to get upset at inappropriate thread titles

I've obviously made a huge error of judgement commenting on a thread full of hugely pregnant women and I apologise to them for that (pleading temporary insanity of disgusting icky cold)

however

I do hate seeing thread titles popping up all the time in active conversations (because they're ongoinng chats rather than jokes that fade away) that have sexual innuendo in the title .. just seems so uneccessarily childishly assinine

eg an ante natal thread entitled 'minty sperm or original' .. ach!

Surely a sunshine banana is an early morning hard-on?

DaveMcDaveODaveOfDavilleIdavo · 22/02/2007 14:29

I hate the thread title too - makes me heave.

I loathe all terms of schmaltzy cutesy tweeness and would gladly take a virtual breeze block to all the ttc terms. Babydust, I ask you. Surely a term coined by a 13 year old undiscovered troll?

Blek.

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 14:29

Yes.

Sperm flavours just seemed too harsh a topic, esp for the ante-natal threads! It just doesn't seem to sit right somehow.

Not that I'd have mentioned it if it wasn't for this thread. But it has made me frown and cringe. I'm so miserable!

MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 14:30

NQC .. you're so foul-mouthed .. yet somehow appropriate .. a fine tightrope to walk ROFL

itsmeNDaveP · 22/02/2007 14:30

KABOOM

Eddas · 22/02/2007 14:31

If you don't like a thread title, don't read it. Don't really see the problem and yes I am on that thread.

Think some people on mn are far too bored, go find something better to do

FrannyandZooey · 22/02/2007 14:31

I am with Rhubarb, I think they are cringeworthy

but each to their own

beckybrastraps · 22/02/2007 14:31

Still mystifed as to why the word 'sperm' is unacceptable though.

You had oral sex in mind - but they didn't.

itsmeNDaveP · 22/02/2007 14:31

that was exactly what I thought re sunshine banana, NQC

NotQuiteCockney · 22/02/2007 14:31

(I don't think I'd talk about cunting minty spunk in a thread title ... this thread was already sullied. I really do need to be more careful, I mucked up a 10/10 thread with talk of bodily fluids, and people carrying slugs around in their mouths ... whoops!)

lulumama · 22/02/2007 14:31

i imagine TTC is an emotional minefield, and can be very distressing and upsetting

maybe cutesy wutesy words like baby dust and baby dancing make it feel a bit nicer than

penis, ovum, having sex, cervical mucous, etc..

makes it a bit less clinical , which i am sure they would have enough of if undergoing any tests and procedures etc...

aquasea · 22/02/2007 14:32

I don't know why anyone cares what other people write. If they want to "sprinkle babydust" - let them!

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 14:32

Thread titles you can't help read though can you?

I did an inappropriate one when I wasn't thinking straight, as soon as it was pointed out to me I apologised and had it deleted. Because it's up there for all to see whether they choose to click on it or not.

MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 14:32

If you don't like the contents of a thread you can choose to not read it .. fair enough

If you don't like a THREAD TITLE ... you have no feckin' choice particularly a chatty one .. because it is constantly bumped into active conversations and immediately in your eyeline

THAT IS THE PROBLEM

why is that SO very difficult to understand

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 22/02/2007 14:32

Look, I had nothing to do with this one. Ok?

itsmeNDaveP · 22/02/2007 14:33

Similarly, if someone want to write 'baby dust makes me heave with embarrassment when I read it' then each to their own

Bozza · 22/02/2007 14:33

so MrsGV what did we call our ante-natal threads? which all got messed up when someone had their posts deleted.....

MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 14:33

bollocks becky .. that's the joy of double entendre .. the fact it can have 2 meanings

OP posts:
MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 14:34

wasn't if "get this farkin' thing out of me"?

sorry 'bout dat .. you had that party yet

OP posts:
DaveMcDaveODaveOfDavilleIdavo · 22/02/2007 14:34

fair point lulumama

s'just I'm more of a shagging and feckmeperiodstarted type of gal, so to speak.

hunkerdave · 22/02/2007 14:34

Rhubarb, what was your inappropriate thread title? Worse than CUNTING Sainsburys? (Which made me PMSL, I must say )

I never swear though, so it's a bit shocking for me.

Er.

NQC, have posted on the Oct thread

lulumama · 22/02/2007 14:35

suppose because who ever chose the thread title will take it personally?

sex and babies are interconnected..so not sure why sperm is so inappropriate for an ante natal thread....

have seen far more obscene thread titles

i think as long as this is an open forum, somone will be offended by something. even by a nuance of a sentence. and their perception of it

NotQuiteCockney · 22/02/2007 14:36

HM, I will keep an eye on the October thread.

lulumama · 22/02/2007 14:36

yes, like c*nting sainsburys !

fancy mentioning sainsburys here all those waitrose lovers will be offended

anyhoo, off for the school run...save me some popcorn xx

babydust · 22/02/2007 14:36

need ((((hugs))) you're all so mean.
