"I've name changed for this"

I just don't get it.

Why not just name change and say nothing.

I've had around 100 usernames. If MNHQ stopped allowing usernames to be changed I wouldn't post for help. My life isn't so messed up that if someone searched it all I would get loads of calls for troll. So I use a new username for each different thing, if someone identifies me from that they don't get access to my other personal history. Some people do have crap in their lives.
I hate the "welcome to MN OP", "interesting first post OP" shite

sammyjayneex · 08/01/2017 00:07

I've always wondered this too lol.

I've always named changed at times and said nothing... lol but I'm glad someone has explained that people do it to avoid the comments about being a strange first post etc.

Nicketynac · 08/01/2017 00:17

Worra I see it now and feel pretty daft for not noticing it before!

Yeah but how long have you been a member of MN?

AutumnalLeaves38 · 08/01/2017 00:37

Re troll suspicions :

After several months on here, I'm still confused by these:

If someone's threads, or all their posts, have formerly only ever been on '30 days', which self-erases after...er...30 days, then surely that would then appear as if they had no history whatsoever?

Likewise, 'OTBT' is unsearchable so wouldn't show any results either.

Can any old-timers clarify?

Advance thanks.

If mumsnet were the same as other forums you've been on then it wouldn't be mumsnet! 😄

If you want to thank a poster you usually just say "Thanks" on the thread directly to the poster you are thanking. No need for a button.
Copy and paste the part you want to quote and put a * either side of it to highlight.

You'll get used to it!

DesolateWaist · 08/01/2017 00:46

Very few people will only ever post in 30 days only or chat exclusively.

QueenMortificado · 08/01/2017 00:46

You're right AutumnLeaves, but if they were a genuine poster then they probably wouldn't set anyone's trolldars off

If they came on and started a thread about fruitshoots or something then they'd be a goady fucker anyway, in which case it doesn't actually matter how long they've been registered - it's still against talk guidelines

Thanks, DW and QM.
