neighbour using my drive when I'm out.

I came home early this morning just after 11am as i have had a chest infection since before Xmas and was struggling at work.
When I got home there were two cars on my drive, one park almost touching my front window and the other one at an angle beside it.
This is the only way to get two cars on the driveway so whoever it was parking there must know the driveway well and how to get two cars on it.
Outside on the road is permit parking and no parking between 10 and 12am.
This is to stop commuters and shoppers parking as we are five minutes from a huge indoor shopping centre.
I had to park behind them blocking them in and blocking the pavement also.
I left a note on my car for the traffic warden
Please knock on door as I have to obstruct the pavement due to two illegally parked cars on my drive.
half an hour later my next door neighbour in his 70's who we NEVER see knocks on my door.
Totally unapologetic and says one car belongs to his wife's carer as she cant park on the road due to restrictions and the other is a neighbour from up the road who uses our driveway when we are at work as her driveway is not big enough.
Even though I was fuming he still just didnt seen to think it was a problem even saying.
Well when your at work your not using it and at least it makes it look like some one is home.
I told him to get them moved straight away.
The carer came round looking really sheepish and asked would I mind if she parked during the restrictions between 10 and 12 as she has been given a ticket in the past. I said fine if no one is in but why cant my neighbour move his car off his drive to enable his wife's carers to park. He cant afford £40 a year to pay for a permit for his carers?
The other car nearly touching my front window is still there so I have put a not on it.
Caroline, I have reported your car to the police as an abandoned vehicle. Since then Nicholas has told me he gave you permission to park here. Nicholas has no business or authority to use our driveway. It would have been polite and neighbourly to at least have asked permission. If your car is parked on my driveway again I will be reporting you to the police.
Tomorrow if I am feeling better I am off the B&Q to buy a chain and paddlock so they cant use my drive!

Does Nicholas wear a sports coat and sensible shoes? And a tweed hat? In my head he is. Caroline may be a twinset and pearls type I feel Grin

Twiggy71 · 09/01/2017 18:40

My arsehole next door neighbour decided to use my drive to play football on with his 2 kids ( they could of damaged my bathroom outlet etc).
Needless to say he only started to do this after living 8 years beside him when i seperated from my exh. It was as if he could do what he liked because there was no man in the house anymore.
I put up a fence between us which made it harder to get in and out of his car.
I made sure he didn't get the better of me even though i was only a WOMAN living on her own with 2 kids..

Monkeyinshoes · 09/01/2017 18:40

I wouldn't let the carer park there either. The fact no one asked would piss me right off.

Added to that, you wouldn't be able to keep the chain locked (or you'd have to give Nicholas or the carer keys), you'd end up in the same situation since it seems he's been telling everyone to park there.

birdladyfromhomealone · 09/01/2017 18:41

VW passatt 10 reg.
Immaculate inside!
The carers car was a beat up fiests, 7 reg with child seats and full of empty sweet/chocolate/crisp packets.
Going to do as NoelHeadBands suggests and turn off the light!

This is a fab thread.

OP because I am a mean bitch like to cover all bases I 'd send Nicholas and Caroline a letter from my solicitor as well.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 09/01/2017 18:42

Oh pleeeease get your deckchairs out on their lawns once the weather is nice. Seeing as they aren't using that space you thought it would be ok... you could get her car towed if you wanted to. Don't let anyone park on your drive, it's opening a can of worms. Nicholas definitely needs a taste of his own medicine though.
Also if you have a chest infection maybe you'd be best off resting in bed tomorrow and casually blocking carolines car in the process

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 09/01/2017 18:43

Place marking. I bloody loves a parking thread!

Thattimeofyearagain · 09/01/2017 18:43

Hmmmmm, Pasatt you say? I'm thinking Caroline has a husband in middle management < nods knowingly>

CoraPirbright · 09/01/2017 18:43

As a pp suggests, let the carer park, don't charge - it will be your good deed for the day! But as for Nicholas giving Caroline permission to park on your drive, they can both get to fuck!! Cheeky bastards!!!

LucklessMonster · 09/01/2017 18:44

Immaculate inside but have you checked the boot?

UterusUterusGhali · 09/01/2017 18:45

Is she still blocked in though?

A diagram would be luverly. Maybe just scribble one on the back of an envelope and take a pic?

pictish · 09/01/2017 18:47

Oh this is a juicy one. Will Caroline appear?

previously1474907171 · 09/01/2017 18:47

Plot twist: Caroline is storing a dead body in the boot and has scarpered to Mexico.

And is now using someone else's holiday villa and swimming pool

BalloonSlayer · 09/01/2017 18:47

We once had a person booked to measure up and quote for a new kitchen.

When she arrived she breezy announced that she had parked in the neighbour's drive "that's all right, isn't it?" [Shock] (loads of space on the road) I knew the neighbours were at work and unlikely to be back for the half hour she was at ours but I was horrified although too polite to tell her to move it.

She lost that sake that very second though. Wish i'd had the nerve to tell her why.

I even think it's rude to park on my friends' driveways if I am visiting them . . .parking on that of a stranger is beyond my understanding.

justinelibertine · 09/01/2017 18:47

I am waiting for Caroline to start a thread in AIBU explaining that the 'cow' up the road has blocked her car in. Nicholas said that it was ok for Caroline to park on OP's drive and now she is too scared to knock and ask for her car back.

Of course OP you aren't a cow at all. Rather Caroline is most entitled. I do kind of wonder whether Caroline is a netmummer rather than a mumsnetter. We are all far too sensible to take the word of an elderly sports jacket wearer.

AgathaF · 09/01/2017 18:48

Some people are so cheeky!!!

BalloonSlayer · 09/01/2017 18:48

That sale

birdladyfromhomealone · 09/01/2017 18:49

I would love to do a diagram but how do I upload it from my phone on to here.
Please someone give me step by step instructions

InvisibleKittenAttack · 09/01/2017 18:49

I wouldn't charge the carer, but just say you don't want them parking on your drive. It's down to Nicholas and the carer's employer to work out parking arrangements.

If you offer to let them park at a charge, you are saying it's ok with you for other people to use your drive, just a question of the price. Better to be clear, you do'nt want anyone else using your drive.

seven201 · 09/01/2017 18:50

You draw it, take a photo on your phone then attach it (a little paper clip icon)

elfies · 09/01/2017 18:50

I would be so annoyed . You're ill and have had to spend all this time trying to reclaim your own driveway .
Hopefully someone will actually apologize too

If I were the OP I'd go into Google Streetview and see how long this has been going on for. And also maybe use it to try and track the Passat's proper 'home'. Aka the den of iniquity where Caroline normally resides.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 09/01/2017 18:52

Does Nicholas look like Norris Cole from Corrie?

Bibblitybob · 09/01/2017 18:52

She must be (and rightly so) very embarrassed,, but still needs to move her fucking car!
