Phrases you really hate on MN

cathf · 07/01/2017 14:17

Following on from the fabulous type of threads you really hate on here, I thought I would start a similar thread for phrases used on MN that really get your goat.
I'll start off with 'in this house', usually used in conjunction with some smug statement to make the OP feel inadequate/bad.
For example 'Oh, we love books in this house!' or 'there's no faddy eaters allowed in this house' or 'we all have to respect each other in this house'.
Over to you ....

OP posts:
derxa · 08/01/2017 10:12

That's even worse than Centre Parks Grin Well it's not what you would expect on your average holiday.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/01/2017 10:20

AI resort. Ok, I can figure out that it means all inclusive

I agree with Derxa on what AI means.

"Boak" is a standard word here (Scotland)

I hate it."Dry boak" is awful.

CheeseFiend36 · 08/01/2017 10:27

Posters who like to point out to the OP that their DM/MIL is providing free childcare:

"My MIL has my son 2 days of the week for which I'm grateful for. Yesterday though she shot me in the foot for no reason. Aibu to be annoyed?"

"You do realise that she's saving you £1million a year on childcare don't you Hmm?

Only1scoop · 08/01/2017 10:28

'Discuss' at the end of an Op

Niaus267 · 08/01/2017 10:31

Mine is "end of", for example "you need to LTB. End of."

Apparently the poster is the fount of all knowledge, and that the topic can no longer be discussed. Everyone needs to listen to the poster, toe the line because they said so. It's one step away from Goodwin's Law.
Honestly, your opinion is just one more opinion to be considered. It's not the most important one. Find a better way to convey your point, rather than shutting people down with an "end of".

Really irritates me.

Niaus267 · 08/01/2017 10:33

Godwin's, not Goodwin's.

Lweji · 08/01/2017 10:34

I agree with Derxa on what AI means.

That's my point. It means too many different things.
And you're clearly not geeky enough. Smile

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 08/01/2017 10:40

' What xxx said'.

Yeah, cos we really need random non-input from a faceless username to reiterate the point...

ClopySow · 08/01/2017 10:46

yesterday she shot me in the foot for no reason

I laughed at that. Sadly i didn't spray my screen with coffee or wake the baby. I'm not drinking coffee and i don't have a baby.

Lariflete · 08/01/2017 10:54

I really, really hate 'OK, I'll bite' in response to an OP. It's so patronising and self-aggrandising.

Also hate 'makes my teeth itch'. I know the sensation they mean but it's so cringeworthy.

Spudlet · 08/01/2017 10:54

AI definitely means artificial insemination. Although autocorrect apparently believes it means articulate inseminator, which is not quite the same thing Grin

I hate it when 'PFB?' 'First baby?' 'First child?' etc are used in such a way that it is clear they're meant to put someone down and make them feel stupid. For starters, some people will only ever have one child so are we supposed to think of them as lesser parents in some way? And secondly, it was everyone's first time once! I find it really patronising, frankly.

AI Google results

These days it's mostly artificial intelligence. Keep up. Wink

Spudlet · 08/01/2017 11:03

I live in Norfolk! Lots of pigs, not so much with the robots Grin

Passmethecrisps · 08/01/2017 11:06

I am a farm girl with a degree in computing so I swing both ways so to speak.

I do like articulate inseminator. I think my husband would be delighted to receive that moniker

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 08/01/2017 11:10

So, AI means all-bacon-sperm-inclusive-robot? Glad we've cleared that one up.

derxa · 08/01/2017 11:12

I do like articulate inseminator. I think my husband would be delighted to receive that moniker That makes him sound very 'entitled' Pass
Grin That was a joke in absence of all doubt.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/01/2017 11:15

I've always mentally spelled "fache" as "fash".

Grin

I suspect we're moving in that direction. (Less the bacon)

Instead of just LTB, we'll be able to say LTB and get yourself an artificial articulate intelligent inseminator (AAII).

Niaus267 · 08/01/2017 11:19

Lweji - LTB as in Love The Bacon? Grin

Lweji · 08/01/2017 11:22

That's right. Smile

crashdoll · 08/01/2017 11:25

A lot of these phrases aren't exclusive to MN, although some people seem to think they are.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/01/2017 11:28

The comment below is NOT directed at any of the lovely posters on this thread but I have just seen it and it's two for the price of one.

(1) "pearl clutching" - so hackneyed.

(2)"moralistic cows"- clambering up the moral high ground whilst simultaneously using a pejorative, sexist term about women.

all the pearl clutching moralistic cows on this thread

Passmethecrisps · 08/01/2017 11:44

Cows may become moralistic if artificially inseminated by an articulate yet robotic bull.

NextInLine · 08/01/2017 11:46

Ending a comment with 'no?'
It doesn't make any sense!

How everyone's mother in law / ex / sister in law is a narcissist or 'narc'.

Posters who name change and start with, 'I've name changed but am a long term poster, naice ham, penis beaker etc.' As if knowing this terminology somehow is proof they have been here a while.

In fact 'naice' anything.
