to get upset at inappropriate thread titles

I've obviously made a huge error of judgement commenting on a thread full of hugely pregnant women and I apologise to them for that (pleading temporary insanity of disgusting icky cold)

however

I do hate seeing thread titles popping up all the time in active conversations (because they're ongoinng chats rather than jokes that fade away) that have sexual innuendo in the title .. just seems so uneccessarily childishly assinine

eg an ante natal thread entitled 'minty sperm or original' .. ach!

it is not just our thread no, but it has felt like this has been aimed at us. no other threads were quoted in the OP.

and please stop with the fake niceness MrsGV, "makes things seem more important than they actually are" ruins any apology you might make.

what you think is the least important thng in my world right now.

NotQuiteCockney · 22/02/2007 14:51

hc, surely 'cunting minty spunk' is rude, though, right?

Eddas · 22/02/2007 14:51

Mrs G, not all pg women are hormonal and emotional, stop being so patronising

Booboobedoo · 22/02/2007 14:51

I'm with lulumama.

Amazes me that grown women with children and so - presumably - some sexual experience should be so upset by a Carry On-style double-entendre.

Sperm is not a swear-word. And gaviscon is actually more revolting than sperm.

MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 14:52

so out of the spirit of mumsnet

OP posts:
MrsGoranVisnjic · 22/02/2007 14:52

actually I retract my apology

what an arse!

rhubarb
"I can understand why she wouldn't want to post on the actual thread, if you felt offended by it you wouldn't want to bump it right?"
this is exactly my point, so why did she then?

and as for "This thread title doesn't single out any particular thread, it's general."

what else does "eg an ante natal thread entitled 'minty sperm or original' .. ach!" imply?

Molesworth · 22/02/2007 14:53

ffs

harpsichordcarrier · 22/02/2007 14:53

oh yes indeed, cunting minty spunk is quite clearly rude.
but I would have thought the use of the word sperm would only be inappropriate on prissynunsnet.
(apols to earthy nuns everywhere)

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 22/02/2007 14:53

Actually, when I read the thread title I thought the ladies were referring to the theory that blow jobs can help stimulate labour, or something like that. (Which was discussed on one of our March ante natal threads, can't remember which one, think the theory was probably invented by a bloke though )

beckybrastraps · 22/02/2007 14:53

SEMEN

Sorry.
I am actually finding this inappropriate now.
It is SEMEN that is less disgusting than Gaviscon.

Apparently.

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 14:54

Just because it is not offensive to you does not mean to say that all those who do find it offensive for whatever reason are to be denied the right to say so.

Live and let live. We all have different opinions which is why we usually have the priviledge of picking and choosing which threads to go on. As grown ups we all know what the minty sperm thread was referring to and when it is being bumped you can't help but read it, and yes the images that fill my head are not nice ones. Not first thing in the morning either.

But I am obviously in the minority with MrsGV therefore our views don't count and we should just put up and shut up?

NotQuiteCockney · 22/02/2007 14:55

Gaviscon is pretty gross.

Rhubarb · 22/02/2007 14:55

Ellie - I said the thread title was general. And since she did post on your thread to tell you directly then I applaud her, she's braver than me!

harpsichordcarrier · 22/02/2007 14:56

no, blow jobs can't stimulate labour.
the semen has to be applied topically to have any effect i.e. on the cervix.
(apols if anyone is offended by the words semen and cervix. or the implication that an adult woman might have sexual intercourse with her partner )

Booboobedoo · 22/02/2007 14:56

Our NCT teacher told us this Mossy.

Also, she suggested hoovering.

Hoovering and blow-jobs.

Frankly I'd rather be induced.

harpsichordcarrier · 22/02/2007 14:56

???hoovering??? bonkers.

MrsBadger · 22/02/2007 14:56

[nominates 'cunting minty spunk' as Quote Of The Week]

hunkerdave · 22/02/2007 14:57

[vulva]

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 22/02/2007 14:57

Lol Booboo!

Given that I gag if I put even so much as a toothbrush in my mouth I think I'm with you on that one!

Although I might be alone in this, but I love the taste of Gaviscon, in aniseed flavour.

boredwithwaitingforminiMOSSY · 22/02/2007 14:58

I mean actual Gaviscon btw no innuendo there!

harpsichordcarrier · 22/02/2007 14:58

how dare you!

Eddas · 22/02/2007 14:59

I think the point is that yes you are quite within your rights to be upset by inappropriate thread titles. Surely what is inappropriate to one person is not to another. A whole cross section of society clearly use mn.

The issue really should be with mn and what is allowed. Perhaps this thread could be highlighted to them.

TeetheCeeofDavedom · 22/02/2007 14:59

The word semen or derivatives of it doesn't offend me at all. The thread where Sainsburys were called C#@ing was offensive but loads of people though that was really funny. The word c~@ is far, far, far more offensive than the word spunk, semen or jizz etc surely. I'd use the word semen or spermy or spunky, whatever it was infront of my mum or my kids but would never use the C word for example.

MrsBadger · 22/02/2007 14:59

I thought that was hunker trying for a vulva emoticon...
