AIBU to be so fed up and confused on pyjama issue

mummyof2pr · 08/01/2017 19:30

AIBU to be serverly annoyed with all the judgements on pyjama wearers?

Can someone explain to me what the big deal over wearing pyjamas is? I don't understand. I shower daily, I wash my clothes if they are used/unclean. When I get up I get dressed go about my day, come home and shower and put pyjama pants on until I get into bed. I take them off before bed as I only sleep in my underwear. If I don't have anything to do in the day I'll wake up and put the pyjama pants on because they are comfortable and warm. If I then realise I have to go out and make a run to the store I'll just go like this as I usually have my children (4m and 2y) with me and if not I'm trying to do the shop as fast as I can to get back to them as my DH is not the best with small children and often gets flustered. I am not choosing to wear them out of laziness, I choose to wear them out of comfort. They are clean, I am clean. Nothing inappropriate is exposed. So I don't understand how it is hurting anybody. I don't think it's fair to sit and judge people who chose to wear pyjamas and be comfortable and I don't understand why people are so offended by this?
I'm sure there are a few people that do wear them because they are lazy and slobbish but I don't think it's fair to judge all people that wear them this way.

Yeah, at least I have outdoor clothes though.

mummyof2pr · 08/01/2017 22:20

@gobby as I've stated, I have clothes, as a normal person does. I would rather give away all of them then behave the way you do.

I think the issue is funny (people suffering from real depression excluded). I would be very upset if parents from my kids schools were showing up in pjs, it would mean we moved into the wrong neighborhood. So far, we seem ok.

glitterazi · 08/01/2017 22:22

I think it's just another way to tell women what to wear
What a load of bollocks. Men in their pyjamas in the middle of Tescos/wherever would get just the same amount of derision and judging!
They don't tend to do it, though, do they? Or at least it seems to be more prevalent amongst women.
Why is that? Is it some sort of fashion statement "look at meeee" type thing? I mean, you see people can't be arsed to get dressed but they always have a face full of make up which must have took hours to be spray painted on.

Bit of peace and love please, folks? This is a thread about PYJAMAS after all...

FizzBombBathTime · 08/01/2017 22:24

mambo i really can't agree with the neighbourhood thing. You sound awful.

mummyof2pr · 08/01/2017 22:24

@glitter I think because women's pyjamas tend to be more colourful and have more print they are more noticeable whereas men's tend to just be plaid or darker coloured. So that would be why women stand out more when they do it

@gobby READ FFS. I get dressed to go out. Just don't think it is necessary if I am running to Tesco/Morrison for a 5-10 minute shop!

Iona why is Gobby's post calling op a fucking skank being left to stand? Is that not a personal attack?

HackAttack · 08/01/2017 22:27

This debate is still going?? People have the right to wear whatever. Just as I have the right to judge someone out in pyjamas as lacking social decorum, simple. You can wear them but you don't get to decide that people can't judge.

mummyof2pr · 08/01/2017 22:27

@fizz I just reported and asked the same thing. Total BS.

Iona
It is a taat. It is making Active very dull at the moment. Why are you leaving it up?

gobbynorthernbird · 08/01/2017 22:28

Well, no. You don't get dressed to go out if you're leaving the house in nightwear.

mummyof2pr · 08/01/2017 22:30

@gobby I'm beginning to think you have a reading issue or maybe you're just ignoring what you don't want to hear. Over it. You're rude. Goodbye.

OP - to answer your questions.
In the UK, people do expect less 'comfort wear' than many areas of the US do. Being 'properly' dressed is a sign of being on top of the daily grind, having your shit together etc. Pyjamas, even super clean ironed ones, don't fit into the image for this.

Therefore wearing them to a shop looks like you have so little interaction with the mores of society that you are just one step away from being a hoarder/never leave the house/taking drugs/don't send your kids to school etc.

It has very different in the UK from the US.

I live in MI where wearing PJs is just a kind of fun/comfy thing to do, not a sign of being a social outcast.

However, if people are making ruder comments to you/in your hearing, then they are being rude.

Does this answer your questions?

glitterazi · 08/01/2017 22:31

@glitter I think because women's pyjamas tend to be more colourful and have more print they are more noticeable whereas men's tend to just be plaid or darker coloured

You get plenty of colourful actual clothes though, with nice prints, so I'm not buying that argument! smile]

glitterazi · 08/01/2017 22:31

bold and quote fail

mummyof2pr · 08/01/2017 22:32

@glitter wasn't using as a reasons to wear pj argument. Using as why women get noticed doing it more than men argument!

gobbynorthernbird · 08/01/2017 22:33

Lolz. I am now reading. You said you wear PJs outside. So, you wear them outside? Or have I got that wrong?

FreshHorizons · 08/01/2017 22:36

I would judge people if I saw them out in nightwear- I haven't as yet.

mummyof2pr · 08/01/2017 22:36

@gobby as I've said YES I occasionally wear my pyjamas outside. I do not sleep in them. They are clean. I also wear and own regular clothes.
