Phrases you really hate on MN

cathf · 07/01/2017 14:17

Following on from the fabulous type of threads you really hate on here, I thought I would start a similar thread for phrases used on MN that really get your goat.
I'll start off with 'in this house', usually used in conjunction with some smug statement to make the OP feel inadequate/bad.
For example 'Oh, we love books in this house!' or 'there's no faddy eaters allowed in this house' or 'we all have to respect each other in this house'.
Over to you ....

Just posted this on another thread: 'You seem somewhat over invested in this' when someone is keen on an issue. It's patronising and often comes across as troll hunting as though the poster is the OP backing her/himself up. So annoying.

This! Usually said either by someone who is very dogmatic and can't stand anyone else having a different opinion; or someone who is posting nonsense and doesn't like the fact that someone else is showing them up.

"I would go batshit crazy"

I see the word 'batshit' on the AIBU forum more than anywhere else on the net.

People who pretend to act like another poster isn't annoying them by retailiating with a calm sentence and a "Smile", when clearly they're seething inside

CheeseFiend36 · 08/01/2017 09:06

New posters who's opening line is "I'm new so go easy on me Smile"

I don't understand that - it's a forum (which you've probably been lurking on for months and knowing exactly what the etiquette is), not your first day at military school

PineappleExpress · 08/01/2017 09:13

ashet, rammy and fache

What do these mean, Francis?

kiki22 · 08/01/2017 09:13

Go no contact as if its just that easy its not having no contact is hard and awkward.

diddl · 08/01/2017 09:15

"Ronald I don't think the words I hate (boak, snarky) have been around for 10+ years."

Do you mean just on MN?

I used to use snarky as a kid-am in my 50's now.

derxa · 08/01/2017 09:16

Someone will always chip in with "we got married in a public convenience then invited our 3 guests for a spot of dumpster diving to find the wedding breakfast, followed by a thimbleful of White Lightning for the toast. Everyone still talks about how it was the best wedding ever!" Believe me they're only being polite.

bruffin · 08/01/2017 09:19

victim blaming- life is usually not that simple.
Manchild and "you dont have a MIL problem, you have a dh problem"
and agree on all the "dailyfail" virtue signalling

derxa · 08/01/2017 09:20

ashet, rammy and fache
Ashet = serving dish
rammy = a row or fight
fache = get annoyed
Although Francis I wouldn't use those words on the Scottish Baby Box thread. That might indeed start a rammy.

CheeseFiend36 · 08/01/2017 09:36

When an OP doesn't come back to give an update on an incredulously unbelievable thread and various users start posting stuff like the following:

"OP any update?"

" oh yes please come back OP I was thinking about this all weekend Grin Grin"

"OP are you ok, are you there?"

"Hope everything's ok OP, we're thinking of you Flowers"

And when they come back :

"Ahh brilliant update OPGrin"

"So glad I saw your update OP!"

I realise I sound like a right cow!

BertrandRussell · 08/01/2017 09:39

"My little family"
"Your/my baby your/my rules"

CheeseFiend36 · 08/01/2017 09:41

"Oh FFS"

I hate that acronym, be it on MN or real life

BadLad · 08/01/2017 09:46

"I'm heading the thread now".

So fucking what? Do you think anyone gives a shit? It's not as if the thread was only limping along because of your pears of wisdom. Fuck off with your pathetic attempt to have the last word on whatever squabble you're in, especially when it's almost certain you're going be tempted back in to add a few more waspish put-downs.

MrsJayy · 08/01/2017 09:47

derxa Grin

Has narc been mentioned yet ? My mil is a narc no she isn't she just annoys you,

BadLad · 08/01/2017 09:47

Heading?

Hiding!

LagunaBubbles · 08/01/2017 09:49

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this but I hate "Your baby, your rules."

ilovesooty · 08/01/2017 09:50

"Create your own family traditions"

Lweji · 08/01/2017 09:53

Has narc been mentioned yet ?

And narc makes me think of narcotics. It always makes me think the MIL is a druggie. Grin

Most acronyms that actually have a more common meaning and look odd.
Sorry to the OP on that, but it's a recent example: AI resort. Ok, I can figure out that it means all inclusive. But AI is popularised as artificial intelligence and it just looks odd.

A recent case was SIL for son in law, when most people clearly had to work it out, as it's usually used here for sister in law. And it wasn't even clear in the context.

derxa · 08/01/2017 09:56

AI resort For me AI means artificial insemination. The AI man used to come round and inseminate the cows (not him personally).

Lweji · 08/01/2017 09:57

Derxa

That's even worse than Centre Parks (waits for someone to say they hate Centre Parks references Grin).

Only1scoop · 08/01/2017 10:00

Boob monster

cathf · 08/01/2017 10:04

Nap dodger

'What did you want from this thread, OP?'

Usually said if OP doesn't immediately take the action advised within about 10 minutes.

'OP: AIBU?
MN: Yes
OP: No I'm not!'

I hate this, OP isn't obliged to agree that they are the biggest arsehole on the planet just because MN tells them so. It's often said on threads where there isn't a unanimous view anyway so doesn't even make sense.

Accusations of 'dripfeeding'

Yes it can be really obvious but sometimes more information naturally comes out as part of conversation especially on relationships. But posters rush to kick an OP without seeing the nuances of a situation and it's much easier to accuse a vulnerable poster of dripfeeding usually with an eyeroll, than admit you jumped the gun.
