AIBU to be so fed up and confused on pyjama issue

mummyof2pr · 08/01/2017 19:30

AIBU to be serverly annoyed with all the judgements on pyjama wearers?

Can someone explain to me what the big deal over wearing pyjamas is? I don't understand. I shower daily, I wash my clothes if they are used/unclean. When I get up I get dressed go about my day, come home and shower and put pyjama pants on until I get into bed. I take them off before bed as I only sleep in my underwear. If I don't have anything to do in the day I'll wake up and put the pyjama pants on because they are comfortable and warm. If I then realise I have to go out and make a run to the store I'll just go like this as I usually have my children (4m and 2y) with me and if not I'm trying to do the shop as fast as I can to get back to them as my DH is not the best with small children and often gets flustered. I am not choosing to wear them out of laziness, I choose to wear them out of comfort. They are clean, I am clean. Nothing inappropriate is exposed. So I don't understand how it is hurting anybody. I don't think it's fair to sit and judge people who chose to wear pyjamas and be comfortable and I don't understand why people are so offended by this?
I'm sure there are a few people that do wear them because they are lazy and slobbish but I don't think it's fair to judge all people that wear them this way.

fizz Horatio lives in a very nice, leafy part of London and, unlike some, luckily doesn't has to commute ;)

there is a difference between kids seeing someone fully clothed in "nightwear" and seeing most of someone's breasts and other private body parts

Other private body parts? Because that happens when people wear mini skirts (a piece of clothing I personally admittedly don't really like)?

Come off it. YABVU. And you knew what would happen when you started this thread. Seeing as you started it after seeing the comments on an other one, didn't you?

@Waitrose @navy no one is forcing you to comment and read

Na man when you hear twilight zone music on a thread it's hard to pull yourself away Wink

Bettercallsaul1 · 09/01/2017 10:45

Cara - To use the word "debated" is hardly relevant when the topic is not exactly weighty...

But I think it is "weighty" as I tried to explain in my longish post last night. Without repeating my argument again, I think that the trend for pyjama-wearing in public is symptomatic of a deeper problem in society.

FizzBombBathTime · 09/01/2017 10:46

horatio You couldn't pay me to live in London. Hmm

FizzBombBathTime · 09/01/2017 10:46

My husband doesn't commute, it's just a common commuter city (st Albans)

gamerchick · 09/01/2017 10:47

What is Twilight Zone Music, should I know

Na not unless you've watched it. I'm hearing it though Grin

1horatio · 09/01/2017 10:47

Oh well, English people ;)

I do like it here. But sometimes you're so easily offended, fizz. And have to make everything a class issue... like you just did by mentioning that you live in a middle class city. (How is this something to be proud of, btw?)

Anyhow, if I do bring down the housing prices people from you nice commuting middle class city might afford them ;).

Omg horatio READ will you?!

The post about you bringing the house prices down was supposed to be irony/light hearted as others had said the same to op about their neighbourhood, yet when its excercise I would be seen as unreasonable.

Please READ. FUCKING HELL!!!!

(And you just mentioned London so tit for tat eh.)

WaitrosePigeon · 09/01/2017 10:49

Ha, very funny. You are very right gamer Grin

CaraAspen

You cannot aspire to be middle class! It doesn't work like that, for heaven's sake. You are what you are and if members of your particular class get dressed properly before entering the public domain, then that says something about them: it says they have standards.

I do have to challenge this statement. It's your opinion but that doesn't make it a universal truth. These are your assumptions about people's motivations or intentions when they dress in public. Plus, I believe people do aspire to different classes. Not all people, just some people. And this is hardly a new phenomenon.

Deadsouls · 09/01/2017 10:51

I should've put quote marks around your quote

Notso · 09/01/2017 10:53

No worries OP, ignore my nosiness.

I think people will always have their own opinions about whatever people wear. I do, sometimes I think I'd never go out dressed like that, sometimes I think what a great outfit, then I get on with my day. We have all got different likes and dislikes and ideas of what is or isn't appropriate. I wear the clothes I wear because they are comfy and I think I look ok. I don't kid myself into thinking everyone else likes what I'm wearing.

I use them as comfort wear. So they then would be the same as loungewear.
Lounge wear is socially acceptable. Pyjamas aren't. I judge and don't apologise for it.

cara well done taking the out of context. My point was that that pp was Basically saying you do things like this, you must be lower class, and there is inherently something wrong with being lower class.

I am middle class. Very middle class. I know how class works. I don't need that explaining to me. But again, keep taking things out of context if it makes you feel better sweetheart."

Do you really have to say you are "very middle class", as you put it? I wonder if you are - really? Your behaviour, and that of the OP, is aggressive, shrill and defensive. Never mind "very middle class", that's just not very classy, full stop.

kel12345 · 09/01/2017 10:57

I don't like them tbh. At home to be comfy I'll wear tracksuit bottoms and jackets, or leggings. To go out I'll wear leggings with a long cardigan, jeans or trousers.
I just don't feel I can function unless I'm dressed.
I sleep naked so no need to have them for bed either (I've got a few pairs of bottoms I wear at that time of the month, that's it)

FizzBombBathTime · 09/01/2017 10:58

cara I'm not here to prove myself to you.

FizzBombBathTime · 09/01/2017 10:58

If you think I've been out of line then go ahead and report. But I expect nothing will be done. I have done nothing wrong.

CaraAspen · 09/01/2017 10:59

"mummyof2pr

@fizz I've appreciated most comments and I don't mean to be rude or offend but the comments you are making to @1horat now are the same as the ones others have made to myself and other pyjama wearers sad"

Well at least you have the good grace to acknowledge that she is not helping your case.
