I've learned that

  • I am a gullible fool (or if being kind, I always want to see the best in people Wink)
  • I am a lot more authoritarian than I thought. I always believed I was pretty liberal, but have realised that I put a lot of faith in rules and think people should abide by them and reap the consequences if they don't.

Am sure there's more but these are the two things that have struck me most. How about you?

That I am a snob
That I was in an abusive relationship
That I had a right to be happy

(the last two were mostly thanks to @anyfucker )

That I really shouldn't be ashamed that I was raped. That was life changing for me. Posters told me they believed me and to stop being ashamed, it wasn't my fault. Nobody in real life has ever said things like that about it.

Wattson Flowers women supporting and empowering each other is what makes mumsnet so wonderful imo

On a completely shallow note I've learnt I'm frumpy and that my leather black boots are a fashion crime, however I've also learnt that Idon't really care!

Wattson Flowers

I learned that I am a people pleaser and that my parents brought me up to believe that everyone else's needs/wants and ideas always trumped mine.

At the age of 47 I'm still struggling to say "no" and "I don't want to". :(

PeterRabbitPie · 14/01/2017 09:28

That someone like me couldn't possibly exist Grin

That I'm less liberal and more judgy about certain things than I thought I was.

That "No" is a complete sentence - now that HAS been life changing!

I am fairly confident I could spot most relationship red flags now.

YY to Instant Pot. I got one for Christmas and am obsessed with it.

That I believe very fundamentally in the concept of an ordered life, with lots of plans and projects, and that if humans are "muddling through" they are usually very unhappy.

I have been called a liar quite a few times on MN, when telling an entirely truthful story or my simple experience (nothing outrageous, or complicated). Rather rude. I was describing the pizza slice snacks sold at DC school during break. Or explaining that most people in my industry seem quite happy in their jobs & are not desperately unhappy about job insecurity or planning to leave it. I don't call other posters liars. (even though online fantasists do abound, sigh)

Pseudonym99 · 14/01/2017 10:20

I've learned that I don't have the spare time to whinge and whine that others do. I'm also glad I don't take things that people say on Facebook seriously like others seem to.
