neighbour using my drive when I'm out.

I came home early this morning just after 11am as i have had a chest infection since before Xmas and was struggling at work.
When I got home there were two cars on my drive, one park almost touching my front window and the other one at an angle beside it.
This is the only way to get two cars on the driveway so whoever it was parking there must know the driveway well and how to get two cars on it.
Outside on the road is permit parking and no parking between 10 and 12am.
This is to stop commuters and shoppers parking as we are five minutes from a huge indoor shopping centre.
I had to park behind them blocking them in and blocking the pavement also.
I left a note on my car for the traffic warden
Please knock on door as I have to obstruct the pavement due to two illegally parked cars on my drive.
half an hour later my next door neighbour in his 70's who we NEVER see knocks on my door.
Totally unapologetic and says one car belongs to his wife's carer as she cant park on the road due to restrictions and the other is a neighbour from up the road who uses our driveway when we are at work as her driveway is not big enough.
Even though I was fuming he still just didnt seen to think it was a problem even saying.
Well when your at work your not using it and at least it makes it look like some one is home.
I told him to get them moved straight away.
The carer came round looking really sheepish and asked would I mind if she parked during the restrictions between 10 and 12 as she has been given a ticket in the past. I said fine if no one is in but why cant my neighbour move his car off his drive to enable his wife's carers to park. He cant afford £40 a year to pay for a permit for his carers?
The other car nearly touching my front window is still there so I have put a not on it.
Caroline, I have reported your car to the police as an abandoned vehicle. Since then Nicholas has told me he gave you permission to park here. Nicholas has no business or authority to use our driveway. It would have been polite and neighbourly to at least have asked permission. If your car is parked on my driveway again I will be reporting you to the police.
Tomorrow if I am feeling better I am off the B&Q to buy a chain and paddlock so they cant use my drive!

I've lived in a semi-rural location that was, ok, more like 7 minutes from a shopping centre, and had parking restrictions.

Miracles DO happen :-D

MerryMarigold · 09/01/2017 23:02

It's cheeky, but what skin is it off your nose if they park there when you're out?

Iizzyb · 09/01/2017 23:03

Well I have an L shaped drive & have managed to keep it mostly for myself for 17 years! A few discussions & one blocking in incident in the early days of living there one thing ex-p was useful for, mostly asking people politely not to park in my garden (most of the neighbours were a bit put out tbh honest but went with it) and once writing a note on the back of a business card (I work for a big law firm) how quick did that neighbour move his car after he saw my note (turns out he was a drug dealer).

People parking on my drive still give me the rage!

Worst one was someone who drove right into my lawn to turn her car round whilst I was out in the street - it was a proper comedy moment knocking on her window and asking her to get off my grass. It was winter. She was picking up one of my neighbours. It was dark but even so!

I live in the corner plot. Contemplating treating myself to a fancy block paved drive to make it obvious it's mine & not next doors!

Maybe I should get some of those penguins!

Come on Caroline!

Pissedoffinsomniac · 09/01/2017 23:03

🚘 another blatant place mark 😬

Iizzyb · 09/01/2017 23:04

Not got the hang of that crossing out thing - doh!

FutureMrsRanj · 09/01/2017 23:04

I can't wait to hear about Caroline, you definitely sound too ill to go in tomorrow op

Foggymist · 09/01/2017 23:05

Is the permit thing Mon-Fri only? If it's 7 days what does Caroline do on days you're at home and why can't she do it every other day so?!

RTKangaMummy · 09/01/2017 23:05

It's cheeky, but what skin is it off your nose if they park there when you're out?

Because it's the OP's drive, hence her private property!! Why the hell should anyone feel they can park in her bloody drive regardless of whether she's in or not?!

LittleMissCantbebothered · 09/01/2017 23:11

Under no circumstances are you permitted to use your car tomorrow!!! You will be letting us all down if this ends with the car being simply driven off your drive when you are out.

Theweasleytwins · 09/01/2017 23:12

🚐dammit Caroline! DH keeps asking for an update, first MN thread he has shown interest in

SleepFreeZone · 09/01/2017 23:13

MerryMarigold is Caroline yes?

Badcat666 · 09/01/2017 23:14

Cherry

My brother lives in a semi rural area near the coast (back is fields/ woodlands but road is a long line of cul de sacs) and is about a 3 minute drive max to a HUGE shopping estate with at least 1 super large supermarket, a B&Q, Pet-smart, soft play area/ bowling place and a couple of furniture stores. (oh! and a macdonalds drive in!)

He had to get a couple of permits when we visited him a few years ago when half the family traveled down for his birthday. (he could squeeze 3 cars on his drive, had one permit which came with the house and got a couple of extra weekend "parking passes").

Same issue as OP, parking restrictions had to be put in place as ppl used to take the piss and park up all day cos they either worked in the huge estate place or parked there and walked to save on parking fees.

Caro's totally waiting for everyone to go out tomorrow.
This dispute is so British I can't get over it.

Hah. De-lurking to say I guessed immediately about the other forum and I was right. There seems to be quite a big crossover between there and here Wink

RTKangaMummy · 09/01/2017 23:17

Is the other forum NM?

DesolateWaist · 09/01/2017 23:17

What YY? Is it Caroline or the OP?

3boys3dogshelp · 09/01/2017 23:17

I think Caroline is so British and keen to avoid confrontation that she has in fact abandoned the car forever and bought a new one. definitely not place marking

GenghisCalm · 09/01/2017 23:18

So rude I am shocked. I hope you feel better in the morning OP.
