to get upset at inappropriate thread titles

I've obviously made a huge error of judgement commenting on a thread full of hugely pregnant women and I apologise to them for that (pleading temporary insanity of disgusting icky cold)

however

I do hate seeing thread titles popping up all the time in active conversations (because they're ongoinng chats rather than jokes that fade away) that have sexual innuendo in the title .. just seems so uneccessarily childishly assinine

eg an ante natal thread entitled 'minty sperm or original' .. ach!

yes naughtymummy ..even though my issue isn't with children reading over my story.. I'm sure parents would love to explain to their 5 year olds about sperm and relevant tastes ... yes I can imagine that conversation being much appreciated

Rhubarb, we are about to give birth. If you've been in that position, then you shouold bloody well know better!

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 15:21

As I recall, I kept my sense of humour.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 22/02/2007 15:22

we have kept our sense of humour too rhubarb, shame some of you don't appreciate that.

MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 15:22

no no rhubarb .. it seems that only pregnant people are allowed to have feelings

have you not grasped that yet?

OP posts:
MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 15:22

ok the groundhog day nature of this is beginning to bore me

rhubs .. are you going to get those poor kids or what?

Booboobedoo · 22/02/2007 15:23

Good lord. I'm sure you were both wonderfully in control and good-humoured and able to take criticism in late pregnancy. Good for you.

How nice to be so in control.

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 15:24

Ellie - then TRY to understand other people's feelings even if they are not like your own. Insuling MrsGV on your new thread is not helping is it? If you wanted to rise above it then you should do just that. But this is turning into a "them versus us" which is crap because we've all been there, been pregnant and depressed, given birth and hated it,etc etc.

Just TRY to see things from other people's pov. That's all. We can't all agree but we can all compromise.

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2007 15:29

i find most of the ante and post-natal thread titles naff in the extreme. remember that "walkin', talkin' living dolls" one?

they all give me the heaves, tbh. and all so unneccessarily capped up - why are those women shouting at me?

but i've never mentioned it because well, you know, each to her own. but now that it's come up i must say i find them embarrassing. couldn't care less about minty sperm in principle, though, esp as it turned out to be an indigestives' in-joke. just thought 'righto, another more-disgusting-than-funny thread on MN' and left it alone.

Molesworth · 22/02/2007 15:31

Surely "upset" is too strong a word?

To find it distasteful, childish, slightly offensive, embarrassing, perhaps, but upsetting?

TeetheCeeofDavedom · 22/02/2007 15:31

I don't find the sperm word offensive. However i think people have a right to be offened by anything they want. And I don't think they should have to keep quiet becasue you're about to give birth. Really sorry but don't see what that has to do with it. 99.9% of people on this forum have had a child so we've all been there in one way or another. What has about to give birth got to do with someone not enjoying your thread title? Think it's unfair to use the 'I'm about to give birth' card here tbh.

I started a thread called 'September kidney beans' myself and almost as soon as I had thought, why did I call it that and didn't like the title at all, can't wait till it's changed!

Molesworth · 22/02/2007 15:33

naff yes, tasteless yes, but upsetting?

naughtymummy · 22/02/2007 15:35

Nightmare- i typed my post fell asleep woke up and posted it in the mean time discussion has changed completely. Hi boo don't tell anyone my secrets

Eddas · 22/02/2007 15:35

Exactly why are you reading the new thread? Are you due in April? Then poke your nose elsewhere.

And you are insulting pg women 'only pg women are allowed to have feelings'

Again stop being so patronising.

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 15:35

But see cod, I get slagged off for calling the ante natal thread titles naff. Bet you don't though!
