to think you should ignore people having a go at you if you are the President Elect of the USA

Rather than having a go at them on Twitter and describing them as second rate actresses. Hmm

Otherwise some people might just think you're a bit sensitive.

If that's how he's going to react when people call him out on things, he's going to have a very long 4 years in the White House

Those who think he'll still be tweeting like he is currently when he's president - of course he won't! There is not a fucking chance in hell that sad little tit for tat tweets like the one about Meryl Streep will be coming out of the official POTUS twitter account - tweets from there will be the usual inoffensive bland propaganda type tweets that will have been typed by a lowly press office or social media minion up then checked and double checked by the press office first before they get sent.

Also the nuclear codes - I am absolutely sure the Pentagon or whoever have protocols in place should the President become 'compromised' or his mental state suddenly deteriorate to stop him giving the orders to fire willy nilly. I expect the Pentagon have already stuff in place anyway, given that he's such a loose cannon.

derxa · 10/01/2017 07:24

I think Meryl Streep is a pompous ass.

Floisme · 10/01/2017 07:26

Then he should have ignored her. Or said something very gracious back and wrongfooted her.

KayTee87 · 10/01/2017 07:33

He won't last 4 years, he'll get bored and want to be a spaceman next

GrinGrinGrinGrin

birdybirdywoofwoof · 10/01/2017 07:35

But he can still use his real Donald trump account, no? And that is the one people will watch.

There aren't many checks between the president and the nuclear codes.

The idea that his advisors will stop him doing anything is laugheble. You've seen who many of his advisors are?

derxa · 10/01/2017 07:36

Then he should have ignored her. Or said something very gracious back and wrongfooted her. I agree but Trump seems to think he's outwith normal political etiquette. His team is allowing it. Why?
Yes where is claig Grin

Megatherium · 10/01/2017 07:38

I reckon the answer to the Trump presidency is to organise a rota of public figures saying something he doesn't like. That way he'll be so busy tweeting that he won't actually get round to doing anything dangerous.

Floisme · 10/01/2017 07:40

It's not about etiquette. It's about political nous.

ShotsFired · 10/01/2017 07:46

There was a thing recently which suggested prefacing all of DJT's tweets with "Dear Diary..."

Do that, and it all makes a lot more sense.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 10/01/2017 08:32

What are the permitted grounds for impeachment?

I'm thinking about organising an office sweepstake on how long he lasts & reason for going. My MIL is convinced he'll be assassinated before his term is out, probably by his own side.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 10/01/2017 08:38

Also, I can't help thinking the money men/Wall Street will have a view on nixing his social media presence. Even mouthing off about who he has met with on any day could panic the markets. People (loose term, generalising) will probably tolerate diplomatic chaos and another few thousand poor Syrians being annihilated better by his gobbiness than seeing their investments slide.

Ev1lEdna · 10/01/2017 09:25

He has the tweeting knee-jerk reaction of a 13 year old girl (although that is grossly unfair to many 13 year old girls who behave in a more mature manner.) What I mean is he seems to have an inability to take any criticism on the chin and his first response is to attack with name calling and petty insults. It is ridiculous that a man in one of the most important and influential jobs in the world can't absorb and consider criticism or at the very least rise above it and ignore it because, after all, he has far more important issues to worry about.

The fact he has access to nuclear weapons is really quite scary - thank heavens for the checks and balances of the US system, let's hope they work for they will be tested sorely over the coming years. That is, if he isn't impeached for something first. I wouldn't even be thrilled about that if I was American because that would leave the bigotry of Mike Pence.

Then there is the nepotism ... seriously he reminds me of the an arrogant, supercilious leader of a clique of mean girls in early high school.

From the Obamas to this - it blows my mind.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 10/01/2017 09:30

What do you mean- the money men will nix his social media presence?

darknessontheedgeoftown · 10/01/2017 09:37

I have been tweeting him back along with millions of others to call him out on his unreasonableness. He'll be gone within 2 years citing health reasons. He wanted to win for ego but doesn't want the job.

thetemptationofchocolate · 10/01/2017 09:50

noeuf
It's at 3.30 on the film which the OP linked to on page 2 of this thread. Goes on for about a minute.

Cakingbad · 10/01/2017 10:02

I don't think we should underestimate Trump. He is an entertainer. He is playing to the Gallery. Like the crowd enjoys watching a stand-up dealing with hecklers, his supporters will relish his put-downs to lovies (who can, let's admit it, be pompous and self-righteous.)

Postagestamppat · 10/01/2017 10:09

"I will eat my hat if he actually makes it the whole 4 years of his presidency without resigning, being impeached or being assassinated."

I agree. I suspect that there are some very scary dark figures behind the scenes and he'll either be "told" to behave, "forced" to behave or "dealt" with. Once he gets in the white house he won't only be dealing with yes men and compliant employees of his everyday life.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 10/01/2017 10:16

Ah the conspiracy theorists have rolled up. Quel surpris.

lljkk · 10/01/2017 10:50

he keeps attacking the person to deflect attn. from the substance of what he's done that they are criticising. It's classic petty argument tactics to attack the person & ignore the content.

There are some serious ethical / COI/ power grabs & shifts being alleged. I don't know how bad compared to what's possible. I'd like to think some ppl in Republican party do have ethical principles.

Ratonastick · 10/01/2017 10:53

I follow the Real DT and a couple of satirical accounts. The number of times I have checked as I assumed the tweet was from a satirical one is getting ridiculous. He has no filter and seems to embody the idea of a bad winner. He got the damn job so now do it!

Postagestamppat · 10/01/2017 11:38

Ah the conspiracy theorists have rolled up. Quel surprise

Mock away Grin But he can not continue in his current bombastic twitting manner as president and I highly doubt that when he tones it down it will be due to self control. Meet you back here in two years Wink.

coldcanary · 10/01/2017 12:00

He could learn something from Mike Pence - from what I know of the man he's a proper right wing nut but he seemed to react with a fair amount of presidential style grace when he was booed and lectured at the Hamilton show. I remember reading somewhere that he also later defended the cast's right to free speech.
Someone will have to take it off him surely - He really doesn't want to be the man who started an actual war on social media does he?

birdybirdywoofwoof · 10/01/2017 12:03

You sound like trump - they're all out to get me: apologise.

So if he does get himself impeached, health problems or assassinated, it will only prove to you that the scary dark figures behind the scenes have all the power.

It's really like talking to the people who drowned women for witchcraft. Grin

Ev1lEdna · 10/01/2017 12:04

There is some truth to that but all Mike Pence was doing was behaving like a true politician and indeed, an adult and a professional. Most politicians and many public figures are able to conduct themselves with grace and diplomacy, the fact that Trump (or his Twitter team IF he has one) cannot speaks volumes about his/their ability to do a job which depends on professionalism and diplomacy.

hackmum · 10/01/2017 12:08

"I think Meryl Streep is a pompous ass."

That's strange, derxa, she speaks very highly of you.
