yeah, kids stink of other stinky things.

Dogs stink even more than fags. Houses that reek of , dog poo, dog dirt, now THAT is offensive and unhygienic, especially if there are children around. I would rather my kids smelt of fags than of dog. I would rather they smelt of neither.

Until smoking is illegal, people can smoke outside. You may not like it but that doesn't mean it's indecent for someone to light a fag near a kid. Most people avoid waving their cigarettes in others people's faces - even children's.

havent read the whole thread but i think smoking should be banned everywhere but your own home, and even then it pisses me off when next doors smoke drifts in through my windows in the summer.

it is not a given right to smoke and why should non smokers inhale other peoples smoke, they are non smokers for a reason.

i think its down right insonsiderate for people to smoke around children or pregnant women.

the only bad thing about the ban in scotland is that everyone congregates at the doorways so when you are walking in or out of a building you get lungfuls of smoke. alot of these people are smoking over their pushchairs.

its not just the breathing in of smoke that i dont want, its the smell that gets on your clothes just from walking past someone smoking.

there are products and help for people to give up and my DH gave up when we first got together as i didnt like kissing an ashtray and he gave up through cold turkey and willpower alone, so it can be done

Have to agree with catsmother re the fag being held down near to toddlers faces, not only disgusting but also dangerous. I don't think smokers do it on purpose, I just don't think they realise.

With bith my pregnancies I hated being at the train station at the end of a long day, managing to find a seat where there were no smokers then some idiot would wonder over, light up and I would have to move - thinking about it maybe I should have stayed and thrown up all over them as cigarette smoke was one of many smells that made me want to vomit everywhere - that would have been interesting!!!!

The whole thing about human rights, I understand that smoking is an addiction and you can't lock yourself away, however when your addiction affects other people health then surely their human rights over rule yours as a smoker - smokers choose to light up, non-smokers choose not to.

Anyway, beginning to rant now and probably not make much sense, but bring on the ban - can't wait!

THat's just silly Kitty.

Dogs are known to be good for children unless they have an allergy (except in the case of the vicious ones which rip them apart of course, but they're quite rare.)

There are masses and masses of well-documented benefits of growing up in a household with a dog. There are masses and masses of well-documented disadvantages to growing up in a house full of smoke and no benefits whatsoever.

My DS had a playdate round the other day, and his clothes and hair all stank of smoke. I just found that so sad. If he'd smelled of dog, I would have found it unpleasant, but not offensive or sad. Poor kid.

Yep, having a dog around is supposed to be quite good for building up children's immune systems (as is living on a farm - but that is plainly not an option for most people )

And dogs kept in clean houses with hard flooring (not carpets) rarely stink of dogs ime

Ooops, I meant "and clean houses (with hard flooring, not carpets), where dogs are kept, rarely stink of dogs..."

Does that make more sense

a house that smells of dog poo?

'dog poo' you said kitty, not dog?

Report
kittywaitsfornumber6 · 22/02/2007 23:01

Yeah, sorry, I meant dog. Houses that smell really strongly of dog. I hate the smell when someone treads in dog poo. In my opnion it is the most revolting smell I have ever smelled

pointydog · 22/02/2007 23:02

well, yep, I;d agree with you on that kitty!

My experience of people with dogs is that the houses are grubby and they smell, just my bad luck probably. But I don't like the fact that the dogs lick their bums, other dogs' bum, sniff poo etc and then lick you. That is not nice.

re: the right of smokers to smoke.
My personal addiction, particularly after a belly-pattingly satisfying meal in a restaurant full of families, is to add dung to other peoples' drinks and force them to drink it at gunpoint.
So what if it's harmful and scary? It's an addiction - my doctor says so - and its my God-given right to relieve my tension thus.
I'm waiting for dung plasters to be invented...

So glad I live abroad!!!

The British seem to have gone mad with the smoking thing. Pure media hype!!!!

Do you really think that standing next to someone in the open air who is smoking is going to make you come down with lung cancer in the next 5 mins?????!!!!! Or even in a life time????

There is NO evidence to suggest such a thing!!!

I really hate all this anti smoking cr*p. There are other things equally as bad /offensive, however, as usual it all comes down to personal view points. Enough allowences are made for drug addicts blah, blah, poor them let's chuck lots of money at them, give them free drugs at the tax payers' expense, say society is to blame and it isn't their fault. If you're a smoker though......

Report
Caligula · 23/02/2007 10:13

I think smokers should get nicotine patches at the tax payers expense, it's an addiction like any other.

What I can't stand, is people pretending it's OK. It isn't, it's vile, it's unnecessary, it's like spitting or leaving dog poo in the street, one of those quality of life things that we need to stamp out. Yes there are bigger things to worry about than getting a whiff of it at a bus stop, but there are bigger things to worry about than treading in dog poo too. We're allowed to worry about both and bigger things too, aren't we?

Report
crazylazydaisy · 23/02/2007 10:45

Yes, dog poo is AWFUL!
No, you wont get lung cancer from standing next to a smoker for 5 mins!
But the point is - people's lack of care that litle ones are breathing in their expelled and dirty smoke. Is it soooo hard to understand how sad that is that people dont care?

Rhian101 · 23/02/2007 10:57

I inhaled dogpoo once, it was awful but...
No, forgotten my point
