I'm not sure where I should post this so went with aibu.

Im a first time mummy.

My lo (4weeks old) has been off the last 2-3 days she sounds like she has some mucus on her chest she coughs but not loads she's had a persistent sneeze since week 1. The last couple of days she is different she won't settle she is crying all of the time nothing seems to be working she is not interested in food. I'm having to express as she isn't feeding at her usual times and when she does take the expressed stuff she is only having 1-2 oz I've tried giving her a dummy in case she just needs to comfort but she just chokes and spits it out she has a clean bum and has been burped I'm not sure what else to do. Ive tried running the hot taps in the bathroom and sitting in there for a bit. She doesn't have a runny nose but a few small boogies.

Should I take her to A&E or is that a bit excessive?

Would really appreciate some advice.

I would 100% take her to A&E. Always better to be safe than sorry in these situations.

Please take her to a and e. Little ones can deteriorate very quickly so it's better to get her checked.

This time 7 years ago ds was critically ill in hopsital with bronchioltis at 8 weeks old. I nearly didn't take him to be checked as I was worried it was overreacting but it's a good job I did. Not trying to scare you but just so you are aware

Keep an eye on her in the car seat. Sometimes the positioning can make breathing harder when they're ill

If she hasn't fed in a long time her blood sugar will be low which affects everything. Agree you're doing the right thing in getting her checked over Flowers

Hey all

Just wanted to let you have a quick update we have just been allowed to leave the hospital dr isn't sure what is wrong but thinks something is developing in the throat area which is what was causing the breathing issues.

They gave her another lot of saline drops up her nose and a saline defibrillator and then a suction tube up the nose :(.

She wouldn't feed for hours but managed to express 4oz and just as they were going to try to tube feed she took the bottle!!

Thank you all for your support and advice going to A and E was defiantly the right thing for her.

Xx

Hope you're feeling OK, op. There is no more miserable feeling than having a sick baby. Hope all is well. We were in a very similar situation with ds when he was 2 weeks old. My friend who is a doctor said that they would rather you took the child to a and e than have something missed.
