, it's not all me, me me.

The OP wasn't going to make it snow herself. It's not selfish to enjoy a naturally occurring phenomenon that you have no control over.

fanniboz · 12/01/2017 05:35

I do love snow but I usually make a special wish that it won't come! It's usually a nightmare to get around in. Also, I have a flight on Saturday morning and I'm nervous enough as it is so I'm hoping for boring dry weather for a few days yet Grin

SpookyPotato · 12/01/2017 07:28

I hope so but it's always such a letdown here. I never thought I'd say this but I had to live in the Middle East a few years ago to get my snow fix. The desert for christs sake! Grin Thigh deep snow, properly snowed in and yes.... thundersnow! It was amazing.

LadyStoic · 12/01/2017 08:51

'The Met Office has issued a Yellow Snow warning.'

If anyone offers you a Yellow Snow tab, please report and under no circumstances take it. Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2017 08:57

a link to the forecast thread :)

HystericalWoman · 12/01/2017 09:02

Yes I am hoping for a three hour commute home from work, and for extra road accidents and death on the road
WHY would anyone over the age of five, wish for snow

myfavouritecolourispurple · 12/01/2017 09:07

If it's not going to snow at friggin Christmas it should just piss off and be done with it

Agreed - although Christmas is the time when everyone is travelling around to see people, so actually it's a bad time for it to snow.

It's actually more likely to snow at Easter!

With all the talk about elderly people not receiving adequate care in their homes, I really wonder what happens to them if the weather is bad and their carers can't get to them. They're already getting inadequate care and then they get left for a couple of days? It's horrific. We should be able to cope better with snow - not so office workers can get to work but so that our essential services workers can.

I want to be confident that the trains won't faint at the thought of a dusting of white stuff in Aberdeen

Did they ever manage to get that leaf off the line last October Gretchen?

SpookyPotato · 12/01/2017 11:57

Just started snowing here in West Yorkshire but the ground is wet Sad

zebratrainedteens · 12/01/2017 12:42

Rain here in the south eastish, come on snow Grin

Man10 · 12/01/2017 12:48

I've never heard the term before, this thread has caused me to google it, and, while thinking about weather-related things, the phrase "ice storm."

I've always wanted to know what an ice storm was, ever since seeing the movie "The Ice Storm." (Which is a good movie, and not a weather-related disaster movie, as you might assume.) I wondered if an ice storm was just a hailstorm experienced by people with a word missing from their English vocabulary. Wikipedia now tells me it's not, it's a whole different thing, and from the sound of it, a lot worse. Below freezing rain manages to stay liquid until it hits the ground and freezes there, creating a layer of ice. (It also creates a layer of ice on trees and power lines that can bring them down.) So pretty scary, and does happen a lot in America. So apologies to all Americans for thinking they were merely unacquainted with the word hail.

ShinyMoonFace · 12/01/2017 12:58

I would love snow here. And for school to be cancelled so that we can snuggle and have hot chocolates then toboggan. Bliss.

On the subject of Thundersnow being a great name for a cat - we had a cat years ago who was so heavy footed that we could hear her walking on carpet. If she ran downstairs it sounded like a bowling ball going down a bowling alley. her nickname was 'Thunderpaws'.

Miss that girl so badly, she was gorgeous.

HateSummer · 12/01/2017 13:00

Heavy rain here 😒. No snow.

notfromstepford · 12/01/2017 13:02

Never experienced thundersnow and don't think we'll get it here but really really hoping we do. V excited and the slightest possibility of any snow - although it'll probably just piss it down as usual.

Farmmummy · 12/01/2017 13:08

We are due some snow in NI which gives me migraines, thunder gives me migraines if thundersnow is what it sounds like I REALLY don't want that with an audit tomorrow

CheshireChat · 12/01/2017 13:58

Ooh, I can't wait for some snow, I'm not fussed about the thunder, I've been hoping for snow ever since I've moved to the UK.

I'm even more Envy as my mum who lives abroad is currently snowed in. The picture is from my childhood home.

to be hoping for THUNDERSNOW tomorrow
derxa · 12/01/2017 14:01

It's not great for the sheep in the fields. Snow Angry

FatBottomedGal · 12/01/2017 14:05

I live in the outskirts of London and haven't seen any snow here for at least 3 years. I would LOVE a thundersnow storm!! Especially because South West Trains would grind to a halt at the first snowflake
