to get upset at inappropriate thread titles

MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 14:01

I've obviously made a huge error of judgement commenting on a thread full of hugely pregnant women and I apologise to them for that (pleading temporary insanity of disgusting icky cold)

however

I do hate seeing thread titles popping up all the time in active conversations (because they're ongoinng chats rather than jokes that fade away) that have sexual innuendo in the title .. just seems so uneccessarily childishly assinine

eg an ante natal thread entitled 'minty sperm or original' .. ach!

pmsl at 'then poke your nose elsewhere.'

how's your sperm, prissy miss? spunky or minty?

unknownrebelbang · 22/02/2007 15:38

It seems that people are allowed to type whatever they want, but will not accept that some people may find it offensive.

I thought WTF when I saw the minty sperm thread title, but didn't read it (until today).

I also didn't like the c*nting sainsbury's one and the one which referred to a child as a bitch. I daresay there are others....

I also know some people get upset with graphic titles in the news section, and some people at Christmas objected to threads with Father Christmas in the title.

There are numerous thread titles that MNers can find offensive at some point, my particular bugbear is swearing in thread titles. It's MY opinion, it's very humble, and I usually don't comment, but seriously, am I not allowed to express an opinion, just because I disagree?

Or maybe, just maybe, those who do post titles that others find offensive, might take a tiny step back, and accept that others are entitled to their opinion too!

Cashncarry · 22/02/2007 15:39

I NEVER say anything opinionated but f* it

Half the time, MN is moaning about something. If people want to start a thread moaning about the use of certain words in a good natured "carry on" style double entendre type way then why come on and make out like it's some personal attack??

Why is everyone so fecking touchy today?

compo · 22/02/2007 15:39

ah but aith a lot of people find all the blw threas 'naff in the extreme' but are too polite to say so

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2007 15:39

i do think upset is an odd choice of word, it has to be said.

BarbieLovesKen · 22/02/2007 15:40

sorry cod - that some actually have a life outside the internet and just because some dont spend every waking moment here, does not mean they dont have the right to post..

beckybrastraps · 22/02/2007 15:40

Nauseous even...

MrsPhilipGlenister · 22/02/2007 15:40

This thread is making me laff a lot.

'Specially cod.

Life is diverse! Everyone finds something inappropriate! Get over it and have a Mars bad

Life is diverse! Everyone finds something inappropriate! Get over it and have a Mars bar

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 22/02/2007 15:41

Yes definitely a Mars bar!

Booboobedoo · 22/02/2007 15:41

Cod: I reported a thread the other day because you were being persecuted. Hence AbbyMumsnet's intervention. This is all so terribly supportive, isn't it? Been on MN for a year.

Hi naughtymummy.

AitchTwoOh · 22/02/2007 15:42

oh i often find much of the content naff in the extreme as well compo, but i don't think the thread titles are a problem, are they? it's usually just 'how long to i steam my carrot baton?' and much as it's not impossible to make a double entendre there it's a bit of a stretch...

There is life outside the inner circle you know.

I am so glad I didn't know about mn when I was pg. I'd have been devastated at some of the comments on here.

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 22/02/2007 15:45

Well I'd spend a hell of a lot more time on here if I wasn't so busy waiting for my last few days in work to grind to a halt so I can finally go on my maternity leave and get away from my unsympathetic cruddy colleagues ... and oh hang on enjoy yet more cruddiness on here!

I will skulk off to the antenatal and Doctor Who threads now....

...or get back under my bridge at any rate - the goats might be coming to make a visit any time soon....
