to get upset at inappropriate thread titles

I've obviously made a huge error of judgement commenting on a thread full of hugely pregnant women and I apologise to them for that (pleading temporary insanity of disgusting icky cold)

however

I do hate seeing thread titles popping up all the time in active conversations (because they're ongoinng chats rather than jokes that fade away) that have sexual innuendo in the title .. just seems so uneccessarily childishly assinine

eg an ante natal thread entitled 'minty sperm or original' .. ach!

Fetch the kids from nursery!

NadineBaggott · 22/02/2007 15:07

I'm with the op I have to say.

I can take the tragic story threadlines in 'In the news' though.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 22/02/2007 15:07

we are.
insult pg woman and they will post more.
i have started a new thread, and will continue to do so until you p**s off out of them and leave us to it.
and it will not be the last thread we have that you find offensive.

TeetheCeeofDavedom · 22/02/2007 15:07

Rhubabrb, I think you're great and really funny etc but i was one of the people who felt uncomfortable with yopu calling your boss a vegetable. I'm not sure how you're unable to appreciate how people may be a little offended , or just a little uncomfortable with that expression, but hey ho. YOU didn't offend me, but yes I felt uncomfortable with somepne being described as a vegetable.

And I hate the word cunt branded around liek it's the funniest thing int he world in a group of grown up mums. It makes me cringe. I'm so far from a prude it's untrue.

I suppose I did snigger once when the school vicar called someone spunky but it didn't offend anyone as far as I know. Think it might have been different if he's called her a cunting vegetable though!

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 15:09

Which is why I got it deleted TeeCee. I am aware of other peoples opinions and feelings.

I don't like some of the thread title In the News, sometimes I don't want to know the details about an abused child! If I did I'd click on the thread, but these titles bloody tell you everything anyway!

MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 15:11

'insult pg women' .. I did NOT .. I insulted your choice of double entendre thread title .. take it as a personal insult if you want? I'm actually quite impressed that you manage to

MrsPhilipGlenister · 22/02/2007 15:13

Ooops!

TeetheCeeofDavedom · 22/02/2007 15:14

Rhubarb, I know you got it deleted, and that was cool.

I agree with the thread titles in news. I hate having to see horrific news headlines keep coming up in active convos.

hippmummy · 22/02/2007 15:14

So are you saying people shouldn't use sperm related words in any thread title, or just not in a humorous way?

What about the health threads - should they not be allowed to use the words vomiting, or blood or mucous in the title in case someone is eating?

Sorry if it sounds like I'm having a go - I'm not, I just don't really understand your point.

Booboobedoo · 22/02/2007 15:14

I'm just glad for those people who don't need the support of the ttc boards and so never get used to the 'yucky' language and hugs. I wouldn't wish fertility problems on anyone. It is a bit bloody miserable to have a go at the terminology (half of which is in the official acronym list at the top).

Sometimes, Mossy, the only thing that cheers me up at the moment is the March thread. We don't all share the same sense of humour (good thing too), but sneering at others' idea of an innocent laugh - especially women who are due to give birth in a matter of weeks/days - is pretty low IMO.

MegaLegs · 22/02/2007 15:16

Are you really all that prudish? I'm sure I've seen worse on mn.

Can't keep track of this as boys are in full flow and want to make cookies.

Offensive thread titles - agree they are a PITA, especially, grisley news stories.

Ganging up on particular mn group and being snide about some of there euphemisms (baby dancing, beanies, baby dust etc..) uncalled for and intolerant IMO.

I'm rubbish at getting my point across and I rarely get involved with diputes on MN but to get back to the original question yes IMO YABU.

Booboobedoo · 22/02/2007 15:16

(btw that was in reference to Rhubarb's earlier post re 'In The Immortal Words of...')

naughtymummy · 22/02/2007 15:17

How old are the children rading over your shoulders ? Old enough to have heard of sperm i guess (and be able to read it) surely it could be explained to them?? If they are old enough to be able to read and understand the word sperm then it is v unlikely to be the most shoking thing they have seen. FGS get over it mademe LOL (and i thought it was about oral sex)

MegaLegs · 22/02/2007 15:17

their!!!

naughtymummy · 22/02/2007 15:17

reading not rading -sorry

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 15:18

Like we just said boo, not everyone shares the same sense of humour and the thread title brought up gross images at inappropriate times of the day.

But it's been said to death now. I feel a bit sad that you can't have a "different" opinion on Mumsnet without being blasted. I find oral sex and references to it really gross - should I be locked up because I go against the majority? Or do you think there are others out there who don't like it either just pretending that they do because they don't want to be blasted either, or called sexually dysfuncional or whatever.

Really am going now!

MrsPhilipGlenister · 22/02/2007 15:18

I don't really care about thread titles, I must admit. I do think some of them are crass, and therefore don't ever click on them, but so what?

If people want to be childish and asinine, let 'em!

I reserve my right to pass judgement on them, however .

Booboobedoo · 22/02/2007 15:18

Hi naughtymummy!

Just trying to picture you explaining BJs to DS .

(It's me btw - don't think we've managed to be on a thread at the same time before!).

MegaLegs · 22/02/2007 15:18
Booboobedoo · 22/02/2007 15:19

Rhubarb, I was talking about your snide reference to the March antenatal thread title which you objected to on the grounds that you thought it was naff.

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 15:19

And FGS! I was taking the piss out of that thread title because it's cheesy! How the hell do you know I've never been in that position anyway?

What is it today? Time of the month?
