Just read this article

Wearing PJs in Tesco's should be banned because its offensive and making people feel uncomfortable, Ridiculous. Not sure about you but I generally don't find anything threatening or to be worried about by people in PJs? I cant see that its indecent either; I doubt people are parading down the isles in skimpy Lingerie this time of year. Even if they were there is nothing wrong with the human body. This isn't Calvinist Geneva or Taliban controlled Kandahar. Some people are offended by or feel uneasy around Goths, Clowns, Women in niqab or burka, Transsexuals, people in football shirts etc. It doesn't mean that their personal hang ups should restrict other peoples freedom of dress. People are so easily offended these days.

Anyone else offended by people in PJs in Tesco?

MuseumOfCurry or maybe I was being ironic and don't give a shit if someone is wearing the latest thing off the catwalk or a bin bag whilst picking up a pint of milk Hmm

RainbowDashian · 05/01/2017 20:48

I love pjs and wear them in the house from about 6.30pm, I don't wear them to go out but really couldn't care less if someone else wants to. I don't think supermarkets should be banning them.

1DAD2KIDS · 05/01/2017 20:53

I think the serve a vital service to middle class

wtffgs · 05/01/2017 20:53

I wouldn't dream of doing it but, in the greater scheme of things, I can give zero fucks about this. It's just a chance for the professionally offended to give themselves orgasm-by-judgy-wedgie Hmm

MuseumOfCurry · 05/01/2017 20:54

Yes. I definitely got an I don't give a shit impression from your earlier post:

To be honest, I'd rather see people shopping in their PJs, than yet another Boden clone, smelling like they bathed in perfume and looking like they've ironed out every crease and semblance of a personality.

Bejazzled · 05/01/2017 21:00

I think I'd prefer to be a "boden clone" (whatever that is) not than I can afford to buy boden, rather than a Waynetta Slob

Just get dressed in clothes.

ForalltheSaints · 05/01/2017 21:02

Hygiene comes to mind.

MadMags · 05/01/2017 21:03

Holiday you misunderstand, your sneering doesn't bother me in the slightest. Rather, I think it odd that you're bemoaning name-calling and stereotyping by name-calling and stereotyping!

OP, is managing to get dressed before you leave the house being smug? I had no idea!

HolidaySpiritsReinbeerAndWhine · 05/01/2017 21:04

MuseumOfCurry yes, that second post you quoted was a double take on what many posters have been saying on here, their judgment on people who dress in pjs outside. I made a general statement about what I thought of people wearing certain clothes. In reality, no I don't care for Boden clothing, but I don't care if people wear them. I was merely making a point that anyone can judge anyone for the clothes they wear, make snap decisions about them and their lives, it doesn't make for nice reading.

MadMags · 05/01/2017 21:06

I'm baffled by this thread!

Wearing actual clothes in public is now middle class??

HolidaySpiritsReinbeerAndWhine · 05/01/2017 21:07

MadMags, Are you being serious? Because I wasn't. Think of it as one of those 'reverse' posts MN 'loves' so much....

NancyJoan · 05/01/2017 21:08

What happens about a bra? I have been worrying.

1DAD2KIDS · 05/01/2017 21:11

It's not the wearing of clothes. Probably 99.9% of the population wears clothes to the supermarket. It's more about the response to those, assumptions and comments made about those PJ wearing low life's (or words to that affect has been used).

I remember when wearing gym clothes out and about was a very lowbrow thing to do, maybe sleepwear needs a make over and a price hike then it can be the new activewear:

HolidaySpiritsReinbeerAndWhine · 05/01/2017 21:14

NancyJoan I once saw a hugely obese woman with no bra on walking around Tesco. She was in a tank top and was literally falling out of it. Also wearing white leggings that showed through her 'sexy bitch' underpants, obviously bought in Primark (I would know as I'm a chav and proud). It's ok though as she wasn't wearing anything remotely jammie -like, so was not offensive to the eyes at all Smile.

(That was sarcasm, before anyone else takes me seriously).

1DAD2KIDS · 05/01/2017 21:18

BabooshkaKate

I always thought kappa trackies and adidas hoodie type sports wear was lowbrow.

But active wear like that in the video and yoga pants was middle class.

To be fair fashion or what's hip isn't my strong point so could be wrong.

I just do not understand why a normal human who has met other humans and has some awareness of social skills/norms would wear their bedtime clothes into a supermarket.

It is just weird, and unless someone is trying to make some sort of statement about doing it, I do not understand why anyone would. It's not offensive, it's just weird.

Furthermore, imagine you wearing your slippers walking across the car park into the supermarket (or wherever the fuck else you think it's fine to wear your nightclothes). Now imagine that people who have had dog shit and all the other filth that you find on pavements and you are walking over that in the soft slippers you wear in your bedroom.

Grim.

1DAD2KIDS · 05/01/2017 21:21

PidgeyfinderGeneral maybe they have a set of dedicated supermarket slippers?

OP posts:
PidgeyfinderGeneral · 05/01/2017 21:23

But why even?

MeetTheMartian · 05/01/2017 21:23

Pjs in a shop - what sort of pjs? The ones you have been wearing all night, several nights in a row? So you want to wear to go shopping and then get into bed with bed? Boak...

The obvious issue for me is that pjs = night time and intimacy (just see the number of people who would never want to be seen in their OK first thing in the am and will get changed first if they have guests at home). So not the sort of things you would wear for everyone to see.
Add to that that most pjs, esp supermarket ones etc.., are made of cheap material, see through, no shape etc... you are pretty sure to look crap in them really.
So why on earth would you want to go out with them?

MeetTheMartian · 05/01/2017 21:24

Xpost Pidgey I can see we are on the same lines....

Headofthehive55 · 05/01/2017 21:28

What exactly is the problem? Some of mine look like normal clothes. Is a pj top so very different to a jersey top with a different pattern on it?
For all I know you might have slept in your day clothes!

1DAD2KIDS · 05/01/2017 21:28

Maybe they are crusading against the objectification of women and the pressure of unfair female beauty standards? Or just desperate for a pack of smokes?

1DAD2KIDS · 05/01/2017 21:29

Headofthehive55 probably looks a lot more like a PJ top when accompanied by fluffy slippers and a dressing gown instead of a jacket

I just received my Tesco delivery in my onesie. Not fussed what the driver thought. I've also picked up DR from nursery in pjs as I had a terrible virus and could hardly get out of bed. His key worker and I had a laugh about it. That day I'd had a shower and put on clean pjs ( and clean knickers underneath!) I wouldn't go to the shops in pjs though. Ugh at people wearing slippers all round a dirty shop floor then wearing them at home Hmm
