neighbour using my drive when I'm out.

I came home early this morning just after 11am as i have had a chest infection since before Xmas and was struggling at work.
When I got home there were two cars on my drive, one park almost touching my front window and the other one at an angle beside it.
This is the only way to get two cars on the driveway so whoever it was parking there must know the driveway well and how to get two cars on it.
Outside on the road is permit parking and no parking between 10 and 12am.
This is to stop commuters and shoppers parking as we are five minutes from a huge indoor shopping centre.
I had to park behind them blocking them in and blocking the pavement also.
I left a note on my car for the traffic warden
Please knock on door as I have to obstruct the pavement due to two illegally parked cars on my drive.
half an hour later my next door neighbour in his 70's who we NEVER see knocks on my door.
Totally unapologetic and says one car belongs to his wife's carer as she cant park on the road due to restrictions and the other is a neighbour from up the road who uses our driveway when we are at work as her driveway is not big enough.
Even though I was fuming he still just didnt seen to think it was a problem even saying.
Well when your at work your not using it and at least it makes it look like some one is home.
I told him to get them moved straight away.
The carer came round looking really sheepish and asked would I mind if she parked during the restrictions between 10 and 12 as she has been given a ticket in the past. I said fine if no one is in but why cant my neighbour move his car off his drive to enable his wife's carers to park. He cant afford £40 a year to pay for a permit for his carers?
The other car nearly touching my front window is still there so I have put a not on it.
Caroline, I have reported your car to the police as an abandoned vehicle. Since then Nicholas has told me he gave you permission to park here. Nicholas has no business or authority to use our driveway. It would have been polite and neighbourly to at least have asked permission. If your car is parked on my driveway again I will be reporting you to the police.
Tomorrow if I am feeling better I am off the B&Q to buy a chain and paddlock so they cant use my drive!

You have to take photos of her car for -us- the police Grin

IamNotDarling · 09/01/2017 22:42

I think you need to issue an invoice for a day's parking. £100 reduced to £99 if paid within 1 day.

duckwalk · 09/01/2017 22:43

Strike out fail, sigh.

Wotshudwehave4T · 09/01/2017 22:44

Stuff a kipper up her exhaust pipe for good measure, give her something to remember you by when she does show up 😀

Could you/DH/a friend get to B&Q or Wickes before needing to go to work to buy a chain and large padlock?

They are usually open at 7am

Then chain across driveway locking her car inside or chain around her car to "make sure it is safe"

Otherwise I am sure your temperature is going to be soooooooo high that you really really must not go to work and would be very bad idea for you to drive to work that you must stay home WinkWinkWinkWinkWinkWinkWinkGrinGrinGrinGrin

HappyFlappy · 09/01/2017 22:45

Good idea Tinkle.

We want to look terribly, terribly brave, but totally unbowed by the tragedy which has befallen us.

It is important that Judge Rinder sees that The Spirit of The Blitz is alive and well in our MumsNetty Bosoms (like he would notice MumsNetty bosoms, but never mind).

He would talk to us in that Very Gentle And Sympathetic Voice he uses and make his Bambi eyes at us and nod kindly. He would prob'ly say "And are you in a GREAT deal of pain, HappyFlappy?" And I would give a brave smile and say "I am Judge, but I don't like to complain. However I don't know where I would have been without my dear friend TinkleBinkle". And he would thank you on behalf of the Court, and the British Public, and you would say "Judge, please! You embarrass me. I have just done what anyone would have done in the circumstances" (the modesty just shining off you), and then he would say.

"Not EVERYONE" and would look sternly at Caroline. She would open her mouth to speak and he would shout "TALKING!" and wipe the floor with her!

I can see it all now . . .

rollonthesummer · 09/01/2017 22:47

So is this your 'semi-rural' property where the post lady got a bollocking for dropping off parcels inside? You have parking permits in the countryside? Hmm, interesting. You're having a dramatic week with the tenant refusing to lay the rent then paying the rent.

?

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 09/01/2017 22:47

Hope you feel better tomorrow OP, but to be safe you should definitely stay at home until Caroline appears to aid your recovery.

Does Caroline work during the day? (I'm assuming not if she's moving her car around like this) - I wonder how long she can do without it?

Brillig · 09/01/2017 22:47

So glad I found this thread (though not much fun for OP, I realise).

While we wait for Caroline to come back, this is how they do penguin bollard-type stuff in Japan:

neighbour using my drive when I'm out.

I am very concerned for the OP. Chest infections can be very nasty, and this has been a bad winter for them. If you were sent home today after 2 hours, it seems very unlikely that you'll be fit for work tomorrow. You might be just about fit enough to sit by the window, wrapped in a duvet, sipping hot chocolate, distracting yourself with mumsnet. Just make sure that 1)when your DH moves his car, he also reverses yours out far enough to maintain the blockade, 2)if you need to go out for a GP appt you take a taxi, as you clearly are not fit to drive, 3)if Caroline comes round in the day, your complete unfitness to drive is blatantly apparent.

HappyFlappy · 09/01/2017 22:49

I like it Brillig. Minimalist,

But perhaps not sinister enough?

RTKangaMummy · 09/01/2017 22:50

@cherrysoup are you on correct thread or do you mean something else about OP?

HappyFlappy · 09/01/2017 22:51

You forgot

  1. however, you are still able to effectively use a high velocity rifle . . .
Cherrysoup · 09/01/2017 22:52

Yes, @RTKangaMummy, I am. OP Has posted this elsewhere, previously saying she lived in a rural property. She posted her tenant issue on here and elsewhere last week. Other forum is smaller so cool parking threads are leapt upon even more!

Oldraver · 09/01/2017 22:54

I've always marvelled at the Americans apparent ordiliness when parking.

Until at the end of a long holiday we were going into a Disney park and the car park attendants were starting a new row but directed us right down to the bottom. I thought 'fuck it' and parked at the top, cue much hysteria, jumping up and down, and when everyone followed my lead threw his hands up in the air.

I have never seen a bunch of grown ups run for the train like naughty children

likepeasandcarrots · 09/01/2017 22:55

Can rural areas not have parking restrictions? I thought it was said they were only in place between 10-12 anyway?

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 09/01/2017 22:55

🚗

typedwithcertainty · 09/01/2017 22:56

BEEP BEEP

Cherrysoup · 09/01/2017 22:57

Course they can, but I'm surprised it's 5 minutes away from a large covered shopping mall. Not too many of them rurally.

LadySpratt · 09/01/2017 22:59

First time I've placemaked. Much too good a thread not to!

Fingers crossed for you tomorrow op.
I like the idea of putting up a 'For Sale' sign. Hehehehe.

Osirus · 09/01/2017 22:59

cherrysoup, I've seen this too! I knew exactly where you meant as I saw the tenant thread there too.

I'm looking forward to the update!

dawnc27 · 09/01/2017 22:59

great, im now being haunted by the fucking penguins!

on that note, was there ever any more updates from the op of those 2 threads?
(yes this is also a blatant placemark)

Cherrysoup · 09/01/2017 23:01

Ooh, wonders who you are....

BumWad · 09/01/2017 23:01
