Newborn not feeling well

I'm not sure where I should post this so went with aibu.

Im a first time mummy.

My lo (4weeks old) has been off the last 2-3 days she sounds like she has some mucus on her chest she coughs but not loads she's had a persistent sneeze since week 1. The last couple of days she is different she won't settle she is crying all of the time nothing seems to be working she is not interested in food. I'm having to express as she isn't feeding at her usual times and when she does take the expressed stuff she is only having 1-2 oz I've tried giving her a dummy in case she just needs to comfort but she just chokes and spits it out she has a clean bum and has been burped I'm not sure what else to do. Ive tried running the hot taps in the bathroom and sitting in there for a bit. She doesn't have a runny nose but a few small boogies.

Should I take her to A&E or is that a bit excessive?

Would really appreciate some advice.

You should go to A&E, they will not mind I promise you. If you call 111 they're going to tell you to do that anyway so don't waste time on that.

Poor feeding abd poor breathing definitely a concern. Also babies can get low temperature instead of high when poorly. Is she still having wet/dirty nappies?
I would ring 111 as a minimum Flowers

Go prepared to stay overnight, if you're heading to A&E. It's very likely that if she has any of the above symptoms that they'll keep her in.

I would go to a&e too. That's a long time to not feed. Good luck xx

Go to A&E now. Forget 111!! A newborn with breathing difficulties is s medical emergency.

Seeing your update go to a &e, broncholitis can cause breathing symptoms and isn't worth messing with.

Definitely go to a and e. little babies can deteriorate rapidly and it's better to be safe. From experience when ever we've taken lo to hospital he's immediately started feeding and appeared perfectly well! I hope she's ok x

Oh yes pack a bag for you and her - snacks, drinks, clothes, nappies, change of clothes for you, charger, anything else. X

I'd go to a and e too, you can't take risks with poor breathing in such a young baby.

A&E - my DS had sepsis at 3 weeks so I'd take no risks. He's 8 years old now but we stayed at hospital 9 days. Sometimes young babies get cool with infections , not hot. Hope all's well

The fussiness can just come and go no big deal but the breathing and not feeding thing would be a call to out of hours doctor or A&E trip. 99% it's nothing bad but it's not worth the 1% risk for a tiny newborn that can deteriorate quickly.

Agree, a&e as PP have said that's what 111 will advise and you can't take a risk with a tiny one. Flowers

Spoke to 111 they are arranging for someone from out of service to come within 2 hours not sure if I should wait for them or just take her in her lips are dry but her mouth is full of what I can only describe as gooey water like thick spit sounds weird I know she's had plenty of wet nappies and a few dirty although she is so small she is very strong and is really throwing herself around she also has a rash on her face which doctors think is milk spots not sure if it's related but she's really acting out of character normally when she wakes from a nap she stirs a little and gently wakes up but when ever I manage to get her off not more than 3 minutes later she literally screams herself awake

I hope you have gone to a and e. They are always lovely and would rather you don't take any chances with a tiny baby. I hope she is OK x

Just read your last post op. Go to a and e now. 2 hours is too long to wait and a newborn can go down hill fast.

Please Go to a&e. Mine had this at 12 weeks. Was broncholitis. She went downhill fast and I'm so pleased I went. I hope she's ok x

Agreed. A&E now. It's where you'll likely end up, so you may as well go now.

Op did you check if the rash fades under a glass?

Also out of hours might not have all the equipment needed to fully diagnose. I would recommend take the risk just take her down now

SortAllTheThings · 08/01/2017 21:13

If her breathing is really bad please call an ambulance.

Report
dailymaillazyjournos · 08/01/2017 21:16

2 hours doesn't necessarily mean 2 hours. It could be longer. If they are in any doubt OOH would more than likely send DD to A&E anyhow so I think you're better going straight there.

She is acting way out of character by the sounds of it and anything to do with breathing/not feeding in such a tiny baby needs attending to promptly. Good luck. Hope she is soon back to her usual self.
