I know that it's supposed to be musical theatre rather than The Voice / X-Factor, but I don't think that any of the contestants can really sing well. Is it just me?

It isn't great...... but the guy who just sang has made sitting through the rubbish completely worth it - WOW!

antimatter · 07/01/2017 20:26

Yes. They are looking for 5 singers who are going to perform in Gary's new musical about TD.

Sittingonthesofa · 07/01/2017 20:28

I lasted to the middle of the first singer. I thought after the opening that this is going to be shite and I was right.

DameDeDoubtance · 07/01/2017 20:29

dd loves it and it's better than watching the cruelty of x factor.

AristotlesTrousers · 07/01/2017 20:30

I bloody loved it. TV gold!

antimatter · 07/01/2017 20:31

Yes. It isn't cruel. They don't intimidate those artists.

joystir59 · 07/01/2017 20:34

I saw the last singer, Jason in Thriller Live last October- he is great. Then you'd expect him to be accomplished if he's performing on the West End stage. Most of the rest of them were pitch very imperfect.

Mummylin · 07/01/2017 20:34

I enjoyed it !

Kirriemuir · 07/01/2017 20:35

I enjoyed it very much. Better than X factor and the voice.

reuset · 07/01/2017 20:38

I haven't seen either, Gary Barlow would be the warning sign to steer clear. Though I'd steer clear of all those talent shows, Simon whatsit et al.

Musical theatre is hell on earth anyway Grin

crunched · 07/01/2017 20:53

I liked it - especially The Kempster Wink

HorridHenryrule · 07/01/2017 21:00

I am not watching it I cant take rubbish no more. I cant watch x factor or the voice both are rubbish. They never get anywhere and all you watch is desperate wannabes.

BabychamSocialist · 07/01/2017 21:05

I switched over to the Voice. Didn't think I'd like it without Ricky from the Kaiser Chiefs on it but it's actually pretty good!

Much tighter and more enjoyable than it was on Auntie Beeb.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 07/01/2017 21:07

Turned into a family viewing event this end. Liked the fact that performers seemed to be judged on potential - so an imperfect performance didn't result in Cowell style ritual humiliation. Seemed a bit kinder in approach rather than being all about the judge's ego. The star system of awarding points kept our teens entertained while we shared the last box of (post) Christmas chocs.

BobbiTheCynicalPanda · 07/01/2017 21:08

YANBU.
It was the only thing on tv that I'd been looking forward to this evening.
Watched for about 30 minutes and turned it off. Total disappointment.

ChoccyJules · 07/01/2017 21:13

Watched it with DD. We enjoyed the path of stars. I had to explain who TT are and what an 'idol' is. I think there were two or three people good enough to go through tonight, tops. Obviously the last chap, already in the West End was going to be good and he was fantastic. Better singer than Barlow and Minogue (I don't know the Glee lady).

Fiona2609 · 07/01/2017 21:16

Only saw the last chap. He seemed to be really good.
Not my kind of programme otherwise.

MsJudgemental · 07/01/2017 21:17

Babycham I miss Ricky too, but it's good to have Sex Bomb Tom back!

*Choccy" I saw Amber Riley in Dreamgirls a month ago. She was amazing. What a voice and stage presence. highly recommend if anyone likes musicals.

The introduction singing seemed to go on for such a long time (11 minutes).

I watched the first 2 singers and then fell asleep!

I don't think I will watch it again.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 08/01/2017 00:48

I kind of wanted to watch it because of Graham Norton but even he wasn't enough to make me endure the combination of 'talent' show and Gary Barlow and Mel Giedroyic (sp) - my brain can't cope with that level of inane shite.

MommaGee · 08/01/2017 02:00

Watched on record al I could fast forward. Got DH to wash up in order to avoid it.
Then watched The Voice. Yay to Tom, boo to not talking if no one presses a buzzer

ForalltheSaints · 08/01/2017 08:21

Thank you for the advice not to watch it. I did not last night.

SoupDragon · 08/01/2017 08:28

Those sort of programmes are all basically shit. The Voice is especiallly shit as it's not managed to produce a single star at the end.

As someone said on theotherthread, at least this hasn't had loads of people who appear to have mental health issues and are being exploited for laughs.
